Speaking as a writer, that is pretty much a certainty.
Like when you tell them there’s a combo and they can have a large popcorn and large soda for the same price as a large popcorn and medium soda and they think you’re trying to rip them off.
This is like when my sister was trying to bake and we lost the 1/2 measuring cup and I tried to explain to her for 5 minutes that she could just use two scoops of the 1/4 cup. I was 14 and she was 21.
I feel stupid here but why couldn't you use 2 scoops of the 1/4 cup

I thought she was less than 10 years old until the end... that is just sad. Even worse would be if she said you should use 2 scoops of the 1/2 cup to get 1/4 because 2 x 2 = 4.

A guy came in with his bday coupon. Buy one get one of equal or lesser value free. He ordered a smoothie and a large ice cream. I tried explaining he had to get two of the same thing to get one for free, and no amount of words made him understand. It was in clear bold words on the coupon. In the end I gave one for free cause it was busy and he looked about ready to reach over the counter and choke me.
And a woman came in wanting a shake with strawberries, blueberries, and cheesecake ice cream. Seeing it being poured into a cup she said it wasn’t right, it looks different than when it’s just mixed together by hand. So I ask what the problem is. “It’s not...red. It’s too purple.” I confirm she wanted blueberries, she says yes but it’s not right and she doesn’t want it. Even asked if she could taste it first but she refused.
Like oh my fucking god this woman never learned that red+blue=purple? And when blended of course it’ll turn that color?
I just say, "okay, I'll put that in a combo for you so it'll be cheaper" because this is exactly what happens every time and I have so many other things to do. 😂

But in this case, the woman is expecting the free taco to also be chicken, so you couldn't just make it a combo. She would ask about her chicken taco and think you were trying to stiff her.

Its cheaper in general compared to regular price if there is a special, so I say "we have a combo for that today, you get 2 for the price of 1, and you can split the combo. What kind of taco do you each want " Instead of confusing them with the different flavors and the "you can have her extra 'free taco' spiel". Its essentially the same thing as a buy one get one free, but its explained easier. People understand combos better than BOGOs. This way they still pay less than they would have if they bought 2 tacos separately, but I don't confuse them with the prices if they don't already know the math.

i worked in retail and this woman brought in 3 20% off entire purchase coupons and asked me to use all of them. i said they can’t be stacked and she was like “i know, i want 3 different transactions to use up my coupons, you get me?” and i tried to explain for so long that she would just be wasting the two extra coupons, she thought i was so dumb for not understanding but in the end i just did what she wanted 🤷🏻♀️ not worth the explanation or the customer getting angry lol

Our store has fuel points you can accumulate with every purchase to save money on gas. One fuel point for every dollar spent. We had a special with 4X the fuel points on gift card purchases. I had a girl ask me to verify we had that special going on. I confirmed we did, and she asked if she bought 2 girft cards would it be 8X the fuel points.

This reminds me of a moron I dealt with in the early 90s when I was in high school and worked at Arby's. They had a deal, 5 regular roast beef sandwiches for $5.00. I think they were regularly $1.89 each. This guy came in and ordered 4 of them. The charge came to around $8.00. I told him if he buys a fifth, his price would go down to $5.00 plus tax. He said he didn't want five. That made no sense to me, so I told him he could save one, give it away or simply throw it out, he'd be spending less if he got five. The guy went ape shit. His face turned red and he started yelling at me and telling me to stop trying to sell him extra items. I couldn't help but laugh at him and that made him even madder. I gave him what he wanted. He then told me he was going to complain. I told him go ahead, I'm not the genius who paid over 50% more than I had to, for fewer items. Good luck in life, you'll need it.
As far as I know he never complained. That stupidity really stuck with me. To this day, I don't get it.

When I worked at Burger King I had to try to explain to people that when they ordered something like a whopper jr plain or with only mustard and ketchup, they were just wanting a hamburger plain or only m&K, but paying 30 cents more asking for a whopper jr, with none of the stuff that makes it a whopper jr (lettuce, tomato and mayo). After I explained it and they still didn't get it, I'd just give up and charge them for the whopper jr. You want to pay 30 cents more for nothing fine.
@@Logan_Baron It's a mistake of burger king to allow that to happen, that's not the customer's fault. Frankly all of the confusion around deals is just bad design and advertising. If it was clear there would be no confusion and overpaying.

This is the most accurate skit I've ever seen in my life I waited tables for too many years and I experienced this so many times. #2for20
I've overhead customers getting mad that 2 for $20 was more with tax. I'm guessing they never even thought about tipping.
I used to have a similar problem when I worked at a clothing store that has "2 for $$" special. In fact, my MANAGER called me on the carpet because I had rung up a couple dozen $21.30 sales in just over an hour.
"I haven't counted the register yet, but why did you ring this one sale so many times."
"We had the lunch crowd, and there were a lot of people doing the 2 for $20. With tax it's 21.30."
He got really irritated, said "We'll see" and was annoyed at me the next morning and thereafter because...I had done my job and correctly explained what seemed like a discrepancy at first.
Also, no customers, that doesn't mean one is $10. One is $14.99, I don't make the rules.

Dude for me, this sketch was too hilarious for some reason. It just felt so authentic. Especially the chica stepping in to just pay for everything so that she’s able to enjoy her meal in quiet without having to hear these two chicas sprain their brain trying to use their brain to figure out WHO GETS THE FREE TACO!!!!!
This is so real, especially the part where they are surgeons, I've waited on so many MD's that could not decipher the menu properly or make a coherent order, even after multiple visits, it always amazed me!!!

Working in a grocery store many years ago they had a buy one get one sale on bone in ham steaks. It was a weighted product so to give the BOGO sale they would combine the prices of the two and take off half. This lady comes up to me and says "where's my free ham steak on my receipt!" I explained to her the way it works and she got confused. She looked at me and said "where's the free one". I explained it again and even did the math for her on a piece of scrap paper. She got even madder and cursed me out and left the store in a huff. The local veterinarian.
"with the buy one-get one, you can mix and match! So for your free taco, you can order a beef one and give it to her! It'll save y'all a couple bucks :)"

This is genuinely what it feels like trying to teach people who only know their field. I don't know about teaching surgeons basic math, necessarily, but I have some experience with attempting to teach grammar to an engineer and this is entirely on point for that.

Explained to someone I was serving that our restaurant’s lemonade, which was hand squeezed to order, does not entail free refills. He then said “well then we should go somewhere else” in what I believed to be a joking manner. Within 60 seconds, he and his family were out the door. This sketch hit me so hard in the real feels.

This conversation reminds me of my friends and I when we have no sleep for almost 2 days because of a group work and we went out to grab lunch. We gave 1000 to the cashier and she asked if we have 82 or even 2 so she can give us 200 or 120, we stood there trying to understand what she’s explaining.

@@WingedEternitys What I mean is that while being confused isn't anything new, it never used to be something to be proud of, or celebrate. It is often said without any attempt to try to understand what is being said etc., rather as an easy out that seems 'cool'. It shouldn't be a point of pride to be confused!

I went through the same'ish thing, in reverse, with a cashier. She kept telling me to get the combo, and I kept telling her to ring the items individually, because their combo was overpriced. I even told her to do the math - it is cheaper individually - do not ring up the combo. So she rang up the combo... 😎
Long time ago I went to Wendy's I was getting to go, so I didn't want a drink. I had drinks at home. I ordered a sandwich, fries and a side of chili. The cashier said it would be cheaper to add a drink and get the combo. I did quick math and figured out that a sandwich and fries alone was 20 cents less than the combo with a drink. I told her that. "It's only 20 cents. That's cheap for a drink". I explained that it is cheap for a drink, but I don't want a drink. So it would be a waste. I just wanted sandwich, fries and a chili. She said "You can get a frosty with the combo instead of the drink". I explained again that I don't want a frosty, don't want the combo, I just want the sandwich, fries and a chili. "You CAN'T replace the drink with a chili on the combo". I had to explain again that I don't want to replace the drink on the combo with a chili, I don't want a combo at all. By this point the manager had noticed the line hold up and came over to see what the problem was. The cashier told him "He wants to replace the drink in the combo with a chili". Manager "we can't do that, you could get a frosty instead though". So I start over "I don't want a combo at all. I just want a sandwich, fries and a chili". Manager "If you get the combo it's cheaper".
