i remember listening to this song when i was in a dead job, getting paid weak money and going absolutely nowhere in life. This song got me through some rough times and helped me realise that life does suck, but only if you let it suck. I was listening to this song everyday and each time I heard it I'd cry a little bit inside. Nothing has made me feel the way I did when I heard the words "I need to hear the sounds that recognise the pain in me", it's a true masterpiece. Thank you Richard Ashcroft
The greatest "feeling" is to know that God loves you and that you can spend eternal life with God. I am sixty six and done it all. It is never enough. Jesus Christ is the ONLY thing that truly brings REAL contentment. God bless, Michael
I love the way this guy looks (he doesn't look like your typical, pretty boy frontman). This guy has unique features that go with the emotion of the song. One of the best "pop" songs of the 90's.

Lyrics- 'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony that's life Trying to make ends meet, you're a slave to money then you die I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places Where all the veins meet, yeah [Chorus] No change, I can change I can change, I can change But I'm here in my mould I am here in my mould But I'm a million different people from one day to the next I can't change my mould No, no, no, no, no, no, no (Have you ever been down?) I can't change it you know, I can't change it
Just the other day, one of my co-workers randomly put this song on loud speakers on the middle of the shift, and suddenly everybody on the room went silent to just sing along as we did our job, the guys from other departments passing by also started to hum/whistle the tune as they went on their way. Even when the bosses heard the song playing loudly, they didn't say a word about it, they just let it happen. Honestly, that is one of the magical moments I will never forget in my life
I hope you can help preserve those memories and share them. This world looks like it's going to get pretty grim, and remembering the good times will be a boon.
@@huskysharky9025 actually no, society is going to shit and it's only getting worse. A few months ago, i heard a 94 year old WW2 vet ask, is THIS the country I fought for? It was sad to hear him ask that. it was his dad that asked that, rather, now that I remember as we were talking.

This song will be played at my funeral. Period. A true masterpiece and a spot on lyrical representation of the internal struggle most people go through life feeling. Being a slave to money is all you know til the day you die, and from one day to the next you can become someone completely different as life changes you. And wether it's your first time praying or your millionth time, you just need need to understand and conquer the pain that comes from within and change yet again. Mostly everything was created in the 90's. It was a privilege being a teenager during that time. I avoided bands like Oasis and Verve as I considered them 'mainstream pop', preferring to listen to 80's rock. But looking back, I think I missed out on my own generation, although I was only 15 when this song got released. Means a lot more to me now. I'm so proud to be British.
@JasonRose-h7j in about the same age as you. I loved bands from the 60s, 70s and 80s but always made sure to love performers such as Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Kate Bush and The Verve. Great times.

It's a shame they never got anything including royalties from this song, it is an amazing song. Yet this song is ironic to the core, the band even got screwed over from their rights to their own song
I'm at a point in life where I feel exactly like him in the video , the world is crazy, superficial connections, nothing's real.. walking through it all while trying to keep hope in the midst of all this insanity people created.. recognizing pain and beauty of life at the same time.. I grew up with this song but I guess the real meaning has been revealed to me only now. This song is timeless.
I never viewed the video like that. The world is flooding towards him and he's barging through it to carry on walking. Just like life, there's not much of a pause. Thank you
Exactly the same for me, after all these years listening to it, the real meaning hit me with goosebumps. I've been questioning a lot of things recently and this song reflect some of those thoughts.
The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony" is an evocative journey through life's complexities, with its haunting melody and profound lyrics. It captures the essence of struggle and redemption, wrapping you in a symphony of emotions that linger long after the last note fades. Truly an unforgettable anthem. 🌟🎶
This song.... played on repeat when my marriage ended in 1997. We were just 26, 2 baby girls & a broken family & heart....so painful. Yet I find with every life change, even now, this is the song I find to play. I cry, feel justified & accept that yes, I can change. Imo, this is one of the best Gen X songs as it’s so relatable in a million ways.
I am 26, one kid, and a completely broken marriage. Yesterday me and my "Wife" if I can still call her that made our minds up that maybe it's for the best we just called it quits. Then today in the morning on the way to work this song plays. The funny thing is that the lyrics almost read my life. I unfortunately have been through life changing experiences at a young age and therefor suffer from extensive bipolarism. I can be mellow one minute, and the next I can loose my shit. It seriously depends on what's said to me or how its said. It hurts knowing that my daughter may be raised with separated parents. But man, this song was like spot on for me. Almost made me feel like I am not the only person out there.
I'm 58 years young and I'm not afraid ,don't care what may be said about me,but this song brings a river of tears to my eyes every time I hear it.so beautiful just mellow!!!
My Dad loved this song so much, and now as I get older, Im starting to like it too, its been 13 years since my dad passed away, and everytime I hear this song, it all comes back, tears, memories, good times with my dad, this will always be reminder to the greatest man I've ever known. Dad
Energy does not die it only changes form, the spirit that your father is, his essence, what animated his body here on earth is now untethered, free. Where your dad is, I do no know but the spirit he is sure is not dead and one day your spirit when it leaves this frequency will communicate with him. That is not wishful thinking, it is critical thinking. The physicists, scientists and mathematicians that developed quantum physics, relativity, chaos theory, Bohr, Einstein, Planck were all men who believed in a God of sorts and who concluded that some sort of mind, entity, intelligence created the physical. We are spirits having a human experience, you are more than your body. Have a great life knowing that there is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more after this earth part of the journey. Do the things that make you happy.
1997 I woke up at 4am and turned the TV on to watch MTV and it was the first time I saw it and it was amazing and still one of my favorite songs. I saw the Verve reunion at the O2, London in 2007 and it was a great closer.
Writing in the comment section of this particular song not just because it is a masterpiece, but also to make a statement that much more people will eventually read: For all of you, just know that The Verve are not even closely matched by any other band in terms of quality songs for this short time. This is a song of pure genius. It's personal. It reflects the human soul. I loved how he's walking down the street, it's subtle and powerful, everyone walking towards his direction don't change their stance, so he bumps em out of the way, then they get mad, lol, so He's supposed to get out of theirs. Human beings pretty much suck these days.
my thoughts exactly! I'm inspired by his single-minded determination and NOT allowing others to dictate to him. Genius and Bravery all rolled into one brilliant video.
the walking down the street is a metaphor for ones life and the people he bumps into are the lives he touches throughout his journey. hes essentually alone until hes joined by his mates walking along the same path.
I rewatched the video a couple of times and it seems like he only bumped into people who were standing in his way. He actually avoided a lot of people who passed him on his right.

This song will always remind me of my friend Matt McCallister. He died in a house fire in our senior year of college. He had been a college radio DJ. At the memorial service, our friends played snippets of him from his radio bits. Toward the end, his voice faded out and this song faded in. I just lost it. After 23 years, this song still is a reminder.

You guys might be taking Luke Munro’s comment and the lyrics out of context? Slave to the money then you die, I believe, means we all have to earn money to meet even our basic needs...no money means no food, no shelter, etc., you work your whole life to earn cause you have no choice therefore the slave part....and the, then you die part, is you gotta do it your whole life! Now the part you have control over is how hard or long are you willing to work for stuff you dont actually need...you know, the toys...the hot car, big house, etc., the older you get or the poorer you are, the more apparent this becomes. So, yes Luke Munro , I agree very true words! A sadder sentiment is those who actually believe, he with the most toys wins....you can’t take it with you when you die baby! Either way this is a great song!💜

@@PAC. The Rolling Stones returned 100% of royalties for the song to The Verve in 2019. And publishing rights forever. They relinquished even their own rightful share, probably as a goodwill gesture, apology, etc. "Mick Jagger and Keith Richards signed over all their publishing for 'Bitter Sweet Symphony,' which was a truly kind and magnanimous thing for them to do." - Richard Ashcroft of the Verve via NPR Music - 2019. You have to consider that the suit was filed by one of the Stones' lawyers and a former manager, Allen Klein, who is a scumbag and who benefited greatly financially. The band members don't always know what goes on behind the scenes. I remember hearing Richards found out about it, and initiated the process of rectifying the situation

i remember listening to this song when i was in a dead job, getting paid weak money and going absolutely nowhere in life.

This song will be played at my funeral. Period. A true masterpiece and a spot on lyrical representation of the internal struggle most people go through life feeling. The 90's wasn't a decade, it was an emotion. The iconic voices of many 90s singers are just... unforgettable.
They said it was the end of history. The internet would bring in something new, but we’ve still yet to figure out what that is
@JasonRose-h7j in about the same age as you. I loved bands from the 60s, 70s and 80s but always made sure to love performers such as Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Kate Bush and The Verve. Great times.

Have a great life knowing that there is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more after this earth part of the journey. the walking down the street is a metaphor for ones life and the people he bumps into are the lives he touches throughout his journey. hes essentually alone until hes joined by his mates walking along the same path.
I rewatched the video a couple of times and it seems like he only bumped into people who were standing in his way. He actually avoided a lot of people who passed him on his right.

I listen to this in 2014 as a kid i'm 23 now and today i suddenly remembered the melody but couldn't recall the name so, i search " man walking downt the street song " and this came on top 😂 i was so surprised
Thanks youtube algorithm♥️
I love how the melody played by the violins arises such diverse happy and sad emotions, therefore resonating with the title “bittersweet”

There are times when I get completely overwhelmed. On some of those occasions, I turn this song on and crank it in my earbuds. There is something incredibly soothing about the strings and the cadence. It helps me to re-center and ground myself. In short...this song has saved me numerous times and it will never not be a favorite. ❤️

‘Slave to money then you die’ no truer words have ever been spoken

Parce que c'est une symphonie douce-amère qui est la vie

J'ai besoin d'entendre des sons qui reconnaissent la douleur en moi, ouais

Mais les ondes sont propres et il n'y a personne qui chante pour moi maintenant

But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I'm a million different people
From one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
(Have you ever been down?)
I can't change, oh, no
I can't change, oh
'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, that's life
Tryna make ends meet, tryna find somebody then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah
You know I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I'm a million different people
From one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no,
I can't change my mold, no, no, no, no
It's just sex and violence, melody and silence
It's just sex and violence, melody and silence
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Have you ever been down?
Have you ever been down?
Have you ever been down?

One of the most striking looking bastards alive. He should be a statue in Rome.

The Verve: Bitter Sweet Symphony
Cause it's a bittersweet symphony this life
Trying to make ends meet, you're a slave to the money then you die.
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah.
No change, I can't change, I can't change, I can't change,
but I'm here in my mold, I am here in my mold.
But I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mold, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Well I never pray,
But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now.
No change, I can't change, I can't change, I can't change,
But I'm here in my mold, I am here in my mold.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mold, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Cause it's a bittersweet symphony this life.
Trying to make ends meet, trying to find some money then you die.
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah.
No change, I can't change, I can't change, I can't change,
but I'm here in my mold, I am here in my mold.
But I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mold, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
I can't change my mold, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
I can't change my mold, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

we gotta make this top comment
Figured if I kept scrolling down I'd find the 500th person that has typed the lyrics to the song. We KNOW them... and if not, we could read the FIRST person that typed them. Besides, the song came out probably before you were born, so I'm sure a lot of us know the lyrics already.
I saw him in Brazil. He bumped into me a few minutes ago, he's still walking and ain't changed yet. My shoulder still hurts. But i'm still here in my mold.
That's very funny.

This song brings sadness to me. Sad memories. I am glad I moved to next dimension in life.
Well said, friend. 👍
I saw a publix commercial with this song today. It opened a floodgate of memories from my middle and high school years. This song is one of the ones I can hear over and over again. It's definitely a masterpiece.
