This always reminds me of the winter of 1999. I was a senior in high school and working as a cashier at a local grocery chain called Big Y in E Longmeadow, MA. Even though Sebadoh is from that area, only a handful of people that I knew were familiar with em. The Sebadoh album had come out and I can't remember how, but I had gotten a seBADoh bumper sticker and slapped it on the bumper of my 1987 Oldsmobile Delta 88 and while walking out of work one night I noticed a note had been stuffed under my wiper. "Dude, you rock!" it read. "This is Drew and Andy and we didn't think anyone else in this town were into Sebadoh!!! So cool!. I must've played the song on my ride home cuz every time I hear the opening I get the flashback to that specific time, and what the almost empty parking lot looked like. That's my long winded story, and I'm sticking to it.
Western MA waster gang
When subpop ruled the world and college music meant something.
Listen to audiotree live shows, a lot of the bands that perform on there are really good and not too far from this era of music
Sub Pop is still around
And from a financial standpoint, bigger than ever
this comment has hardcore 'le wrong generation' vibes. Believe me, Ethan. The indie scene is doing just fine, you just need to look harder.
@@apullcan I hear ya. But music venues are closing down. Back yard shows don't happen anymore. Certain cities it seems alive, but nationally it is not the same at all. Good luck and keep it alive.
"The pain we can't escape at least can wait" is one of my favorite lines ever.
Phrase sums up my entertainment with various substances ...
Man im on a 90's nostalgia ride this morning. This was in the cd player as my band was driving through europpe playing Lo-Fi music, hungry, wet, no money, sleeping in a crampy Van, I'd do it all over again in a hearbeat.
Barlow has the most beautiful voice ever.
no.
no.
yea
Not my fav vocalist but he has a really nice voice
I love Lou!!
That opening guitar chord is *chef’s kiss*.
Best decade of my life, so glad to have be a teen in the 90’s, great new music, great shows in cool venues. Unfortunately, at least in Philly, a large majority of the smaller venues disappeared. I miss those times, and the miss the scene.
Manmelt fuck, I totally agree. Seeing Indie/Alternative/Emo Bands at small, intimate venues was the best part of late teens and early 20's. We were in on something the rest of the world was missing out on.
I wish I was a teen in the 90s. The 2020s are not treating me well
Same.
When the cassette tape automatically switching sides was the most technology you needed really.
@@Iovearchive same. To be fair tho They’re not treating anyone well.
[Verse 1]
There is history in this place
There are dragons to be chased
And though I don't know who you are
An easy flow and a strong, a strong heart
And the charm in the way you hide
[Chorus]
Gently take my skull for a ride
[Verse 2]
And I don't know who you are
But I know what I would like you to be
A one-night stand under stoned persuasion
But a joy that I can't hide
[Chorus]
Gently take my skull for a ride
[Bridge]
We can never ever go too far
The pain we can't escape at least will wait
So let's go quickly, no we go slow
Let's go chasing dragons through the snow
[Outro]
Kindly take my all
And give me all you have
Gently take my skull for a ride
Take and shake your soul
But never lose control
Gently take your skull for a ride
i feel such powerful nostalgia towards this song/ video....despite having known this song for only a short time
Tom Penny killing the san diego chain to bank ..... good stuff
🤣 Flip Skateboards Baby!!
anthology !
Good times 🤟🏻
When driving an old beat up car with the whole band inside was the basis of most music videos. That time when everything was perfect. Somewhere a vhs copy of mallrats was playing. Someone was playing sega drinking soda for breakfast. Some kid was skateboarding chewing bubble gum and when she let you put your hand on her leg while driving, you remember you’ve never felt so alive and free. The click of the tape switching sides automatically was the most technology you needed
That was one side of it... When that car crashed and you always knew it was gonna crash. It could only crash; you were driving. So fast... Too fast... Always trying to escape some place. Somewhere out there was a needle exchange. We mostly all ended up there. Waiting in those orange chairs, reading posters about hepatitis and HIV, a white vision of the past, a melancholic mist drifting in from your travel. That was after we had learnt what life and love was... A fleeting, mystical twirl. Beaten down. Some guy shot his wife and brother. Another glided from the top floor of a tall building. The bands had split. Music moved on. We were all into our solo projects. The room was falling apart. You tried to pawn the door. It was open all hours after that...
Got Bakesale CD for Christmas in 1994. When people wanna know what the 90s sounded like (beside the obvious Nirvana, STP, AIC, etc.) - I point to Bakesale (along with much of DinoJr)
The 1990s seem like a lifetime ago.
Yeah mostly that's a bad thing.
Yes they do.
:(
It was, for those of us who remember it...
They were.
I heard this song on a Skateboarding video from 1995 called UNO. I liked the song so I wanted to hear it here on youtube..
Tom Penny!
Probably my favourite skating part of all time!! Penny destroyed that bank with all those flip combinations.. so stylish 😎
Sebadoh was the first band I got into. Got to see them live in Cleveland
As many have stated, I too found Sebadoh through The Uno Video. I always though t Transworld took great care in choosing music. Many bands I'm still into were discovered through skate vids.
Reminds me when I when I got for Christmas the Uno Transworld video in 95. I proper nailed that VHS.
One of the best video-clips ever! Fact! Inoxidable, perfect tune!
Geoff rowley and Tom penny making history to this
Transworld anthology video was where I first heard this and takes me back every time.
Don't know why but I think I'm going to cry
DumbPunk have u had a spiritual awakening lately ?
There was (and still is) a bar called Bradys in Hammond, La.. there was this dude that used to wear this bands shirt .. the baby and the toilet.. I think he was also the bassist for Invisible Cowboy if I remember correctly.. I was stoned a lot then though.. lol.. anyways I then wondered what they sounded like .. ffwd to now..
huge gem man
Even in 2018, this is still the jam.

I was 2 months old when this album was released. Wild!
Still one of my favorites
My art teacher in high school used to like this one.
idem = This is one of the band most originals and fun i've discovered ever !
still good to ear this !
If a band had an anarchist A in their video, they were good!
Outstanding ✨👽✨
UNO Transworld Skateboarding ...nostalgie
heh, J's mom knitted that deep wound sweater he's in. Man, wish i coulda' seen dino as deep wound but i would have been like 3 yrs old. Got to see them all in 93 but not together........as sebadoh and post lou dinosaur jr.
Sebadoh came to my college to promo this album and I was lucky enough to catch their show. Tickets were $5. There were fewer than 50 people at the show. It was fantastic.
UNO brought us all to this song!! that video had such a kick ass soundtrack.
Tough guys don't dance what's your problem
Perhaps the best ever song about Dungeons and Dragons
Just checking these guys out as I saw a picture of elliott smith standing next to t shirts for sale of this band.
I've loved Elliott Smith since forever ❤️ He's awesome.
@@alexisarrizon6799 you have good taste

There is a short clip of bass clarinet at the opening, is it Eric Dolphy?

sweet
I never understood the popularity of 'Skull'. Why this one? Maybe one day I'll figure it out.
In general, or recently? If recently, it's because it was in a skate video or two.
chunkymonkey I was thinking in general, compared to other songs of the catalogue. I’ll get there...!
Another song about smoking heroin?
@@2tonesg I’m not sure what ‘recent’ means in this context bc Transworld Skateboarding’s Uno was put out in ‘96 and Anthology was put out in 2000. I think a lot of us were in our early teens when these videos came out. So it’s not necessarily the fact that it was put in a skate video, it’s that we’re all revisiting (via TH-cam) our childhoods with these songs.
Great fucking song low!!!
Is there a pic of dinosaur Jr or am I drunk?
@TwistedSpeech i dont get it, how should i understand what u mean?
Lou Barlow
I really pity that gut with the Peavey Amp!
Transworld anthology :)
Where the heck was this filmed i need answers
There is a shot of the Vermont Brigade's monument in a cemetery..Lou is on Instagram..message him. I'm sure he'll tell all.
@@yolandbator180 thank you!!!!!!!!
Try that again great fucking song lou.!✌✌
is that my attic
HOLY FRICK THATS MY ATTIC
@@sadiereynolds2294 what?
cmon Nirvana? Sebadoh was just kind of a side project- amazing that it went as mainstream as it did.
@Scoutscout1000 they don't really deserve it per se, but they have been around long enough to make a name for themselves and get some credit where it's due. They just played in my home town a couple of days ago and I fucking missed the show. I'm still angry about that.
Don't miss them this time around.

This is what we called “Butt Rock” in the 90’s.
"We" did?
@@silentqueue2344 we called it indie rock
This is exactly what "we" didn't call butt rock
UNO
My uncles brought me here
I always believed the focus of this song was sex, am I wrong?
Its more about drugs. "Gently take my skull for a ride" "take and shape your soul, but never lose control" its about taking different drugs the right way.
Both really
"Dragons to be chased"
Good call. I never realized that.
drugs and ego
