Check out MUST HAVE Tesla Model Y accessories in my description. Also, let me know if you would get the Long Range or the Performance and Why? (To my Canadians - Model Y Performance is even cheaper since MAKING this video…now it’s $69,990)
Had 3 M3P (2019-2021-2022), they got slower over time due to less grip of the std tires and the LG battery (EU model), top speed is reduced after 1-2min (going 155mph is legal here on certain roads), power loss below 60% SoC and no power below 30%. Nice power, but the P isnt worth it. Had a 2022 MY LR with the LG and switched now to the Y SR 2023 with BYD blade battery. Same range and better charging than the LR (with the LG battery, we dont get 4680 or Panasonic here), better ride comfort. Much cheaper than the LR and does the same, except power and AWD. LR has no real additional range
The performance model went to 'comfort suspension' last year about the time hardware 4 showed up. I picked mine up in August 2023, and it's been pretty comfortable.
Deciding between the two, by the time I add the optional 20” induction wheels and spoiler, it would cost about the same but without other unique features of the Performance. So I bought a Performance in December WITH a $2,500 inventory reduction discount! So happy with my choice.
Good choice! I actually wish I got the performance instead since the difference is noticeable. But I when I bought LR there was a HUGE price difference between the 2.
I'm honestly ecstatic that I went with a performance over the long range! The sacrificed range isn't an issue at all! Excellent review, as usual, thank you!
Awesome! I’m actually sad I didn’t end up going with the performance - let’s see if I will swap it out. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video, spent extra time editing this one 🙏🏼
Just picked up a 2023 w 12k miles - how many miles approx without playing speed racer? I feel like I’m always charging. No at home yet but superchargers becoming a habit. Ty for info
As a new Tesla owner who tried both before settling on the MYLR 2024, both are nice. The performance is faster. Never really used the brakes with REGEN. I like the better ride, raised position, and thicker sidewalls for the urban day to day grind and occasional country roads. Easier and cheaper tires, non staggered setup, longer range, and lower insurance. Now both come with the headlight upgrade too. Ill admit im over 50. To each his own. I like them both.
Any regrets? I'm test driving Saturday, I'm in your demo , with the same concerns, lower insurance. Not sure if the speed is worth it, I'm coming from a Rav 4 , that is slow as shit.
People forget, the long range is 425 hp and sub 5 seconds to 60 mph. You can't go wrong, both trims are amazing products. I admit, if I did not need the 7 seats for grandkids, I would have chosen the Performance but we love our 2024 MYLR in Quicksilver. Awesome ride and engaging driving experience.
Especially if you are able to grab an inventory discounted MYP! I got mine last September with a $4200 discount and I’m so glad I did! I would recommend you do a side by side test drive because I was certain I should get the LR based on the comments online about the suspension, but after test driving them side by side I actually found the suspension in the performance better. The Long Range felt a lot more wobbly and you lost control taking curves. Just get the performance!
We bought the LR last fall here in BC and qualified for $9000 in rebates. The Performance model did not.....that combined with the cost difference was huge!
If you buy the vehicle under your business, you get full rebates, regardless of price. I’m in BC too, we bought a M3P and put it under our business, got full rebates and write off.
Das Performance-Modell wurde letztes Jahr, etwa zu der Zeit, als Hardware 4 erschien, auf „Komfortfederung“ umgestellt. Ich habe meins im August 2023 abgeholt und es ist ziemlich komfortabel.
Just to add a note, if you paid $2,000 for a boost on your MYLR, than the difference between that car and MYP is not $4,000, but actually $2,000 which makes the argument even stronger for choosing the Performance trim.
@@michaellarsen3601 in this video, it is specifically stated that $2,000 was paid for the boost around the one minute mark. Although it wasn't on the test model but on another MYLR in a previous video.
It’s true but the MYP performance eats tires much faster with no way to rotate them. Insurance and registration are more expensive but I still love my MYP.
Tesla changed its EPA range estimates (in the US) to 310 miles for the MYLR, 279 miles for the MYP and 260 miles for the MYRW. Would you continue to recommend the MYP given the massive range downgrade?

I just bought a new mid year on 2023 Model Y AWD long range with the 20” induction wheels. It’s a Fremont build that has the Matrix lights. The Austin build has the older lights. 😊
I went with the Performance model end of November 2023 after I got a total of nearly 5K off MSRP for an inventory model at a nearby Tesla location. I've recently removed the 21" ubberturbine wheels and installed 18" T Sportline wheels with 235/55r18 Sailun EV range tires. After a recent trip from Sacramento to San Francisco and back driving mostly at 70-74 mph the Tesla energy app indicated 270 wh/mi at the end of the trip. Stock wheels and tires always kept that number well above 300. Car just glides over smaller road imperfections with the 55 wall tires. Got me wondering what kind of range I'll get had I opted for 225/60r18s.
I went with the LR, pick up tomorrow 2/4/24. No discount on the P and LR was $4,900. Would have been a $8,700 difference between lr and p for me. If no discount on lr or $4,900 discount on the p, I would have went p, but $8,700 was too much for me. Nice comparison!
Just took delivery of the long range for the 7 seat configuration to haul the kids. Probably would have gone performance if it had the 7 seat option. However we are loving the long range! Ride quality is much better than my 2020 performance model 3.
I had the performance 3 the tires were awful blow the sidewalls out all the time and they scratched so easy. i never used the brakes.eventually I traded it for the y long range with acceleration boost and the range and the ride quality is so much better.i never liked the chrome decals I always removed those
I see the MYP comes with curb rash on the wheels as a standard option. :) I bought a '24 Long Range 19" Gemini wheels, put turbine black wheel covers on it. All it needs is a $100 spoiler and you won't be able to tell much difference between it and a MYP.
I just bought a performance model Y. I’m coming from a BMW three series that I had for seven years. I’m excited. The design is so cool. I’m picking it up Monday.
I hate that the uber turbine rims aren't mirrored. Can't unsee it. For me the LR is best of both worlds (if you add the RWD in the mix). The bigger tires provide more driving comfort and are a lot less expensive to replace. Also the performance is 6k more where I live. Here's to hoping the Juniper is going to have the new LFP batteries instead of the 2170.

This is a great video thanks for sharing. I'm an older guy in my mid 50's and all that speed is not really necessary for me at this point in my life. Maybe if I was in my 20's-30's I would be all in on Performance, but the Long Range seems sufficient enough for my needs. I'm not even thinking of Environmental aspects of owning an Electric Vehicle; that is the last thing on my mind... I'm all about getting rid of a $350.00 per month Gas Expense, a $400.00 per year Oil Change Expense, along with any other Expense an ICE car can give me (I.E. New Exhaust System, Transmission Work etc etc). The big takeaway for me was the Rotating of the tires. I want to make my tires last longer, so I don't have to keep buying four new tires all the time. I do wish the headlights were the same Matrix Headlamps. That's a bummer.
I’m surprised for a Canadian, he popped up first when I searched reviews for this model. Just not sure why he does his research in USd when he’s Canadian.
The performance model acceleration is a fun trick but I hate changing tires that costs roughly $1.3k twice a year. No thanks. If you want to burn cash then go ahead.
Not many people do a proper suspension test and this is a very big concern coming from my M3LR which is smooth. So thank you for spending time of this area and also getting your wife's input.
If you want comfort then model y long range, if you are younger like myself and want to be one of the fastest cars on the road model y performance... It will keep up with mostly anything on the road, top speed of 155mph where model y long range only goes to 135mph, if you need to ask when and why you need to go those speeds then model y long range is the car for you. Also mine is a 2022 performance it is stiff as rock... And in performance driving around corners and bends at high speeds is great... However on bumps and potholes its atrocious. I did hear the newer performance has softer suspension but not sure how that translates to performance driving. Also there is no protection on 21 inch uberturbines... Any curb will give u curb rash instantly
We just purchased a 24’ Performance Model Y. Was back and forth on Long Range but my wife being awesome wanted the performance. My prediction this channel will be at 50K by this year 😌. Amazinggg video 👏🏻
Let’s make it happen 🚀
I’m surprised for a Canadian, he popped up first when I searched reviews for this model. Just not sure why he does his research in USd when he’s Canadian.
Gonna go see 1 tomorrow 🤞🏽 hopefully I’ll leave with it
Only performance is cool. LR would be cool if it was lower and better wheel design . Much More fun to drive performance for a few more usd
great analysis.
Thanks - glad you found it useful 👌🏼
Totally agree
I can't buy the long range today because they told me it is "on hold" due to "software" issue - for about 1 to 2 months
2024 MYP all the way. However I usually drive in chill mode. 😂🤣
2:17brakes not breaks🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for the spoiler alert 🤣 3:30
The performance model acceleration is a fun trick but I hate changing tires that costs roughly $1.3k twice a year. No thanks. If you want to burn cash then go ahead.
Why do they need to be changed twice a year?
How the hell do you burn tyres that fast?
@@tombeardy4833He's lying 😂
Not many people do a proper suspension test and this is a very big concern coming from my M3LR which is smooth. So thank you for spending time of this area and also getting your wife's input.
I mean a performance car is usually stiff lmao. Maybe people who are not use to sports cars may not like that
I own the 2023 MYP and it's scary fast! When I take someone for a first time ride they are simply blown away...
Help me cure my charging neurosis. How many miles approx do you get on 80%? Sorry newbie…
I’ll save my $4,000 and you could have your second less of acceleration. I’ll put it towards my next set of tires.
Skipped both; got the Porsche
I wish the performance had a 7 seater. :(
If you want comfort then model y long range, if you are younger like myself and want to be one of the fastest cars on the road model y performance...
I went with the long range because I drive back to Nashville my hometown a lot and want the longer range
Makes sense - LR is still a great choice! 👌🏼
bro camera rattlin around and telling us that it's not any smoother
Why do people keep getting curb rash I’m tired of people who have curb rash THATS EXTRA 1inch parking so damn close will not save your car!!!!!!!!
From someone in the car scene, when someone describes a car as “zippy”, I know that car is slow as shit…
They aren't slow. Your car probably is though.
Your hands on the wheel are totally wrong, too high. Also, the way you turn would fail any driving test.
Thanks Teacher! I’ll keep that in mind for my driving test 😂
Pointless comment 😒
Your name is pointless.@@pokeroohardo6539
We just purchased a 24’ Performance Model Y. Was back and forth on Long Range but my wife being awesome wanted the performance.
This is our around town / commute vehicle and I can’t be more excited after this review. We would have gotten the upgraded rims anyway, price difference certainly worthwhile.
Luv the performance. Black on black red calipers, smexy.
Who cares if someone has red calipers, do people actually look at that. what do I care what trim someone else has?

😴
How can you make a comparison video and not inform yourself that long range has matrix to. You can clearly see it of the video LOL
Performance give you less miles
Paying $4,000.00 more just for show? Not me.
I want the performance one but I feel like I need to get long range because it’s more practical 🥲
Shit VS Shit
