What a Christmas in 1984 as a 7 yr old. Remember watching the box of delights and got to stay up to watch One of our dinosaurs is missing...my favourite film for years as a child.
The BBC1 closedown as the snowmen spin & the national anthem plays and it fades to dark, but the moon is still there whilst the snowmen continue to dance - Absolutely Brilliant!!
I love watching all these old 80's BBC Christmas ads for shows, Kaos looks crap though & I can't imagine them ever showing One of our Dinosaurs is Missing ever again
When was the last time they ever repeated the Box of Delights?. Why don't any of the freeview channels we have like ITV3, Drama, Yesterday etc (all mostly appealing to the 80-90-yr old target audience) show these old TV shows?. It's always Porridge, Summer Wine, Allo Allo and Minder and modern-ish stuff like Midsomer Murders.
@@bdavebaldwin I noticed. I really like the idents backgrounds, too. At least it gives off a bit of variety from the past 2 years, which both involve Snowflakes for BBC1 and Xmas Trees for BBC2.
Richard Alexander I recorded loads of material with a view to watching when I had time - which never happened so a lot of the tapes were brand new with only one recording. Plus in those days it was at standard speed so the quality was better
@bdavebaldwin I started using High Grade tapes that year. The best one I used (at the time) was the Sony UHG hi-fi cassette. Even better were the Scotch EXG hi-fi tapes that were introduced the following year & I finally got to use the PRO grade tapes which were, by VHS standards, excellent
Ahhh Christmas 1984. I recorded The Top Pop Videos of '84 (ITV/Thames) & the 2-part TOTP hits of that year I remember Escape To Victory being premiered on BBC ONE along with The Deer Hunter on BBC TWO & Superman II on ITV on New Year's Day One final memory, I also remember watching the abysmal "Live Into '85" at my relatives house on New Year's Eve. That was a shocking disaster for BBC Scotland with Tom O'connor virtually running out of ad-libs !
Loved Christmas tv back in the day,...and looking at some of the things that were on ,...I certainly over indulged in the turkey.....and not just the edible variety
I think that Christmas I got ‘locked in’ a pub on Christmas Eve, got home at 6am on Christmas Day and went to bed. Most of the wiz bang don’t miss stuff….. I missed
You look and see just the two white cars in the bbc television studio car park on Christmas Day from the Ariel views and you kinda feel sorry for the two mugs that are keeping everything ticking over on the day by just watching the automated system and announcing programs lol…
@@bdavebaldwin I think it's the content that was available to watch during this festive period on BBC 1, not your efforts to record, archive and make available material for 35 years ago.

A handful of people like me care about their Xmas idents. It is an upgrade from 1983, and came before 1985's... ugh...
Monstrosity

Noel Edmonds Christmas Mornings as a family we all stopped to watch, Oh when BBC Christmas was Fantastic Viewing
Thanks so much David for these uploads
Noel’s Christmas presents was one of the great programmes on Xmas day.

I love how the Christmas edition of Blue Peter was the same *every* year. Coat hanger advent calendar, a couple of donkeys and a massive choir!
Probably still like it now
@@bdavebaldwin I'd like to think so! I hope they still do the appeals too. I spent months crushing empty cans of pop for Romanian orphans one year!
@@AlisonBryen👏👏👏
In 1984 I was well versed in getting pissed thank god for that it eased the visual pain
flat eman same here. I set the video, went to pub with the intention of watching stuff later and 40 years later......

Jesus! That model of Snowpeople is spinning so fast that I'm impressed that they managed to stay on!
Yes one of them really is a snow-woman thanks to Michael Grade

Thanks for sharing this, lovely to watch
Picture quality is amazing on this recording
Amazing quality recordings still. Must have kept those tapes safe and sound somewhere... an intriguing archive!

Nice of Noel to give RTÉ viewers a welcome!
Robert Maxwell, performing we are sailing?
He was at least twice I believe. He must have been a fan of the magic show
@4:16 "How did my pension dissapear?" - "That's Magic"
Let's see, Kaos on BBC2 or Raiders Of The Lost Ark on STV. Trying to work out the better choice.
😂
Ahhhh great times before reality tv and x factor shit

CHRISTMAS FELT LIKE CHRISTMAS
I must confess my ears did prick up at Ghostbusters on TOTP at 2 o’clock.
Robert Maxwell, he was a great magician, watch that pension money disappear!
great days.......long gone... ..
I forgot that Wogan finished hosting Blankety Blank as long ago as 1983
Loved Christmas tv back in the day,...and looking at some of the things that were on ,...I certainly over indulged in the turkey.....and not just the edible variety
4:15 I wonder was Daniels the one behind Robert Maxwell's disappearing act?
I WAS 7 MONTHS OLD WHEN THIS AIRED.
okay don't rub it it, I was 16
Gutted I forgot to tape Kaos!! Must of cost the bbc all of a fiver to buy that from Azerbaijan or wherever it’s from.
I think that Christmas I got ‘locked in’ a pub on Christmas Eve, got home at 6am on Christmas Day and went to bed. Most of the wiz bang don’t miss stuff….. I missed
That kaos looks brilliant ..erm ..
Yes, I bet BBC2 viewers were splitting their sides all over the country during that!
Pop Quiz Christmas Spesh , Brilliant.
So Escape to Victory was premiered in Christmas 1984. Suspect that it will be on a FTA channel this year..
I was so wrong. Do hope it is shown on FTA soon
Did Paul Daniel make the pension money disappear from Robert maxwell account
7:34 - from the thumbnail I thought it was Jimmy Pursey and Ozzy Osborne. 😂
Robert maxwell, he's gonna find out how to make people's money disappear....
Christmas day 1984 I remember it
well as I was a 20 year old in bed with glandular fever. I have never felt so ill. 🤒😩🤢
Bring back the 80s for christ sake! The world we live in now is utter shit!!
They didn't have TH-cam in the 80s.
@@jamesupton4996 what's that got to do with it..?..another bleeding liberal
BBC2 should have shut down playing Christmas music every year, that a perfect example (they didn't do it in 1985).
Do you have full closedown of bbc1 from december 23rd and boxing day?
amazingly according to the tape listings ..... yes.
You look and see just the two white cars in the bbc television studio car park on Christmas Day from the Ariel views and you kinda feel sorry for the two mugs that are keeping everything ticking over on the day by just watching the automated system and announcing programs lol…
So many memories
how ass does that raven film look?
Robert Fucking Maxwell.
And the ident turntable is going too fast!!!!
Those poor snowmen must have got motion sickness, lol!
Double lol.
*Ahem*
One of them was a woman.
Kaos looks like chaos or maybe the writer was off his head on drugs, I think the latter of the two.
I don't think the christmas tree was necessary during Michael Fish's forecast
I don't think the weather forecast was necessary!
As a kid I loved all the quiz shows with the mad rotating sets and cheesy gags. Don’t really watch telly now, it’s s***e.
Robert Maxwell indeed
Certainly could make money vanish
"We're all going to get wet, for a time"...I love how stuffy Brits are, yet the innuendos are obvious.
Obvious to you, at least
KAOS WTF
I think the only thing that looked more boring than Kaos is a party political broadcast by Sir Keir.
DREADFUL!!!!.
Sorry I'll try harder if I'm ever unfortunate enough to be sent back to this hole of a planet in another life.
@@bdavebaldwin I think it's the content that was available to watch during this festive period on BBC 1, not your efforts to record, archive and make available material for 35 years ago.
Michael fish! Nearly 3 years before the Hurricane debacle 😀🤘🏻
Face it. The best part of 1984 was the idents they used of the snowpeople
Tele was shite then
It’s no better now
