I saw Sebadoh in London early 91 or 92 and walked out half thru the show - they were goofing off on stage and the drummer Eric could barely hold his sticks. The band now of course is something else- solid 💕
I'm pretty sure Sebadoh has delivered at least a couple dozen classic "indie rock" songs. After all, they practically coined the phrase in "Gimme Indie Rock". It's a safe bet that KEXP wouldn't invite a band that never delivers to perform live in the studio.
Best I have seen Sebadoh ever - my personal high point was the "Nick of time" as an album recording - they are somewhat hard to love but this performance is kick butt- a trio with 2 iconic sounding voices and a rocking sound that really just mauls you into submission, such a great surprise!
Sebadoh "never seem to deliver"? NEVER??!!?? Okay, if rock-n-roll isn't your thing, I can see that. But if you like modern ("indie"), guitar-based rock music, Sebadoh have several classics. III is a masterwork, and Bakesale isn't far behind. Their other, pre-Bakesale works contain enough gems to easily make a powerful 2-disc hits set. Obviously their early works are hit or miss, but when they hit.... KABAAM!!!
M? Doesn't make any sense to me they are completely different bands, I just don't get it. Are these people bashing sebadoh even fans? Eh, whatever. In my opinion they are one of the greatest bands ever and I know plenty of people out there agree. Can't wait for the tour.
I just recently got into sebadoh. Lou Barlow is cool, he does his thing and he’s good. Jason’s voice is awesome but he cannot solo... at all. Is that just his style of soloing or..?
Ya think? I find "Keep the Boy Alive" and "My Drugs" to both be quite worthwhile, and they're well-played here. "Careful" doesn't live up to its greatness here for some reason, but I think "tedious" is more than a bit harsh.
I got Bakesale when it came out, it had a few moments but I only played it about 4 times. I do like Indie music a lot, but perhaps only the UK version.
I have never seen a guitar strung like Lou's. It looks like octaves on the A and D strings, like a typical 12-string, and then G and B strings alone, maybe? Sounds like crap, but I love him and the idea to pieces!
They're two different bands man, accept that they're not gonna sound alike but don't go around bashing other bands because you don't like it. That's not fair, and it just isn't cool to those who actually like it.
Kurt did it on something in way. Of course never played it live. But his 12 string Stella strung to 6 strings is what we hear everytime we hear that beautiful haunting song " Something in the way".
Completely agree. Sebadoh's albums have their moments, and I do play them often. But Lou simply doesn't measure up to J Mascis' skills, neither as a songwriter, nor as a musician. It was a good move to reunite with Dinosaur Jr. They are now producing lots of wonderful music.
Js solo records never did anything for me, very opposite to Lous records with Sebadoh. Lous Songs on Dinosaur Records, old or new, are also always my favorites on the record.
why do bands and comedy i like to watch have the pop up ad "join a trial for clinical depression".I bet Taylor Swift etc don't get that shit but they should
+belongin It's a Gretsch, like the 'Queens Of The Stone Age' use. Not sure of the model name, might be a 'reverend' or something. Check their site, should be able to find it on problem man. :D
I can understand why Lou wants to come out from under the Dinosaur Jr shadow and to make music that's nothing like that, but this is just tedious stuff unfortunately.
Heard the whole set (in pain and XXXtreme bore) and wonder what it is that makes this band (obviously) popular. This weird anti-rhythm (try to "dance" or even shake your head to it), no real singer with a voice and this very-very mediocre compositions. I simply find them not-good. Example to put things in perspective: Portugal.the man = 10 Sebadoh = 3-
Lou plays guitar like the way he plays bass which is like the way he plays guitar.
best comment
Jason is on fire here, this version of Careful-- so raw, Viva Sebadoh
Jason was always my fav
@@alienog5297 my fav Sebadoh song!

did u know how much i love sebadoh ??
My favourite band of all time.

Tbh Jason is the true power house of the band. His voice and guitar style are just killer. Always leaned towards his songs more than lou s
yea..ever song that jason does...
Everything Lou does is so much better live than in a studio.
This is live in a studio.
Yes! My wish come true: Sebadoh-Gig in Dresden at the Beatpol! Big thing!!! Thank you!!!
This is the first, maybe second KEXP interview I didn't skip completely. They are so funny! :)
Keep The Boy Alive: 0:00
State Of Mine: 4:13
Interview: 7:33
My Drugs: 15:49
Careful: 19:36
They're like the masters of improv. They just let it fly

I'd happily mix and master these guys all day if they ever go broke. My dream group to work with.
Jason is a great vocalist
The best band in the world
Nice job on "My Drugs", Jason!
Man... This bass is amazing!

I love this organic stripped down sound. It's like eating a fresh, natural apple instead of drinking some industrial apple juice.
Couldn't agree more.
come see my new band Industrial Apple
yeah
Hahahhh
I like this analogy
He modded that 12 string Gretsch to a tenor with the two bottom strings doubled up??? That's...really interesting actually.
I was trying to figure that out myself, thank you.
I saw them play a couple of weeks ago in Sydney, amazing show.
That's bullshit. You wrote this 5tears agi
AWESOME SUPER GENIUS SEBADOH !!!
I like it!!! Sebadoh, please come for a gig to Dresden or Leipzig!!!
This sounds better than they did live, and about as good as any other KEXP recording.
Coolest band on the planet
so fresh, so great as always... absolutely near to you!
Awesome, Way to go Sebadoh!!!
solid as a rock!
Thanks KEXP!
great band ...
awesome color!!!
Finally, thanks a ton!
I'd always assumed Lou did vocals on Careful 🤯🤯🤯
Holy shit, that bass is cool !
Bass in careful needs to be way louder, its a bass song
Yeah, it sounded weird here.
It’s weird seeing Lou with a guitar and wailing on that fucking bass like a maniac.
Kickass!
great Jason!
Yo, that JLoew song "My Drugs" is SICK!

tremendous
I'm glad this band is Fish Doctor-approved.
Curious thing: the Low Barlow´s guitar is a 12 strings converted to 6 strings, the first time I see that thing
Kurt did it on something in way. Of course never played it live. But his 12 string Stella strung to 6 strings is what we hear everytime we hear that beautiful haunting song " Something in the way".
I agree with Lou..He should play the bass riff on Careful better...Good performance anyway
Sebadoh > Dinosaur Jr. to me anyway.
I like Sebadoh because they have simpler guitar parts and song structures than Dinosaur Jr.
GTFOH
Lou, get the fucking straitener, bro.
ダイナソーよりセバドーの方が好き
Me too for sure.

The second song is great! It has the same provenance as a Firehose song! Same well, maybe.

Telecaster

if you look close, its a 12 string with 6 tuning pegs randomly yanked out. that (disregarding the savage mod job) might narrow it down.
falta a guitarra do j e a batera do murph
somehow those two crooked yellow front teeth made him even more attractive or is it just me?
I thought Brad Delp died?
i didnt know nicolas cage drumed in a band
pay attention kiddies--this is what happens when people drink & youtube--don't let this happen to you.
the neighboor on weeds tv show :p
Peter Stormare*
Well one has to be frank, Sebadoh have always talked a good tune but never seem to deliver.
says a guy who has 1 Sebadoh record which he played 4times LUL
🤔
hahah what
I can understand why Lou wants to come out from under the Dinosaur Jr shadow and to make music that's nothing like that, but this is just tedious stuff unfortunately.
Careful really sucked. Way to slaughter one of your best songs.
That lad talks way too much.
so do you

Dear troll, I think you just like dance music.
Wanted to like this - but it's just too amateurish and tuneless. Marginal talent.
Ink Black Dude maybe this music is before your time. This sound is indicative of a lot of great times and soulful introspection for a ton of fans.
xpez Not before my time at all - Just think they were/are dull.
Ink Black Maybe they're different live and on record?
Ink Black Maybe they're different live and on record?
SunshineInWoods I have a number of their albums. Saw them live 3 times - they were terrible.
Only pseudo melodies. Listen To "Portugal" to hear true melodies!
great band
