Loving the progress so far. I'll leave some ideas to fill the space on this stage: a training ground near the knight's house; some chopped trees near the lumberjack, not too close, even him appreciates shade (maybe add some stacks of logs); instead of putting fields near the coast i would go for some low bushes and stuff, I live near the sea and those are common, make some sort of vegetation gradient until the first road, then go with the fields; maybe try some mushrooms or similar near the nature person, I imagined him as a gatherer. Keep up!
Love the ideas! I never would of thought of a training ground... Having wooden stumps and carved dolls that you can attack and they show the damage you inflict and swing from side to side.. argh I love it. Will definitely be adding the training ground, along with some of your vegetation ideas :)
I'll just throw a bunch of words here for ideas and inspiration for the areas that you are unsure what to do with . Hunting grounds, ruins, questing, relic, old bear, boss, spider nest, treasure chest, cave, aqueduct, tribe, church, meadow, bog, resource, pottery, archery, herd, fields, tunnel, hermit. Hopefully those words help boost your inspiration. :-D Looks like a cool game and i really like the art style, good job.
Since you have a bunch of ideas I'll stick to these two, Relic and Treasure Chest. There will be collectables and quests that reward exploring the world along with lots of hidden items you can find.
Julian, I love it. I wonder if you can start small like you have, but then a group of people come to the chain of islands with very different consciousness. They don't use weapons and instead use reason. They live by principles that support life, they use a currency that's based on time, they live by a different calendar, and more. But everything they do "makes sense". Makes sense for regeneration and instead of fighting with weapons, the people on the island become interested in designing say, maglev vehicles and exploring the new medicine which finds ways of opening our "DNA" and enable us to cure any diseases or injuries we get. Lots more but I'd love to see a sort of example of real life with regenerative principles be made into a game, if not this one, perhaps another?
Some notes for the player animation. When wearing armour or carrying heavy/loose items. running with arms by your side with the shoulders moving in sync with their leg makes more sense. it helps keep balance and save energy. The head doesn't bob when running currently so it looks like hes riding a bike without pedals. The arm swinging with the sword doesn't account for the sword weight. holding the sword backwards by your hip makes much more sense or over the shoulder with staves/spears. It's probably not your highest priority but hopefully this will help when the time comes
Something immersive would to be to have a npc that goes around lighting the lanterns starting in the evening. they could do it mundanely or thru magical means, but would be pretty cool to see. just a thought :)
Looks really cool, but it is kinda silent for a living city. I think it would be pretty cool to have more sounds like the fireplace (maybe talking people and sounds from the blacksmith). Another idea is having a sort of musician that makes music when you are in the town. Then it would be a lot less silent and it would also explain where the music comes from. Keep up the good work!
Yeah absolutely, the fireplace sounds were accidentally left in. I've been designing all of the levels and assets with sound in mind and will be spending a lot of time in this area. Like you said, it really helps with the immersion. Things like waving grass, chirping birds, villagers talking, fire crackling, wood chopping etc. I think one of the biggest challenges for me making this game, as It is a single-player game, is to make it feel alive and not so lonely. Adding sound effects will help a lot with that feeling.
Such a beautiful game, I literally can't wait! For the town, I think of necessities such as an apothecary, a stable, a hermit/outcast and unfortunately a cemetery or crypt which might drive a story arc. Keep up the good work guys!
Holy cow, the game looks insane! The last video I watched was 9 months ago?! It's been 9 months?! Well, none the less, that's an insane amount of progress! Keep up the great work!
This has to be the most beautiful game I’ve seen in a while... can’t wait for its release 🥺. I just click on your videos most times just to feed my eyes lol
I love it looks pretty cool, besides I would change the ground texture, in-town like a cobblestone walkways, with those fancy stone bridges, and buildings feels more like a high-ranked town, I think it would give a more townish feeling rather than dirt ground village.
I love the look of everything so far. maybe you could do some ruins or a druids circle. just something that is old and makes the village feel like its been around for a while.
Very nice turnout and clearly a lot of hard work paying off. Town is particularly immersive in the night scene with the firelight. I imagine the daytime will look equally so when the NPCs are added in. One suggestion I would have is try polishing the animation of the main character. It's nice, but a bit unnatural, like his torso doesn't seem to move when he jogs along, etc... I say that with compliments--it's worth doing because nothing else in that scene betrays a one-man team :).
This game looks cool already! Well collectibles will be really important in your game. Because of that I would recommend a swimming animation and stuff floating in the water like in Heroes series. That could make every water scene more fun. Or you could find interesting thing in the air such as baloon, birds to hunt etc. Also I usually start up my environments with basic day and night setup with road/ town lights that could give you more ideas about your props needs, quest items, random collectibles and NPC placements. I think in a game like this you have to make decisions if you really want to use a bridge and pay for the guard or fight a a crocodile. So you can develop the characters soul or choose to be the bad or the angel hero.
The town is awesome and i love how the game now has an immersive feeling to it , but the thing that makes or breaks a game is the story, i feel like this environment has so much potential to deliver a great and immersive story, think something like Subnautica or The forest or even the side quests in The Witcher 3. I see a lot of great game designs wasted because of poor game play or a bad story, and i would hate to see this happen in this game as i love what you've done so far. I think coming up with an intriguing story with good relatable characters will help shape up the game and also help with the level design as you will need some plot devices to help progress the story. Also it would be very cool to see this aspect of game development as very few people share this part, and i think it would be very interesting. Keep up the great work. it is very inspiring.
Very insightful! I've been planning story elements since I first started working on the game. Like you said, trying to create characters that are quirky, relatable and different, that also have meaningful contributions to the players experience and the story lines. I'll definitely be explaining my ideas for the story line and how it progresses. As id love to get more feedback on it all :)
There could be a village system where towns are full of people doing jobs and the player could make their own villages a bit large for a single update and could put a dent in the FPS but some optimization could make it very possible!
You can add features that take up land. For example: if you were to add fish you could add little fishing spots or if you want to add more monsters you could add more monster territories/ hideouts. These are just examples but doing this could help you in any game.
It might make sense in the editing ui for the 'destroy' wedge to be smaller than the 'paint' or 'material' wedges, to improve the player experience. Nobody likes accidentally hitting a 'ruin my work' button.
you could use some fallen trees and squrriels to make the game feel more alive, for the coast maybe a dead whale would be a nice decoration good luck loving it so far!
This looks AMAZING!!! Thanks so much for sharing what you've got so far. Seeing something like this is invaluable for someone like me just beginning. Cheers! edit: sorry if I haven't seen it discussed in your previous work, but are you able to explain your water, and how it's setup? I assume some sort of shader?
Realistically there would probably be a lot more farmland around the town in order to support the villagers. Unless they're getting all of their food from trading with somewhere else - or maybe they get most of their food from fishing.
it might be cool if the pirate island looks bit like "the rough side of town". Maybe not a total slum, but definitely a bit more unruly and messy, with rickety, makeshift stalls and paraphernalia everywhere.
My suggestion will be on the character himself... he immediately rotates to the mouse position like spinner :) it does not look cool... may be you add a slowly turning around himself animation so that he can slowly steps around himself to reach to the mouse position/angle... It will add more natural movement to the character...
Dude thats absolutely amazing... I can't wait for your game to be ready so I can play it!! By the way, did you desing the grass, and water effects? I really like those!!
I was working with this dude from my prior workplace bit he has been so busy with his job snd I have been busy with my job we couldn't get together so our game hasn't even begun development yet snd all he can do is build basic maps and I have to work around them so I think I'm just gonna proceed on my own st this point
What programs did you use and what did you use each program for? Also we’re there any guides or resources that helped you learn how to achieve such an awesome result? I would like to include, this is beautiful! Very nice work I think you’ve done a fabulous job!!
Looks really nice. I'd like to make a game :/ ... but there's two barriers for me 1. Getting Started 2. The Art/Sound assets. I like programming and mathematics, I'll be awful at 3D modelling / Drawing :(
I'm thinking Candy Man. A character who seems kind but his products are not the best for you. You'll get an initial boast but then over time, it's a drag.
Are you planning to have horses, livestock or possibly pets? They'd be a great addition to the game to keep the player company (also means another hut in the middle of the forest :D)
This looks pretty epic, seems to run very smooth too. Could you not impliment a way of alpha fading the trees so you can see your avatar, maybe a shader, so you can still see a stump but not the whole tree.
I am really loving your progress. I would love to know more about how you achieved your night scene. I am working on a prototype and would love understand this type of lighting you have shown us.
Love the graphics, looks beautiful

oh wow, I've missed a bunch of dev logs and you've come so far since the last one I saw, well done my dude. Looks great

Reminds me from a mod in skyrim

@@FlowStudio perhaps the odd roaming chicken clucking about, or stray cat lounging in the sun.
On the beach area from the left, the old rusty ship and shells would look good. The city looks super!
Julian I love ur vids they give off such a chill vibe. hah
keep making them buddy!
Add a light house that u can go up on
Such a beautiful game, I literally can't wait! For the town, I think of necessities such as an apothecary, a stable, a hermit/outcast and unfortunately a cemetery or crypt which might drive a story arc. Keep up the good work guys!

This is fantastic. I'm making devlogs myself and it's very impressive how engaging this video is!
This has to be the most beautiful game I’ve seen in a while... can’t wait for its release 🥺. I just click on your videos most times just to feed my eyes lol
Dude, your game look amazing, hope you will keep going with this Game
This game looks wicked! TH-cam’s algorithm did well, you just earned a sub!
I’m really enjoying your progress
Absolutely inspiring work
This game looks amazing! Keep it up like that!

yo i just found this and it looks sick mate
the graphics are hella tight, I'll have to go back through prev devlogs to see how it's done

Nice town and great progress !!!
You can add some fishermen where you can buy food or get some quests (or something like that)
this whole wip game looks so chill and calm
the town looks so cool, keep it up man!

These comments alone just gave me so many ideas alone. Really great vid! 🔥🔥🔥🍻
Wow looks so nice! Put like a big bell tower on that klif
There could be a village system where towns are full of people doing jobs and the player could make their own villages
a bit large for a single update and could put a dent in the FPS but some optimization could make it very possible!
It's so beautiful looking. Perfect lighting and colors
looks great, would recommend changing or lowering that sound when you swapping wood for stone
looks promising !! keep up man!!
This is looking great! I think a lighthouse could be cool.
Seems to be a lot of votes for a lighthouse. Consider it done!
Wow , you can put a hidden cave with a waterfall hiding it under the rock mountain area ! Like an entrance to a secret basement..
Good progress!
Good work

Yeah good idea! That's a great way of thinking
Great job man!!!
Looks great!
woah, this looks cool. :-)
thanks random youtube suggestion!
Beautiful game!!! 🌻
Looking pretty good!
The town looks awesome, can't wait for the game to be finished so I can play it :)
Wow, I love the house in the beginning
Wow that's a lot of progress
dam, this looks great, good job
The style of the world looks really cool, hoped it was Frst Person. Anyway keep going:)
Lighthouse, castle, dungeon, hedge maze, ruins, beach fort, hay field, barn, cow pasture, street signs, idk, just ideas I had
Love love love how this game is turning out!!!
Suggestion: Maybe adding pet companions?
I rememer you from mythical sausage!!!
This is unreal would look so sick
Hey :) Nice stuff you got there.
Any tutorial or some pointers for the modeling style, this mixture between lowpoly and cool looking. thank you
Awesome work. Love the look and feel. How about adding a fish market
I can't get over how brilliant the graphics are - are you able to do a tutorial or showcase on how you made them
this looks so good
Beautiful UI

good luck loving it so far!
Love how the townes turned out
Looks great! Be cool to have caves.
For the nature house, the person living there could be "the hermit"?
which one ;)
Great job ! :)
WOAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! This is beautiful
Looks really promising - for now your own private paradise :D. For suggestions , oh man you gotta have lighthouse right ? dident see one.
Watch the latest video ;)
you need a lighthouse!
It kind of reminds me of RuneScape and I LOVE that.
Realistically there would probably be a lot more farmland around the town in order to support the villagers. Unless they're getting all of their food from trading with somewhere else - or maybe they get most of their food from fishing.
it might be cool if the pirate island looks bit like "the rough side of town". Maybe not a total slum, but definitely a bit more unruly and messy, with rickety, makeshift stalls and paraphernalia everywhere.
looks cool!
You can add statues in the town and forests, depicting deities of your game.
Awesome!
The top plateau would be ideal for a Windmill/Flour Mill with wheat fields around it.
Suggestion, change that sharp noise when changing the wall texture or w/e it was it makes my ears bleed a bit. xD Amazing work so far tho man.
Yeah I agree
You did all that yourself? thats amazing
Hmm you could add some type of arena or camp where you could train. Or a chapel with a cemetery. Or a school. Maybe a doctor's house - infirmary.
Try putting some flowers among the grass red , blue pink..
Make it more outstanding...
Add a lighthouse to the end of pirate island.
Maybe a fishing hut on the empty strip of beach?
dude amazing
Very cool.
Really looks great maybe a light tower on pirates island or the area you said you don't know what to put there
My suggestion will be on the character himself... he immediately rotates to the mouse position like spinner :) it does not look cool... may be you add a slowly turning around himself animation so that he can slowly steps around himself to reach to the mouse position/angle... Nature Wizard Dude = Druid? Alchemist? Shaman? Herbalist?
Are you from diablo or Dota?
Not played either of those games, why?
interesting as always!
Crazy bro
The town definetily needs a light house and maybe a butcher and a florist
I was working with this dude from my prior workplace bit he has been so busy with his job snd I have been busy with my job we couldn't get together so our game hasn't even begun development yet snd all he can do is build basic maps and I have to work around them so I think I'm just gonna proceed on my own st this point

Wild wolves as enemies
