Your quite welcome! I am currently working on a project dealing with safety analysis and using the 5 whys. Do you have any activity suggestions or video suggestions that may be useful?
+Paul Bernath the main thing i can tell you is to design learning activities that tell a story (Level 2 eLearning). Think about writing something that is more of a choose your own adventure rather than just asking knowledge based questions.
+Paul Bernath the client I am doing this for only have case studies and are looking to train individuals on how to properly use the material. developing time lines, facts vs. hypothesis, root causes, etc.
+Paul Bernath so think to yourself about what the expected performance. Then try to design your learning interactions around simulating those real life examples. For example, lets say your learners need to perform a set of tasks in a particular order. Have the learners use a drag and drop to put those steps into the correct order.
Paul, I will always come to your videos first from now on! I have been trying to figure this out for a few days now. Thanks for these videos they are fabulous!
Hi Paul, The 'reset all' option won't work in one of my drag and drop questions? It is working for fine in the 'one to one' drag and drop, but the other is a 'one to many' question. I did have the dragables grouped, however I un-grouped them and check the reset option but it didn't work. I also tried a reset button but that didn't work either. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
It's difficult for me to know what the problem might be. I have organized all my drag and drop videos into a single playlist. There are 16. You can watch them all by clicking below. Maybe you might figure it out by seeing how I created some of mine. th-cam.com/play/PLAz1fjXAzQ37Eem_6VtA2hEgnV9EBWP_e.html If not you could always hire me to work on the problem for you. Let me know if that makes sense or not but you could purchase an hour of my consulting time and I could help you with it. www.paulwilsonlearning.com/new-products/consultation
Thanks Paul, that's great, and would love to see you do a video on this. Also, forgot to mention, that when they get the answer wrong or partially correct, there should be a button that appears, which they press to reveal the correct answers and show a text caption with an expleanation. I think that should be easy enough with advanced actions though. Thanks again
+Luke Westwood I didn't see your follow up message until I was well on the way to preparing today's video. Hopefully you can get enough out of what I have created to adapt it to your specific needs. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/LPuRs-wYJ6Y/w-d-xo.html
Hi ! Fantastic video. I have included my Drag and drop in the quiz, do you know how to show a next button and/or the correct answer when you are in review mode ? Otherwhise the review mode isn't good for drag and drop interactions. Thanks !
+Marine Dubédat A drag and drop interaction is actually not a traditional quiz question but like any clickable object you can include these items in the evaluation. You could create a hidden object that provides the learner with a review mode explanation and use an advanced action to only display this object if the advanced action detects if the project is in review mode. Something like… IF cpInReviewMode is equal to 1 ACTIONS Show Review_mode_message ELSE Hide Review_mode_message
I have tried to to something like this, but whit the drag and drop I can not chose "on opening" and "on closing" actions, when do you trigger the action ?
+Marine Dubédat Click on the Properties Inspector and for slide properties, under the actions tab you should see an option to select On Enter. Unless you have already created an On Enter action you should see No Action. In which case simple select Advanced Action and you should be able to create what you need. Like I said you will be limited to simply displaying a caption or shape object but you can write whatever text you want in that object. Alternatively you cold create a diagram which depicts the correct answer and have it show this image as well.
I am creating tutorial which includes a Drag & Drop that simulates an application function that we are training on. There is only one drag source and it can only go to one location/answer. I have set to auto-submit the correct answer and move on to the next slide so that it mimics how the application functions. I have the drag source set to return to the original position if not dropped in the correct location. This part is working fine. Here is the issue: I would like to limit this to 4 attempts, at which point I want the last attempt action to be to jump to a failure slide where the user can restart the scenario, or re-watch the demo. I have tried limiting the attempts in the action properties, but is not working. I also tried making additional drop locations that covered all of the other areas of the slide, but same result. I also tried to add a failure message, but that is not popping up either. I appreciate any help you can offer!
Even though you have turned on auto-submit, that only works when you drag and drop to the correct answer. You still need a regular submit button to check where you have dragged your drag source. If you would like some one-on-one instruction on this, you can purchase an hour from my website, and we can meet online, and I can walk you through it. captivateteacher.com/how-i-can-help/p/1on1-training
Hi Paul, is there any way to make a partial correct answer option? I have a drag and drop with 4 options and 2 correct answers. I need it so if the user gets one answer correct, they get a separate partial correct feedback message. Keep up the great work.
+Making Training One way you could do this would be through the use of a variable. With each successful drag and drop add 50 to your variable. If they drag a wrong answer subtract 50. When they hit submit have an advanced action report "Correct. You got this question 100%" or "Partially correct. You selected at least one correct answer" or "Incorrect. you did not get this question right." Maybe I'll make a video about this.
Hi Paul, your videos are very useful. I have a question with regard to a drag & drop slide. On the slide the user needs to select 10 items out of a list of 30 items and place it in a table. Once the 10 items are placed in to table, I want these 10 items to appear on the next slide. I want the user to be able to see their selection and then drag and drop 5 of these into another table as their top 5 options. Is this feasible and how? Would really appreciate your help.
Perhaps what you could do is assign the 10 items selected from the first slide into individual variables. On the next slide have 10 smart shapes display those variables one by one. You can then store the five selected into a different set of 5 variables to be displayed on a third slide as their top 5 options. This would work but I'm unsure how you would determine if the items are the correct answer or not.
Thanks Paul for your suggestion. Since there are no right or wrong answers, this should work. The items are values and we are helping them narrow down their choices in a step by step process. How do I make the 10 selected options as variables? Do I select the placeholders for these options?
I wish this was a case of simply explaining in two or three steps. This could be the most advanced drag and drop that I've ever created but in my mind, I'm 100% confident that I could put this together in about two hours. If you would like to purchase a couple of hours of my time from my website I would be very willing to build you a mockup and using Skype or Join.Me I could walk you through it. Here is where you can purchase two hours of my time if you're interested in taking this approach. www.paulwilsonlearning.com/new-products/consultation
As I understand it, drag & drop is not available for mobile devices. Is that so? Would it work if you made the item and drop location smaller than 360px in total?
there is nothing to prevent drag and drop from working within mobile but you would need to consider the real-estate of the mobile device screen for sure.
Hello Paul. I'm working in Captivate 9 and using the system failure and success messages. I notice the messages only stay on the screen for a few seconds, unlike with quiz question feedback that stays on the screen until I click anywhere to continue. Do you know a good work around to make the feedback work like quiz questions?
Yes, I am following that process and the one in the video you provided but the reset doesn't reset the drag targets back to their original place and the submit button doesn't seem to be recognizing what is correct or not correctly dropped on a drop target. Not sure what is happening
Hello Paul. I have the submit button working now, but the reset button hides the feedback message, but it does not reset my drag targets back to their original location when clicking reset. I used the same process you used in the video, but they don't go back. Am I missing something?
No. To my knowledge this cannot be done. You certainly can copy the content from one slide to another but I don't believe there is an easy one button solution to this problem.
You should watch my other drag and drop videos. I have an entire playlist dedicated to this function of Adobe Captivate. Check it out with this link: th-cam.com/play/PLAz1fjXAzQ37Eem_6VtA2hEgnV9EBWP_e.html
Great video! I have a question: I created a Drag and Drop and included it in my quiz. I have the correct and incorrect captions and everything works beautifully. The Drag and Drop is part of a larger quiz with other normal questions (multiple choice, etc.). The problem I have is when the user gets the Drag and Drop wrong and also ends up failing the quiz. I am having them retake the quiz but the drag and drop does not reset like the other questions. When they arrive at that page the slide already shows the wrong caption/button. I tried adding an advanced action that hides those captions upon enter, but it doesn't work. Any help??? Thanks!
