Thank you so much!!! My car was hit last year and I mentioned this to the shop I took it to. The guy said that it might be because the sunroof was blocked, but never told me how to fix it if it happened again. You are a lifesaver!!

2016 Rav4 driver's side floorboard was soaked. I thought it was my windshield so I resealed it. That didn't work! I was going to take it a part next. I'm so happy I came across this video before I did that! You're a lifesaver if this works!

2016 rav4. Same issue wet passenger side. Sun roof drain and ac/condenser unclogged and i'm still getting water. Any other suggestion where the water is coming in?

Big help. Thanks!!! I had a large puddle of water stuck in the sunroof well that would not drain. I found those 2 holes and yes they were plugged, both of them, most likely from pollen. I found an old laptop power cord, cut off the ends and slowly threaded it down the drain hole reopening it back up. Be very careful to hold onto the end because if the end falls into the hole you may never get it back out. God bless.

This really helped me out with my Dad's 2005 Rav 4. He had the same issue but it was on the passenger side where the drain was clogged. Thanks!!!

Thanks for the info - about to fix it myself on my 2015 RAV. Found the entire driver's floorboard soaked and noticed water near the driver's sun visor and down the side about the side airbag. To deal with the moisture issue I've got one of those hanging DampRid bags from the home improvement store. Hopefully, it will ensure no mold or smells.

Toyota issued a technical service bulletin April 2023. toyota T-SB-0016-23. It’s only for 2019-2022 cars but from my research it’s earlier models too. Mine is a 2014 and we’ve taken it in 3 times to have it cleaned and repaired. The last time they said it was just like a maintenance service I would need to get it done early at 500$ each time. Seems like this a manufacture problem and should be recalled.

Could be your roof rack and seals underneath.

How did you solve the problem I have the same car and it's not the sunroof

    • @max.b92

I had a small leak around the top of the windshield where they used the sealant to bond it to the body. It was a tiny pinhole in the sealant but enough to let water in. The windshield was previously changed, and it was mounted a quarter inch too low. I had a windshield company ad sealant to the leaking area to try a cheap fix but it did not work, so ended up removing the windshield, adding new sealant all around and remounting it in the proper spot. This has resolved the issue since. I am the one who found the leak by removing the front portion of the headliner and pouring a water bottle around the top of the windshield and checking for leaks on the inside of the windshield.

my 2019 rav4 adventure has $4k of electrical damage due to water leaks & they blamed it on me not cleaning the sunroof which I don't even use. And my car is garaged indoors at home & work. I am so frustrated with Toyota, had been a loyal customer but now their quality is non-existent.

It’s a shame that this is such an issue for so many people. Yet there is no company wide fix or assistance in the repair. Or just make the customer aware of issues like this.

I'm definitely going to try clean up that seal. My case was far more extreme. This is how I fixed it:
