    Got my Y performance June 2021. I already have 16,500 miles on it. It’s a blast to drive. It’s not perfect, but I can say it’s a lot more faster and more practical as a daily driver than my 2017 Gt 350. My range is realistically at about 230 miles doing 75 miles per hour when I travel. That’s the beautiful thing about having those super chargers in abundance.

    I've had my YLR for a week, this is the best vehicle I've ever owned, by a long shot. It's definitely over priced but the market demand is through the roof and it still doesn't have a true competitor. I've been wanting a Tesla ever since I took a test ride 10 years ago, so I'm beyond happy at this point.

    The primary reason it doesn't meet the mileage estimates is one of the reasons you like it, the speed. Efficiency goes out the window once you start driving agressively by speeding, launching off starts,etc. It's too bad because, as mentioned, it is one of the fun things about the car. people have to realize the performance (speed) is equal to sports cars like astin martin, bmw m6, Audi R8, etc. And you don't expect great mileage from sports cars at this level.

    I decided to get the 2023 Model Y long range vehicle and have had it for a couple of weeks now. I really enjoy the hatchback sytle vehicle and it fits all my needs. i am single, retired, and just drive daily around town. I do all my charging at home with the 220 volt outlet that was installed. I don't do long trips or drive on Expressways anymore.
    i haven't found anything wrong with the vehicle so far. The single pedal regen braking driving is very unique and is easy to get used to. As you said in the video, the model Y has allot of speed to it and seems to be quieter than my ICE vehicle. My Long Range vehicle may not be quite as fast as the performance model but is good enough for me. The ride is firm like a sports car where I do feel the bumps, but for me it is not too bad for the low speeds I go around town.
    Thanks for your video and take care.

    Just FYI the frame less doors are considered a high end design feature, typically found only on vehicles such as BMW and Mercedes coupes, Corvettes, Porsches, Lamborghini and Ferraris. The only other SUV's I can think of that also use that design are Audi RS Q8 and Lamborghini Urus; and the only "regular car" that has frameless windows are the early 90's Integras. The manual override will always let you open the door, regardless if the windows go down or not, and if they're stuck, there's usually a button sequence that resets them to the factory position (on the Vette it was something like all the way down, then all the way up and hold).

    EDD: October for mine! Can't wait. I'm coming from a Model 3LR boost. Driving my parents MYLR, I'm a little concerned about the handling/driving dynamics I might lose going to an SUV. Hopefully the performance goodies make up for it a bit.

  • @csilver9625
    @csilver9625 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Rear windows not going all the way down are due to the shape of the car door around the rear wheel well. There isn’t the physical space inside of the door for the window to go all the down inside it (it would hit the angle of the door that makes the part of the wheel well.

    This is the best Model Y video I’ve found. Kudos to you sir! I ordered my model Y performance today, trading in a GMC Canyon Denali. I also went with blue with black interior. After an extended test drive I already had most of the same opinions as you. The UI will get updated I’m sure, hopefully with Waze and Apple Music. I fell in love with the one pedal driving and as a die hard manual transmission guy, I will admit my concern for saving the manuals died after a couple of hours driving a Tesla. As the (allegedly fake but still relevant) Henry Ford quote goes “If I had asked people what they wanted they would have said a faster horse”

    I just purchased the exact same vehicle color and everything. Luckily I got all those options you were talking about excluding of course the 4680s. I love the car as it was an upgrade for me from a 2019 model three that I really enjoyed. Truthfully, the main reason I upgraded is it's a little easier for me to get in and out of. Wondering why your vehicle doesn't have a spoiler?

    • @Chiphtree

      It does now….it took a few weeks to get one because they were on back order. We just put new tires on her @ 35k miles…$1800!

    • @milehighkit4725
      @milehighkit4725 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Chiphtree 1800 wow. It's easy to hammer those tires down quickly if you're not careful! I learned that with my model three. And it had the 19 inch package which was much cheaper than the 21s. My car was actually built on December 16, 2023, and of course, Tesla titles for the year of manufacture, unlike other manufacturers that would already be considering them as the next year. We also have a 2021 model Y performance, and the ride on this one is much improved, and quite a bit quieter on the road. The couple of drawbacks are the parking sensors are missing on the 23 as is the radar that the 2019 had. And one goofy thing I miss, is the bag holders in the front trunk 🙂

    Good video for people approaching e-mobility and Tesla, though you still have to learn a lot about your MYP and the advantages of Teslas incremental way of handling UI.
    Put the range display on percentage instead of miles to start with! It‘s a lot more dependable and you have that on your phone, too.

    A good, honest review. Five years into my Model S ownership, I love still the car. I also find many of the options and features on my MS which are no longer available are trade-offs for the newer tech in the current generation of model offerings, In the case of the Model Y, waiting for the chip, battery, and structural upgrades is worth waiting a year to get, which will likely be the case until Fremont and Austin are on an equal production and configuration footing for the Model Y, and supply meets demand. A second Tesla in the garage is coming, but I can wait until the company gets its supply chain issues fully baked into its model offerings, delivery times, and prices.

    Great vid. I appreciate the realistic review. Just got my first Tesla, MYP 2022. Lots of hype, lots of disappointment, and I a lot of love/hate. If the car improves with updates I could recommend it, but not in the current state.
    I was hoping for a less buggy software experience. Definitely didn’t expect the super bad auto wipers, high beam, cruise control situation. I figured build quality would be decent, but it’s still lacking compared a basic ICE vehicle.

    • @jessepotter365

      Could you expand upon, "buggy software"?

    • @beefuzzy310
      @beefuzzy310 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jessepotter365 Sure:
      Yesterday while using Nav I voiced in a street address. It kept pulling up locations in other cities. After 5 tries, I gave up and typed it in. Boom, address auto filled. Hit okay. Showed my route, zoomed out and it stopped working. Just showed the route and the car, wouldn’t navigate. After stopping and resetting it, Nav worked again. Took a Starbucks side trip. Then back to the main road and I couldn’t hear the Nav. The volume had turned itself all the down. Have had this happen several times.
      It’s fairly cool outside and I try to keep the temp on auto. Due to the glass roof, it still hits 100F when outside is 55F. So AC will pop on. In the last week I have had the AC on with seat heaters at max.
      Most the time my music will auto play Spotify. Couple times a week it will not. I have to go into the menu and change it from slack back to Spotify.
      Back up camera doesn’t always show up. Have to put it park and reverse again. Also, passenger bugged this out by adjusting the radio as I put it in reverse.
      Side cameras don’t always work with turn signals. When they do the color can be crazy.
      Emergency warning system is a pretty terrible. I notice it warning me to stop due to traffic stopping. But it’s really just a car that has already turned off the road. No danger. Definite system lag, makes me question the safety systems response.
      Phone doesn’t always charge on the wireless pad. Sometimes it gets really hot. Very random, never really know what it will do.
      After parking the car, walking away, hearing it lock. I came back 30 min later to find it was still on. It ran the radio and climate the whole time.
      Nav doesn’t always auto resume, have to cancel and restart.
      I turned off auto locks at one point, it took me 5 separate tries before it saved. Kept reverting back. This was over a few days.
      Had the fun holiday, rainbow road and mars modes lock up.
      The bugs generally change after each little update. I got excited last week when auto wipers worked for the first time. But then the stopped again. Meh.
      Those are a few. I have more. Generally a bug every day. Not counting phantom braking, phone as key not working a few times a week, nav taking you to a super chargers that is closed, windows not rolling up when door is closed, app not saving charge setting, cameras being blocked by sun , darkness, condensate. Auto pilot and cruise control don’t always turn off when you press the stalk up. Sometimes cruise control forgets it speed. Car taking an abnormally long time to resume speed after slowing down.
      This is my 2022 MYP. I scheduled a service due to trim pieces starting to separate from the body. I’m also going to ask if they can adjust the hood and trunk, neither are correct. See if I can add a camera calibration to the list.

    • @BuckFush08
      @BuckFush08 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alaaobaidy7074 Personally, I'd like to see better lighting at night. There is only a pretty dim light at the front footwells. How about some mood lighting in this price range?
      The door handles are black, and my Model Y is dark blue. At night, it is sometimes very difficult to find the door handles and open the car.
      These are really minor quibbles. I wish it had heads up display. The ride is definitely on the firm side, especially on rough roads but most of the time, the ride is fine. Wish it had real blind spot monitoring, on the side mirrors, instead of the driver having to look at the screen to see if the lane you want to move into is open.
      However, I love the performance! Never get tired of flooring in when it's safe. Love the airy bright feeling of the interior, especially with the white interior and the massive skylight over head!
      Love the relatively (about 1 or 2 times a month) updates. Everyone has different priorities, but for me, I absolutely love the Model Y!

    1. Orange line in maps regarding traffic means moderate traffic that is somewhat slowing down, Red means heavy traffic going very slow, green means normal traffic that does not slow down at all
    2. Frameless doors are used on every Tesla model and they have been used on the vast majority of sports cars.

Got my 2022 MYP delivered early as well. No car is perfect, but being in tech this car has the best software on the market. Especially with 3rd party software integration I can issue commands from my Apple Watch to the vehicle. The power and agility makes it a blast to drive. It’s very quick and nimble. Great storage and the sound system is ridiculously good. In my opinion it’s the best all around EV on the market and Tesla has the backlog to prove it. Waste your money on the other cheaper EV’s that look like ICE car conversions if you want. They will never have the performance and efficiency of a Tesla and they will never have software as good as Tesla. And the will not have the same residual value that Tesla has for that reason.

    Good review. I have an EV6 GT on order but considering a switch to MYP but this is mainly based on supposedly better range. Now this looks doubtful. Perhaps stick with EV6 GT.

    • @gokaruna
      @gokaruna 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The actual range in the EV6 GT is also going to be less. If you like to drive fast that will drain the battery faster, and the other factor is weather. The other EVs don't go as fast as any Tesla's and so their range estimates are more closer to the stated range. And similarly if you drive the Tesla Performance in the Chill mode you will almost get the stated range. And the Tesla supercharger network when you travel is second to none. Plus the OTA are just amazing. For any other EV manufacturer to catch up with Tesla will take many years. Also the overall energy consumption of Tesla is going to be lower.

    It looks it’s best in this blue body and black wheel combo. I think the roof line is too high which makes it look goofy from certain angles, mainly rear 3/4 view. The camera resolution is poor, looks very grainy. Don’t like the front doors windows too. Also hate there is nothing non-painted to push when you close the doors. Also Tesla not offering Head Up Display for basic driving information is poor. Needs to improve range but hear later they will get BYD powerpacks and range will increase 50%. Paint quality and durability questionable. Would like to see cabin cooling fans installed for parking under intense sun which are solar powered. Price is ridiculously high. However overall it’s still very desirable but Tesla need to do more work to catch-up with major brands for cabin comfort and finish.

    Beware, We collected a new, Shanghai Model Y LR 23rd February 2022. No parcel shelf provided either. Tesla Service, Nottingham say that "Yes, it is harsh to the ear but, it is a characteristic of the car so, there is nothing we are prepared to fix" We rejected the car via Tesla's UK finance partner, Black Horse, as is our right. Tesla told Black Horse the same. Over 2 months later, we can't drive the car without getting headaches. Black Horse are promising to get an automotive engineer to report on the vehicle but, have already admitted that as Tesla say they won't fix the problem, in all probability, Black Horse will just tell us "tough luck". I am a chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 45 years in the motor trade. I have had problems with new vehicles before but, never anything as outrageously bad as this.

    Good info for sure, if you're concerned about the price try $100000 Australian dollars or more,... now that's a deal breaker!

    uh. no teslas are being sold with 4680's yet. You can upgrade to the ryzen chip. I have heard the new battery is in production.....oh wow...what you call gimmicky i think are awesome essential parts of the car! Pick my own horn sound, back up sound and summon sound. and 7 dif farts i can produce from any seat and project outside the car. Yes please! Beach buggy racing is an awesome 2 player racing game that you use the steering wheel and passenger uses a controller. its amazing! im 54 but i think im younger at heart than you..lol You can put the back seats almost completely flat and fit your 4 by8 plywood in there.

    That range is disappointing. Nowhere near the 303 claimed.

    Back windows don’t go all the way down cuz that’s required. It’s a child safety thing

    • @Chiphtree
      @Chiphtree  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So why do almost all other cars have windows that go all the way down?
