*I'm always happy to point you in the right direction regarding questions about Adobe Captivate. If you need more than a simple question answered, you can purchase a one-hour one-on-one session with me at **bit.ly/Cp1on1**. If you only use some of that time, that's okay. You can bank any unused time (15-minute increments) for future sessions. For example, if you use 30 minutes, you can use 30 minutes later.*
If you try to duplicate this slide within the same project it won't work but if you save this project as a single slide by itself and then copy and paste from that single slide project into other current projects it will. Then all you need to do is replace the pictures with something else and perhaps change the order of the picture answers.
icar lubigan basically you need a reset button with an advanced action that returns everything to normal. In other words, sets the condition and the values back to what they were when the learner first arrived on the slide.
Thanks Paul for the great video. I have a question regarding this video. If I want to have multiple correct answers for this type of question, what should I do? I tried to change the advance action by adding one more variable which is equal to 1, but it does not work. Maybe you can help me? It would be great. Thanks!
Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for and couldn't find the answer on Adobe Captivate website. Can I use this in all my quiz questions and it will count as correct/not answers in a way that will send me (the teacher) the report afterwards? Also, can I use this in branching according to correct/not answer? Thank you!
I try to avoid custom solutions for final assessments and tend to use them for practice questions. You can use them for branching scenarios if you like.
Paul, I like your videos! I do not have a State View for my buttons like I have seen in your videos. I'm using Captivate 8. I assume you are using 9. How do I change the states without the State View?
To do the same thing in Captivate 8 you would need to use image buttons with rollover and down states. Take a look at this video if you would like to learn how to make them. th-cam.com/video/FbQ1gJdiVPE/w-d-xo.html
Hello Paul. In general; nice specific Captivate tutorials. Since you have quite a few videos i not sure if i missed one answering my question, yet im still going to ask: if you make custom quizes like the one in this tutorial, how can you give it a score at the end of it that can be read by an LMS like moodle?
Im new to adobe captivate so im not sure if this score will be imported into moodle. thanks for the answer :) Do you by chance have a tutorial about how to modify a normal quiz-preset of captivate? For example if I chose a normal True/False Quiz Preset, is it possible to exchange the "True" with a green button and keep the functionality?
I offer a premium course that includes that level of customization. However, I recommend it for intermediate to advanced users. If you're new and have a tight timeline for your first or current project, you may wish to stick with the basics for now. If you decide to tackle this, you can purchase this course at a discount from here: www.udemy.com/adobe-captivate-2017-responsive-custom-quiz-questions/?couponCode=CP2018DISCO
Hey Paul, is it possible to use this function when you have two possible correct answers? Right now, I'm trying to use this but it seems as though if I choose either of the supposedly correct answers, the incorrect feedback shows up instead of the correct feedback.
Hi Paul, Thanks for this video, I am having good success with this tutorial. The only thing I can't see is my quiz score slide. I have added the correct feedback to the quiz. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Appreciate any feedback, Jayne.
Last question on this ... if I have more that one question in my quiz using this format, would I need a separate submit advanced action for each question. For example submit2_2 submit4_3 ?
Using this tutorial as a guide, I would say yes this is the only way since the submit button and it's advanced action creates the feedback and the navigation away from this slide...but anything is possible if you have the time.
You would need to store each click under several variables, one for each object. Write a conditional action that runs the correct actions when the two in question are true and the remaining items are not true.
Hi Paul, when I set the Submit button with conditional actions, it shows only the correct message and the "Else" actions do not work. I set as "else" show incorrect message and try again button..I cannot find out why..thank you very much
Without seeing more detail I cannot answer this question. You could purchase my course on creating custom question slides. It's available here: www.udemy.com/adobe-captivate-2017-responsive-custom-quiz-questions
Hey there, I guess this isn't the right place to ask that, but I have no clue where should i put my question at... So I want to make the following task: for example let's say we have 6 pictures - 3 pairs (2 identical + 2 identical + 2 identical). You should be able to click on each picture to match the pairs. Once a pair is matched the pics get highlighted or moved to specific place on the screen. Is this doable on Captivate? Hopefully you understand what I mean and thanks a lot in advance for your help!
There are a number of different ways you could do this. Probably the easiest way would be to use a drag and drop interaction where you match each item together. If you want to click on one and then the other that would involve writing some advanced actions (scripting language) to make that work but like I said there are a number of ways to do this.
Thank you for the quick reply. I still can't figure how could I make it work with drag and drop since I want it to be a little more complex. So I have them 6 pictures (3 pairs) and let's say we have 6 drop targets. And let's say the drop targets are 2 in a line for each drop pair, so we have 3 lines x 2 drop targets for all the 3 pairs. Let's say pic 1 and pic 2 are the first pair, pic 3 & 4 - the second, pic 5 & 6 - the third. Then the drop targets on line 1 are originaly the drop targets for pic 1 & 2, but I don't want only 1 possible way to drop the drag sources, like for example pic 1 & 2 to be dropped only to line 1, pic 2 & 3 to line 2, pic 5 & 6 to line 3. Is it some how possible if you first drop pic 3 to line 1's first drop target (which is originaly a drop target for pic 1, this to be accepted as a right answer and then the line 1's second drop target to become a drop target for pic 4 and so on, and so on. I hope you understand what I mean and could give me a tip how can I do that. Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks again in advance!
george sohulov, This is a little more advanced than I can answer in the comments of my TH-cam videos. Hello Paul. Love your videos. Question about this one. I've built this twice now and the second time around I'm running into an issue with reporting. Is there any reason why a learner shouldn't get to use the "retake quiz" button? The second time around I used the video option to have a video play with the question. They have to watch it and assign a score. For some reason, I have at least one confirmed learner that answered the question right, but the quiz results screen said 6 questions out of 6 questions correct, but they got a 50%. I've looked at the code over and over and can't see why that would be happening. I thought it was worth a shot to ask you. Thank you in advanced for any insight.
+MICHELLE LUCARELLI I generally don't give my users an option to simply retake the quiz, however could be added. You can turn on retake quiz from the Preferences window SHIFT+F8. The key thing is that on enter of this slide you will need to write an advanced action that reverses all the changes your question makes (change the state of your buttons back to normal and hide you feedback captions and mask). I don't know what you mean about video as this tutorial doesn't use one. For troubleshooting scoring problems check out my video on that topic. I don't have a link handy but if you search for Adobe + Captivate + troubleshoot + quiz that video should show up.
I do have the slide set to reset and hide feedback and return each button to 'normal'. I'm at such a loss. I have 2 questions that are stock quiz questions from Captivate and then I built 4 like you have. I can't figure out if it's the combination of the two together that's causing an issue. It's weird because they will get a 6 out of 6 correct, but a 50%. Which doesn't go with the 2 stock quiz and 4 custom. Why would only 3 of the 4 custom be problematic. And it doesn't do it to all users.
Takata Science if it was easy then the stakeholders wouldn't need us to build them. But you get faster with building these sorts of interactions over time.
@@CaptivateTeacher Wow, you want it to be difficult to secure your work? How sad. Your expertise as a Learning Professional should secure your work, not your ability to use an annoying software package.
You might want to consider a more basic authoring tool such as Articulate Rise. We are expecting a new release of Captivate that will include picture questions but for the time being this is how I would build such an interaction.

Awesome video, Paul. Any tips for repeating these steps across multiple slides? (say, 5 of these types of questions as opposed to 1). Thanks!

icar lubigan basically you need a reset button with an advanced action that returns everything to normal. In other words, sets the condition and the values back to what they were when the learner first arrived on the slide.
@@CaptivateTeacher Oh thanks! will try that. Btw, your videos were great and really helped me doing e-learning here in the Philippines.
@@icarlubigan Thanks for watching.
There must be a way to duplicate the advanced actions for each picture and make minor adjustments. I can't seem to figure out how
Takata Science you can save your advanced actions as shared actions and reduce the amount of condition actions.
