@@dennisroriksson1889 Because Asia dominated the world for thousands of years. Like it or not, Mesopotamia, Arabia, Persia, India, and China were all far more influential throughout written history. The Silk Road went West, not East.
@@ruedelta Sure Asia did have advanced civilisations since the Bronze Age and throughout antiquity, but they never dominated the world in the same way us Europeans did. For example the Persians were a very advanced people and they even tried to conquer all of Greece, but they failed. They were able to conquer parts of Greece but their rule over those territories didn't last long. In the end the Greeks kicked the Persians out. Not only did the Greeks manage to withstand such a huge enemy as the Persians, under Alexander the Great the Greeks actually conquered Persia and built hellenic Kingdoms on the ruins of Persia. The Selucid Empire, one of those hellenic States built after the conquest of Persia by Alexander, existed for almost 250 years on the territories of the former Persian Empire. Us Europeans conquered the most and in the end we triumphed and built massive colonial Empires. The american continent, Africa and large parts of Asia, all of that was conquered by us and colonised by us. Like it or not, but it was actually us Europeans that dominanted the World for hundreds of years. And without a doubt, it is us Europeans that had the largest cultural impact on the modern World.
@@dennisroriksson1889 Well if you are using conquest as the prime determining factor of "dominate" then yes, obviously it's Europe that dominates the world. But I wouldn't bundle Europe into a single entity - after all Europeans fighting each other is just a reality of that entire period of domination and continues even through today with NATO vs Russia. It's like how I'm not picking the entirety of Asia here as my categorization. Pick a single polity, not an entire region that flattened itself through two extremely bloody wars. If you want to move away from conquest, then perhaps we can look at more useful definitions of domination.

Yes because of tour bundles. Those three are almost always together, like, if you're going on a trip to Singapore already, why not Malaysia? They're practically in the same place. And if you're going to 2 SEA nations already, might as well go to a 3rd, Thailand is a very popular destination. Many tourists may not know where the countries are on a map but it sounds like a good deal to have 3 nations within 1 trip.

Well, seriously, I think if you ask people culturewise, you get more content, For example, if you ask what they know about the UK, people can name quite a lot-- bands \the queen\ soccer teams\ etc. After all, most people in the world just don't care about the exact locations especially map shapes of most countries except the neighbouring ones, thus it's not a good benchmark
That mindset doesn’t really apply to China when the majority of their population is restricted to outside media and are influenced by other people within their own social bubble.
Original comment: "Looking at the comments here, looks like whether the internet is censored doesn't affect how ignorant people are" And the rest are basically saying that Chinese people who don't know these basic countries should be reprimanded, and the American video is even worse. They'd be hard-pressed to find a classmate around them who doesn't know them. I would agree that this interview isn't quite representative. In fact, Chinese people are as a whole rather informed about world affairs, more so than say Americans. Chinese often treat geography and history the way they treat other things. They'll learn all the countries, capitals, history, facts, and just have a general love for learning, pretty astonishing.

Why do you think that Europe is overrared? Us Europeans really accomplished a lot. Us Europeans dominanted the whole World for hundreds of years.

I choosed Maths as my stream as I am a highschool student of 3rd year. But after watching this I think I should just take a ticket to China and America and get a job as a geography teacher and I am pretty sure I will get a job to teach even adults.Just because I will be considered a genius there. 😱😱😱
That little boy was great, when he was asked where is America, he pointed out America and Alaska at the same time.

They don't even know about their neighbouring country India. In India we learn about our neighbouring countries in grade 2 or 3
TANU SINGH Actually we do learn about India at elementary school and middle school. However it seems that loads of Chinese don’t remember them at all due to this video.
I know India, I feel people around me know that too. I don't know why people in video don't...If you do an interview at India there might also have some people can't recognize China
yes ,only blind people
THANK YOU!!👏👏 I would love for this to be done for a variety of countries.
The most common narrative is that Americans suck at geography the most, reflecting an extreme ethnocentrism and stupidity of the populance... BUT THE TRUTH IS A LOT OF PEOPLE in the world struggle with geography! Especially as each day we're living more and more in a world where information is a simply click away so we aren't necessarily committing the same knowledge to memory as we once did in the past.
Great video, I hope the people in the video are ok nowadays with everything going on in Shanghai!
