I'm a mechanic and I just addressed the sunroof leak on my 04' Exploder after looking at your video to find the tube exit location. So I thought I'd post some tips based on my repair solution. OK...These sunroofs usually leak for one of a few reasons, clogged drain tube (at the top or bottom), drain tube disconnect (under the headliner you have to pull sun visor off to see or get to that hose connection (hint use gasket maker and a small zip tie to secure the tube to the plastic drain corner) if you find yours popped off like mine did on the drivers side. Mine leaked from bad tar sealant AND a popped off drain tube... So... now for the most common reason.... THE MOST COMMON reason these leak is the black "tar" sealant Ford used on the plastic drain corners of the sunroof pan near the windshield ! The tar sealer shrinks or melts over time and stops working... First scrape off any excess tar you see, then, using a rag soaked with brake cleaner...wipe off the tar and any dirt you will see near the sealing surfaces of the plastic corners (important or your new sealer wont adhere to the surfaces!). After its clean, just re-apply a new sealant of your choice. I used the thick Permatex Ultra Black and it worked perfectly on the drain junctions. Just smooth the sealer with your finger and always think like a rain drop...don't allow the sealant to pile up or cause a dam effect. Your sunroof will no longer leak.
The first video and the first text that addresses the real issue of leaky sunroofs. And only a very few know the problem of those tiny gaps that allow ware coming in. This is a common problem in VW since many version's including vw 7 and seat and and and. Most think its the pipe... but no its exactly those tiny gaps
Good info to know... I have the same issue and was about to inspect my drain tube ends. NOTE: There is a silicone sealer meant for Windshields...it is a form of gasket maker that "flows" before it sets. Permatex makes it called "Windshield and Glass Sealer" flowable silicone. I use the stuff for all sorts of applications. Might have to give it a shot.
I have never had any problems major problems on all the cars I have had with a sunroof on one the drain tube was blocked I unblocked It and it was fine and all the cars I have had since I pour warm soapy water in regularly to keep the drain tubes clean never had a problem
I have a leak that’s coming through my passenger side on the floor and the front roof light. 2 Ford Dealerships could not find the cause. Thank you this gives us something to try.
Check the seal around the sun roof...if its looking like its old and dry-rotted then that's probably your Issue. One thing I have found that dealerships could care less about older autos. They will tell you anything to keep you away. Best to find a private/independent mechanic who will actually "try to fix things" Just has been my experience for 45 years. Hope you get it fixed
Explorer, expedition, GM(Saturn) pretty much every car with a sunroof. I have a 2003 Saturn ion and I have the exact same issue. Discovered it Sunday when I washed the car and now we are having torrential rain and it’s under a carport and still getting water on it (had a lot of wind to) the drain was unplugged (that fixes the soaking wet floor board) this right here you’re on to something
Thanks for posting this. A sunroof leak almost cost me my 2005 navigator. Water leaks from the passenger top corner like yours and runs right into my fuse/relay center in the passenger kick panel. Result - it shorted out and caught on fire!!!! Major damage.
Got the harnesses all repaired and the fuse box replaced - truck is running again but just fighting this leak. Cleared the drains today but everything is soaked from last nights rain. Glad I know what the next step is of drains aren't enough.
You'll have to put a outside seal on. Ford sell them. It's the seal that goes around the sunroof its self on the outside. Its suppose to seal all of the water from getting in. That's my next project. Depending what your SUV IS...You'll have to look up the part number. Mine is really weather and has lost it elasticity. - (helping my peeps)!
As i thank you for the video and the others reply, i have an 04 navigator, same issue, my fuse box is destroyed and i have a new one on the way, im hoping u can save the harness..
I like your videos! GM uses a Non-Hardening Black RTV to seal the oil and differential pans. It stays flexible for years, cleans up easily. It would be pushed out of the way of the rolling wheel of the sunroof. its the OEM part number for the diesel 6.2 & 7.4L engines used in the Hummv. It should help without tape or "normal" fully hardening RTVes that could block or damage the tracks. I wish you the best!
Seals are a most overlooked part of car maintenance. In order to get life long service from them, they must be cleaned and conditioned, I don't care who manufactured it. Two things these videos have taught me is to check my drain tubes regularly and remind me of the importance of keeping those seals conditioned. I must admit that I have overlooked my sunroof seals, but my car is only two years old so now is a good time to start. I will start with my next cleaning which already takes me 3 or 4 hours, ugh.
Thanks for posting the find as it will save me from a disassemble to figure it out and I can try sealing it without the disassembly... Looks like Ford should have made the entire pan as a single molded unit....IMHO
Look VW makes the same design mistake since over 20 years with all the partner car brands seat etc. I can't believe they produce such shitty quality and poor design. Tgey talk about German quality. I am disappointed of Volkswagen. I have a car built in 2015 vw 7 golf and it hss exactly this issue. And also newer cars have thid problem. I'm done with VW. Shall they close their plants in Germany . I don't care anymore. A company which doesn't even sort out such a simple problem in two decades is not worth of talking about quality. Many go like made in Germany. They missuse the country post world war quality for modern rubbish
Thanks for that ! My 2006 Navigator has a bad leak that's getting worse. I will tape off my sunroof and see if that stops it and then if it does, follow your suggestion. Good advise.Already spent $1200.++ in a body shop ...... no more!!! Thanks for showing this, Wilf
Tape is not a good sealant. I would clean all around the sunroof and metal body and then apply black rtv silicone all the way around. Permanently seal it up. Then unplug the switch.
After watching this (thank you) I removed the handles and visors on my Supercrew, but when I tried to open my sunroof, nothing happens. There are balls of rust at the front of it, where I can fit a finger. My console with the sunroof buttons and outside temp on the roof goes crazy, but sunroof buttons are dead. The rear grab handles and rear window also started leaking this week. I don't have this amount of time to waste on this rust bucket. I'm afraid there may be water damage in the sunroof controls, so will have to take that apart too. It would have been nice if Ford would have used a tube of sealer on each vehicle, instead of practically none!! All I could do was put silicone around the screws and put them back in until I figure out how to open the sunroof, but then I'm afraid it won't close!
Out of all the videos on youtube on this problem you have demonstrated and explained it the best.Nobody besides you have shown the water leaking from the channel they have only shown a clog drain.I was puzzled as to why after clearing my drain i still have a leakage thank you very mush.
For me the issue was that that the drain hose (near the floor end of the cabin) was not inserted into the hole that lets out water outside. It was just left against the floor liner. So once the drain fills up it overflowed. I just reinserted it into the correct hole and It works good. Poor factory workmanship....
On my 2002 Honda Accord both front hoses had shrunk and were about 4" too short to seat in the drain fittings so they were draining into the floor pan. I had to pull the headliner and extend both hoses with hose barbs and spring clamps to get them working again. The driver's side was easy but the passenger's side was extremely difficult to reach. I opted not to attempt to replace the hoses completely as they were not cracked and I didn't want to risk the old one and new one separating when trying to pull the replacement hose in through the A pillar.
Vehicle used for documentary: 2003 Chevy Trailblazer LT (other vehicles may have slight difference's) Symptoms: loud snap or bang while opening or closing sunroof unable to close or open sun roof How to prevent: clean and grease track regularly, grease that came with repair kit looked like axle grease
I have this issue in my 98 explorer and it suuuucks. especially with all this summer rain in New Orleans...😑 so you are RIGHT about the deep south lol! but thanks for making this video because i just keep bowls and towls in my car lol so its nice to see your discovery.
Thanks for sharing, I hope you were successful in repairing your truck. WTF! I just learned my truck may have clogged drain tubes or a leak in the rear cab brake light. I only recently discovered last week that my floorboard behind the driver's seat is damp: I thought I either left my door ajar or the seals in the door frame or rear window was leaking. I was conversing with the guys at O'Reilly's and one guy inquired if I had a sunroof - yeah I do have a sunroof! It is making sense to me because I started having a sagging headliner 2 to 3 years ago. I thought it was Florida humidity, but Geez Louise, I pray that the inside of my cab roof isn't rusting. Last night I checked my sunroof and I noticed the plastic parts are cracked - I hope I can fix my water leak problem.
My mother's 2004 Explorer Eddie Bauer V6 4000 sunroof was leaking in February 2013 and she got it fixed numerous times, but the repair shop did a subpar job whenever it leaks and she got the entire sunroof epoxied. Back in 2017, my mom told me that her next vehicle will NOT have a sunroof/panoramic roof option. Now my mother drives an former renal 2017 Ford Edge Titanium 2.0T EcoBoost without the panoramic roof option and some automakers need to have a sunroof delete option if it's part of an option package.
RellyOhBoy they're only pain in the asses when people or should I say retard don't take care of them cleaning and re lubricating the tracks will help them last forever.
I have same problem in 2000 4Runner and a 2000 Land Rover Discovery 2. Been trying to fix them for a year. It’s a pain to get the headliners out to troubleshoot.
If the sunroof seal is leaking bad enough for that much water to get to that crack where it makes up then it's just time for the sunroof seal to be replaced having the same problem with my Jeep Commander I have four drains in my Jeep Commander and it's just time for the sunroof seal to be replaced because water is coming in so fast around the seal that it's not supposed to put all that much in the trough to even find its way in the car hope this helps
You could see that where the two channels joined it needs some good sealant I have a 2001 and 05 no problem with my 2001 but I might have to do it to the 05
I have a 2001 expedition when it rains I have a leak on the driver side up by the corner of the windshield and I don't have a sunroof but when it leaks it shorts out all of my fuses and recently my transmission started shifting weird I was wondering if there is a fuse that might go to the transmission?
I have 04 Ford Expedition. My sunroof is not closing completely. It will close, the roof does not raise to close up. What can I do or need to do, to make it shut. It seems like there are shocks or something to raise it up… IDK. Can you help me on this?
My 1990 Nissan Sentra SER never have this problem with the factory power sunroof, so is my 2002 Acura MDX, they both are import and old cars bought new, However my recently purchased used 2010 Chevy Tahoe has the same problem as yours and before i came up with the solution, sunroof need to be taped off with masking tape. I don't think i have enough confident to fix it.
When the drain line is very clog, the best thing is unplug out the line ,used a water pressure, a will drain out. The what up dis. Was very clog. The was my best thing I did. Plus clean the cover plastic, is located by the front tired. A will stop your leaks. A will drain both lines hose.
Great video thanks so much for sharing this information. I have a 2013 Ford Taurus that just started leaking on the driver's side. I'm bringing it to my mechanics tomorrow and have my fingers crossed that it's something simple. I wish I would have watched your video first. Thanks for the information that way I can ask him if it's just a clogged drain causing it. I'm not very good at fixing cars but I did look and couldn't see any ripped casket or rubber. Had no idea about the drainage thing until I watched this video. At least now I'll be able to ask questions. Thanks again and I definitely subscribed to your channel.
You would be surprised, so mechanics still don't know where the water is coming from.this video is a diamond value for many car brands. Including vw sear etc. Its crazy that only a few know the exact location
Those surfaces don't look like they are mated properly.. I just did a repair with this exact sunroof not long ago on an 07 Lincoln MK LT and the mating surfaces were nice and flush. This almost looks like its been disassembled before likely to replace the plastic bits in the rails and wasn't reassembled properly like making sure the butyl is smeared back out smooth/replaced and the two surfaces are flush before pop riveting (Speaking of which the rivet near the leak looks suspiciously loose, it does not seem to have been cranked down nice and tight till it popped) I know this is an old video and likely suggested to me because I've looked up similar content recently but just thought I would point this out.
I have a 05 explorer. When it rains heavy; I get a leak at thr overhead console by the dome light. Brought it back to where I bought it and guy flushed the drain tubes. It still does it. Contemplating my next plan of attack. Might go this route. Do you have any suggestions?
😂 this problem effects all Ford's with a sunroof. They used the same vendor for many years and they worked around their SAME design for all models.. 1 thing you can count on is weather stripping goes bad for all brands. Don't buy cars with sunroofs. Problem fixed.
I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 ltz and my sunroof is leaking when we have a bad rain storm. This may be the issue I’m having and I notice my weather seal is bad also.
I am having the same issue on my 2010 Nissan Altima, after checking many things the obvious being the drain tubes I found my leak! My issue is within the track of the sunroof, after partially removing the headliner I noticed a small fraction crack in the rail were a plastic piece is inserted and after placing my finger over the crack I seen no light from underneath, I will be placing some RTV sealant on this area and leak be gone!
Thanks for the video. Some plastic clips broke in my 04 expy and since i hardly ever drive the thing i got it into the closed position and thought all was well, and it was, for a while. My driver's side started leaking down the A pillar. It's likely the drain tube as it happened before and it was the drain tube clogged up. The 04 has a smaller drain outlet i believe. Anyway, i can't open my sunroof so i'm gonna say "fuck it" and put some heavy duty HVAC tape over a layer of silicone and just seal the entire sunroof. After looking this up I have found that Ford has made GARBAGE sunroofs for well over a decade! Not cool. Great truck but damn, i wish it never even came with a sunroof! I never even used it and when i did it cracked the plastic piece that attached to the rails...... Damn you ford!!! haha. Thanks for the video, again. Much appreciated
Josh okay Josh just to let you know that is the typical answer to a uneducated half-wit mechanic I have had the same sunroof in my vehicle for over 21 years every year I clean the tracks Andre lubricate with dry lube which is a lubrication that will not attract dirt and I have never had a problem the problem is people don't know how to take care of things it's just like a transmission people have problems go to the transmission shop and the transmission shop says you need a complete rebuild transmission and then the asshole who owns the car says oh these cars suck and they make bad Transmissions and then the transmission shop acts when was the last time they changed the fluid and the answer was never, I'll fucking defective and stupid can you be
@@willsrestorations If you are half as smart as you think you are why don't tell us where in the the service manual it says to service the sun roof and why the dealer doesn't tell one to maintain it as is common knowledge for a transmission............oh yeah it doesn't, does it ........oh ...guess you're the the dumb f..k.
This looks like a inalfa sunroof correct ? Couldn’t seem to find any videos on TH-cam with that company brand but mines leaks right where yours is leaking from
you shouldn't b able to shut the sunshade with the sunroof glass open.that indicates your drain trough for the rear section of glass is gone or jambed up in the back, causing the water to come in and lay on the sunshade then the water travels to the front under the tracks.and your pouring water in the tracks, not supposed to pour water there.just the far outside channel.and a good seal is very important.glass adjustment helps out a lot
DING DING DING. Winner. This is the correct answer. I posted before I saw this. You are correct, it's a common problem. Replace the rear trough and guides to fix it. And remember to fish out the old trough from the back of the headliner.
Ur msg is very interesting. I read the whole story through . I have a vw 7 golf variant with sunroof. Exact same area gap where water gently goes through. I think there is sealant missing. Flex sealant.. no idea really something like a chewing gun in consistency. Im not sure... water is going through sunroof in general. And its normal and designed for that. But i saw that water goes along the inner line. I guess like tge rail where the glass is going along. But it also looks like a tiby drain for tiby water amounts. But in heavy rain after 5h there is just to much water. That water goes into the second chamber were the windthing is placed during closed sunroof. During heavy rain water summs up. Usually i guess it should flow into the outer chamber that actually is made for the rainwater. Bit before it gets there the level to get over is higher than the level of the gap, cauding the water going the lower level abd then that's the point where it gets into the car at the exact same area. I don't know i think they forgot to seal with this chewing gum looking like sealant. And I read in many different Web pages know that tge real cause is the rear Glas plate, that it isn't aligned properly as u say.since water shouldn't even get into the inner wind thing chamber. I don't know. I never had a sunroof before.but i see thst the symptoms are everywhere pretty similar but this video got to the exact point where water enters
So i have an 09 Malibu and i just found a sunroof leak. The drain lines work and arnt clogged but they also arnt being used. The area under the track the sunroof runs on is where the water is supposed to run to, to enter the drain line and exit the car correctly, the problem is almost no water makes it to the entrance of the drain line when i pour it directly onto the tracks of the sunroof. And instead seeps through and makes it to the headliner and exits through the lights in the cabin that are close to the rearview mirror, and then the rest of the leak runs down the inside of my headliner, into the inside of the shell piece that connects the headliner to the dash, through the dash and out the bottom directly under the dash and where the drainline would usally exit the car. This also seems like a poor design problem cause theres nothing that looks like it should be guiding the water into the drainline on the sunroof itself, even tho water would hit all exposed parts of an open sunroof, the only part that it can drain in is the lowest part, which seems like water would roll to the drainline but the angle of the car doesnt seem to allow that or theres holes in there that it falls through before it gets to the drainline and just goes straight to the headliner. I guess my question is, where should i attempt to put sealant or should i see if its missing seals or how should i attempt approaching this situation, being its not just replacing something, but more than likely adding something thats never been there before.
these leaks in vehicles is frustrating to troubleshoot.so is the dealerships . id like to add hoses to the Sunroof drains, bring it to a dealership and tell them to Blow on these hose!!!🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
Running into the same issue with my 2012 ford explorer that I purchased used about a month ago. The liftgate was also leaking in the standard spot that everyone seems to have issues with (lift gate hinge). I sealed that and no longer have any issues with leaking in the rear of the vehicle. I am, unfortunately still having issues with water coming in from the area of the dome light. Seeing how so may people have this issue and the complexity of trying to repair it...I was thinking just sealing the whole damn sunroof! Think about it. Opening the sunroof doesn't really have any benefits. As long as the shade slide functions then I think that's good enough. Any thoughts on how to seal a sunroof? And wether or not it's a good idea long term.
Okay, this is a misdiagnosis. The problem with this vehicle is, the rear sunroof trough is missing. I'd bet it's back up inside the rear of the headliner. This was a common issue with Expeditions and F-150's of this era. It's easy to tell, too: You are closing the shade with the sunroof open. It's not supposed to close when the glass is open. If you open the sunroof glass with everything including the shade shut, the shade opens with the glass. What moves the shade back is the rear trough. When the rear trough comes loose, it can let the shade move freely. So what's wrong with this one is, the rear trough is not in place with the glass shut, and it's letting water into places that it wouldn't normally be, because where you poured water is NEVER supposed to be wet....so sealing the places you said you were going to seal isn't going to work. It might be a bandaid, but it's not the correct fix. The correct fix is to replace the rear trough and both guides. And make sure the drains flow WELL. Not just "flow at all". They should "slurp" when you test them. If not, they aren't flowing well enough
The main seal on the class sunroof was the correct fix on mine. It does not leak anymore. Also the rear drains were ok. I tested them also they were not clogged. Still the worst sunroof system ever made.
@@FixingWithPassion Glad you think it fixed it. I have my doubts, but occasionally they do fix leaks. Doesn't change the fact that the sunroof shade is not supposed to close with the glass open. Only way that can happen is if the trough is missing. I would be checking that. And I never said anything about the rear drains, but good that they flow. If you think this is the worst sunroof system, I have news for you: It isn't. I've seen many that are worse than this, believe it or not.
I agree either that or put a new seal on it so less water gets in. It could also be the actual sunroof glass leaking in the corners. The sunroof glass has a bead of urethane on it and there could be a crack in the urethane causing a leak down the A pillar
@@lakeerieautomotive934 That's true. It's a very rare occurrence, but can happen. On his, the greasy part where he poured water should NEVER see water. Ever. If it is, something else is wrong. And on his, something else IS wrong, because that shade should not close with the glass open...if the rear trough is in place, it holds the shade open and you can NOT close it until you close the glass. If it does close, means the rear trough has come off, which WAS an issue with these models. So putting a new seal probably did make a tighter seal and stopped most of the leak....for awhile. But it's not "fixed" because it's missing the rear trough...which is probably stuck in the back of the headliner.
Hmm interesting. I recreantly purchased this 2000 EB Expedition 4x4. The previous owner didn't say anything about leaks in the vehicle but I saw signs of it (and odor). I was not worried as I am very handy trouble shouting vehicle issues. I am still in the research phase after dropping the headliner and seeing all the moisture everywhere (the drains are working fine). The first time I fully rolled back the sun roof I noticed that metal rear dam was sitting loose, at an angle, on top of the sunshade. I easily removed it for the time being, thinking it was not that important but maybe it is.
Yes...but could have just....a slight blockage only to back up during a heavy rain opposed to a normal rain. Best to make sure there 100% free of dirt etc.
Thanks for the great video, and showing us an often unrecognized problem with these sun and moon roofs. Did anyone try leaving this type of vehicle in the hot sun long enough to dry that area completely, and then cleaning the area with denatured alcohol, 95% isopropyl alcohol or acetone, letting it dry for a few minutes, then resealing it with silicone, using either a syringe and/or a palette knife to get the sealant under the track and in all the places it needed to go. If you drilled out the rivet on this type of setup, you might get enough slack to get the sealant under there; replacing a rivet is simple. Use painter's to mask the track and other areas that don't need sealant; helps keep from making a mess.
I got a 2001 Ford focus.. would anybody happen to know why one of my drain tubes has a screw in it.. I had a leak watched a few videos my right side tube is clogged so I moved to clean it out I went to go look at the left side and there's a screw in the drainage hole. Is this common?
Do you know how to repair a roof leak on a 1997 F150 at the third high brake light? I've tried everything including replacing the brake light and it still leaks. Very frustrating especially during leaky weather.
Had similar thing on mine but wasn't the brake light was rear window seal leaking had to take out rear glass and clean surface and reseal with butyl tape
I've got the same problem and I live on the Oregon cost so it's kinda like driving a leaky submarine! Did you end up replacing the seal or just squirting some silicone in the crack? If you went with the seal can you give us the info on how to find one?
For now...I just used some duct tape on the top of the sunroof for now to keep the water out. I found a actual outside seal to fix the issue. The seal that goes around the sunroof its self is weak and is letting way to much water coming in....a little to much for the sunroof tray to handle. The seal is $100 though ;( It should take are of the issue.
Maybe the rubber shrinks as it gets old, it's worth a try. Duct tape has slowed down the torrent to a trickle... but I still need to wear a raincoat in the car. Thanks for the info.
These CEO's need to have the water torture applied to them for ever releasing such a poorly engineered item. When it is not leaking the flimsy plastic is breaking merely from time. Pure garbage at an extremely high price. Won't bother the executives and idiot engineers who all drive European cars. They should be required to take back at full market value all their cars with sun roofs. Sure encourages mold and mildew. You are dead on right that the only fix is pulling the entire sun roof and replacing and resealing the entire unit.
Yes. I am so possed bexauof this shit design that goes on now over two decades. That i don't by a VW anymore. Sad but im done. I don't care of Volkswagen shutts the plants in Germany down. Such a poor engineering hasn't deserved a made in Germany. To me it seems they use for ecery shit made in Germany just to grab the money snd not providing the old good post WWII quality. Germany used to produce really good stuff. But know it's becoming ridiculous.
Thanks for the info!!
You are amazing. Thank you for kindly spending the time to help others with the common problem. Thank you very much!
Thanks brother!

Do u mean the seal like the rubber band or the chewing gum looking like glue , that sealant which avoids water coming through tiny gaps

Thank you, I cleaned out my drain tubes next rain it dumped on me and the same area was soaked! So baffled gonna check it out.

I must admit that I have overlooked my sunroof seals, but my car is only two years old so now is a good time to start. I will start with my next cleaning which already takes me 3 or 4 hours, ugh.
Word!!
Great video and explanation - Thank You (another demonstration of FORD's superior engineering design).
Right!
Thanks for posting the find as it will save me from a disassemble to figure it out and I can try sealing it without the disassembly...
Looks like Ford should have made the entire pan as a single molded unit....IMHO
Yea true!
@@FixingWithPassion saw your wire/compressed air trick video .... Nice thanks👍👌
Thank you SO much! I have this very same problem in my 2004 Sport Trac. I really appreciate the info.
I taped mine off and it still leaks
Nice!
Out of all the videos on youtube on this problem you have demonstrated and explained it the best.Nobody besides you have shown the water leaking from the channel they have only shown a clog drain.I was puzzled as to why after clearing my drain i still have a leakage thank you very mush.
;D
Yes!
For me the issue was that that the drain hose (near the floor end of the cabin) was not inserted into the hole that lets out water outside. It was just left against the floor liner. So once the drain fills up it overflowed. I just reinserted it into the correct hole and It works good. Poor factory workmanship....
That's exactly what happened to my Ford fiesta. From factory the hose was not connected
Vehicle used for documentary: 2003 Chevy Trailblazer LT (other vehicles may have slight difference's)

A new seal fixed my issue (seal around the sunroof window) There should be absolutely no leakage around the sunroof. Ford told me this.
@@FixingWithPassion do you have a link or some pointers. Looks like one hell of a job.
The sealant for sunroofs is butyl caulk
Did you try flex seal?
My mother's 2004 Explorer Eddie Bauer V6 4000 sunroof was leaking in February 2013 and she got it fixed numerous times, but the repair shop did a subpar job whenever it leaks and she got the entire sunroof epoxied. Back in 2017, my mom told me that her next vehicle will NOT have a sunroof/panoramic roof option. Now my mother drives an former renal 2017 Ford Edge Titanium 2.0T EcoBoost without the panoramic roof option and some automakers need to have a sunroof delete option if it's part of an option package.

The Takeaway: Sunroofs are a pain in the ass.
O wow!
Thank you that makes sense on top. But the seal is extremely important as add on
Looks like an ideal application for Flexseal.
Funny you should mention that, because that's what I used! Still waiting for it to cure though.
Wow I have to check that because I was thinking I have a disconnected drain hose.
You could see that where the two channels joined it needs some good sealant I have a 2001 and 05 no problem with my 2001 but I might have to do it to the 05

When the drain line is very clog, the best thing is unplug out the line ,used a water pressure, a will drain out. The what up dis. Was very clog. The was my best thing I did. Plus clean the cover plastic, is located by the front tired. A will stop your leaks. A will drain both lines hose.
Would it be the same thing if mine is soaked in the floor? The headliner is water damaged and the floor in the passenger side front is also

I have a 2005 Explorer XLT that the headliner leaks, up in the top passenger side, abv & around the corner of the windshield. Any advice?!
Those surfaces don't look like they are mated properly.. I just did a repair with this exact sunroof not long ago on an 07 Lincoln MK LT and the mating surfaces were nice and flush. This almost looks like its been disassembled before likely to replace the plastic bits in the rails and wasn't reassembled properly like making sure the butyl is smeared back out smooth/replaced and the two surfaces are flush before pop riveting (Speaking of which the rivet near the leak looks suspiciously loose, it does not seem to have been cranked down nice and tight till it popped)
I know this is an old video and likely suggested to me because I've looked up similar content recently but just thought I would point this out.
Yea you are probably right...Hope the newer versions works...or just don't get one with a sunroof...lol That will be me ;)
Excellent hint thanks. You are right this adds up
I have this same exact issue with my 05 pont. g6 with 4 panel moon roof, what a pain.
there's 2 areas on Lincoln Navigators and Ford Expeditions sun roof and windshield defects
I have a 05 explorer. When it rains heavy; I get a leak at thr overhead console by the dome light. Brought it back to where I bought it and guy flushed the drain tubes. It still does it. Contemplating my next plan of attack. Might go this route. Do you have any suggestions?
Check the big seal around roof.
What's the name of the part that's hanging? Do you know by any chance?
eventually what happens the water goes above the windshield and will create corrosion where the windshield seals to the body.
😂 this problem effects all Ford's with a sunroof. They used the same vendor for many years and they worked around their SAME design for all models.. 1
thing you can count on is weather stripping goes bad for all brands. Don't buy cars with sunroofs. Problem fixed.

Edward Wedding did that work for you, I have a 2010 Altima coupe and the back left is leaking from the back of the track.
What is RTV sealant
i like how he keep pouring water in lol

Did you check the glass sealing the roof
Can I make use of epoxy seal resin to fix the seal?
Yea wish I never had either...
Thanks!
I never had a sunroof before.but i see thst the symptoms are everywhere pretty similar but this video got to the exact point where water enters
try a tube of flexible silicon
Odd, just yesterday I saw my suburban i had bought three days ago was leaking water in same spot. is TH-cam listening in?
Don’t use silicone: use DuPont 3200 marine=grade caulk:. Maybe try aluminum tape first:
Good Idea!
I used industrial tape worked great 👍
So i have an 09 Malibu and i just found a sunroof leak.
Exactly the problem I'm having with my Alfa 147 model car.

these leaks in vehicles is frustrating to troubleshoot.so is the dealerships . id like to add hoses to the Sunroof drains, bring it to a dealership and tell them to Blow on these hose!!!🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
Thank you. I may have the same problem in my Mark LT
Butyl liquid rubber will fix that.
So if the water isn't going down the drain holes, does that mean they are clogged? And that it's not some leak somewhere else!
Yes...but could have just....a slight blockage only to back up during a heavy rain opposed to a normal rain. Best to make sure there 100% free of dirt etc.

Holy shit! What a headache
Nice Question!

Flex seal it.
When my car is parked pointed up hill or on level ground it leaks. Downhill, no leaks. Thinking that you might be onto something here.
Yes because cars are lower in the front half due to wind resistance design. Ur right.
And water goes down faster to front than rear because of this. Had the same situation
What you show is normal, water is to leak in tray . around the edges of glass.
You should not use silicone.use drip/ check or urethane sealer.
