    S&B cold air intake all the way! You can run it sealed Like the stock box or remove the clear lid and have it open air box style! GNARLY!

    Im with you Justin, the Airaid system has the most bang for MY buck even thought it was a little more $ buck. Not only does it claim to have the most power gains but it really does have the most versatility.
    I can run it sealed or open, dry or oiled. So as my needs change the Airaid cold air box can deliver.
    Also, IMHO it also looks like it SHOULD be the most expensive. :-)

    I bought the JLT and the only thing good about it is it made the engine sound better. With that said I was curious if it actually made the intake air “colder” so I hooked up my tuner and set it to gauges mode and added the intake temp gauge. Very disappointed to discover that the “cold air” intake ran 10 to 25 degrees hotter then the factory intake at the same outside air temp. That was tested at 70mph and at idle for about 10 minutes.

    You should have included the S&B Cold Air Intake! Enclosed filter box box with ram air and the window for viewing the filter. Clean looking and performs very well!

      @David Payne Just installed this model a few nights ago. Had to get a step stool and practically lay in the engine bay to get my tube in the box. Don't think there's a lot of gap lol

    I've installed both the air raid and the roush on 5.0 F150s. The air raid is definitely better quality and better performance in my opinion. I was not very impressed with the roush intake quality and construction for what it costs.

    Was hopeful my this was going to make my decision easier.. yet it’s made it more difficult... debating between K&N or Roush. Leaning more towards Roush just due to the minor performance difference. And also because I’d think the Aluminum or metal that K&N uses would absorb more heat. Anyone have an opinion on this to help me out lol?

      Factory and use an afe or aem drop in dry filter. I've done comparisons on dyno and they make the same gain as a fully sealed airaid and afe, 9hp/13tq. Factory intake is already cold air intake..

    Do both the "dry" and "oiled" Airaid provide the same HP boost, or is the oiled one more powerful? Also, how do you oil the oiled version? Can the oiled version be rinsed off to clean it like the dry one can or is more care involved going with the oiled version?

    • @matthewhartup941

      Same power gains. I have had both, I prefer the dry filter.

    • @07slowbalt

      Dry does not filter as good as an oiled version. With negligeable power differences its a no brainer to go an oiled route.

    Cold air intakes must have really advanced since I was a young man. I put them on my cars when I was younger and to be honest it made the cars run like shit in cold weather. You would have to run with the choke halfway on most the time. Yes they did improve power slightly. Apparently they have advanced quite a bit. However I would never put something like this on my new pick up truck. If the Ford engineers could increase horsepower by simply altering the intake system slightly without affecting other systems I’m sure they would’ve done it. But I’m old and cautious now,, these vehicles cost way too much to be winging it. But for those of you who think 13 hp is worth all of the potential collateral damage (possible warranty disqualification), have at it.

    • @noobsec2519
      @noobsec2519 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      a) you can't void your warranty with a CAI unless you drop parts in the manifold. b) you're talking about carbureted vs EFI and that's like comparing a cow to a goat.

    • @etubrutus3501
      @etubrutus3501 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just because the mixture is enriched automatically through electronic fuel injection instead of manually with a choke, does not mean it is not being enriched. The same process has to take place. In fact, with modern cars I would surmise that this would cause even more problems, as the mixture is enriched, emissions would go out the window.

    The air raid is the closest thing to a true cold air intake. The others suck in hot engine air since they are open and exposed to the engine. Not rocket science. Boosts performance by allowing more air “flow”.

    There's an ongoing debate on the F150 Facebook page as to whether cold air intakes actually provide any horsepower increases, or if they are just for looks. I would think improved air flow would mean more horses, but has anyone actually done any dyno tests to confirm these kits perform as advertised?

    Those open intakes are not that good for hot weather. Plus they suck the engine heat from the bay in and if you're at a light and then gun it after building up heat in the bay, your engine will noticibly delay at the start as it chokes in the hot air from the bay. You definitely want a snorkel CAI.

    • @americantrucks
      @americantrucks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're concerned with heat soak, I would recommend a sealed airbox over an open element style filter. -Justin

    • @07slowbalt
      @07slowbalt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These intakes use a gasket that seals to the hood and not the engine bay. They still use air from the scoop above the grille

    K&N is NOT CARB Certified in California since 2015 for 5.0 F-150. You cannot buy it Ca. at all. If you go to Nevada and buy one then get pulled over it is a $1200.00 fine. I would love to have one but $1200.00 is a bit much. Icalled K&N and they will not sell me one a California!

    • @americantrucks

    Anything that is open style air intake is not a real cold air intake.sealed is better you don’t absorb hot air from the engine bay.ford 5.0 coyote f150 has a good stock set up already except for those useless resonators that come with the factory intake tube.

    • @bendeco
      @bendeco 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I literally lived this. After dropping 375 on a k&n, the shop that tuned my 5.0 coyote told me to get a real intake. He had all kinds of issues with tuning with the hot air from the engine bay being sucked in to to the throttle body.

    • @tira_otro_cambio
      @tira_otro_cambio 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Phack Em I ended up buying a no tune required PMAS cold air intake it comes with a PMAS maf sensor its the biggest one you can get I believe it’s 5 inch diameter on the intake tube 120mm and it made a huge difference over stock and its not an open lid type filter it’s actually enclosed which it doesn’t suck up hot air like JLT and k&n and even has a small ram air in front to take air coming in from the front and also sucks air in from fender like the stock air box I think I paid like $330.

Nah,i hated those 2017's. Hell i almost turned to a Ram even.
