    *I'm always happy to point you in the right direction regarding questions about Adobe Captivate. If you need more than a simple question answered, you can purchase a one-hour one-on-one session with me at **bit.ly/Cp1on1**. If you only use some of that time, that's okay. You can bank any unused time (15-minute increments) for future sessions. For example, if you use 30 minutes, you can use 30 minutes later.*

    This is a very instructionally sound approach to M/C answer feedback. I had done it in Captivate several years ago, at least I thought I had and forgotten how. Thanks Paul, a very good one. Be nice if you did advanced versions of some of your videos, you are so very thorough, which new users are sure to appreciate. I often find myself skipping ahead to where the "meat" because I know it is always there. Keep it up.

      I'm going back to answer older questions not just for the original person but for others who read these questions today. One of the challenges for me is finding that balance of teaching to different levels with one video. Some people need more context than others so I try to keep it as short as a topic needs to be but still include the background. Thanks for watching.

    Using a single variable is a little bit more efficient. In your action on each page entry, simply increment the variable by one. In the conditional action IF variable is greater than or equal to four, show button.

      It depends on a number of things. First, what type of video are you adding to this slide?
      *Event Video* has its own playbars that you can add from the Properties Inspector
      *Slide Video* (formerly known as Multi Slide Synchronized Video) can use the same play bar as Adobe Captivate or you can create your own controls using the actions found in the Actions tab of your button's Properties Inspector
      Internet video placed in a *Web Object* is more difficult to control but you might be able to do something with JavaScript commands.

      @@peter71641 I think when people learn that Adobe Captivate can publish out to iOS or Android, they assume its a good mobile app development tool. If I was going to make an eLearning course for a client who primarily wanted to distribute it from a learning management system but also wanted to publish it as an app for the small percentage who don’t have access to the company’s LMS, I think that would be fine. But if I was tasked with developing an exclusive Android or iOS app to function solely as a standalone app, I would use the tools that are available for proper app creation. In other words, Android Studio or XCode for Apple.

      @jenniferrumfieldlandau1123 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense! However, what if I took the tabs and changed them into a menu with button 1, button 2, button 3, & button 4. Each button jumps to a section. Such as button 1 goes to section 1. There will be a back button that jumps back to the menu. I would like the users to be forced to go through each section in order and at the end section for they will have a continue or next button. Once they watch all sections they are free to view the sections in any order. Any ideas?

      +Jennifer Rumfield 9 would be ideal because you could have multistate objects do most of the work for you. I should have said on Slide 1 (tab 1) you would disable the ability to click on slide 3 and 4, obviously they should be able to click on the next tab and so on. Once the user gets all the tab visited you can then use the same actions and variable to reveal the button like demonstrated in the video.

    Dear Mr. Wilson,
    great video!
    I've seen some of your Adobe Captivate tutorials and have a question about Adobe Captivate. I noticed you are an Adobe Captivate expert and it would be great if you could answer my question(s). Thank you in advance.
    So here are my question(s):
    Is it possible to add buttons to quizmaster slides? All buttons I want to insert are blocked. I need this button on the result slide of the quiz to set a button "Quit quiz" to end the module.
    I also added a button to repeat the quiz. This also works, but exactly the same quiz questions are asked again. However, I would like other questions from the question pool to be asked. (I have already set up 3 question pools: Easy questions, medium hard questions and hard questions. These questions are also all set up on random question slides. If you click on "Repeat Quiz", it would be great if other questions from the respective question pool also appeared and not always the same ones.
    I would be very happy if you could answer me and maybe even help me.
    Best regards,

    Hi Paul, Great video!
    I am attempting to recreate what you've done here but instead of moving to different slides I want to keep it all on one. I've managed to get most of it working but I cannot get the Next button to show! Any ideas?

    • @CaptivateTeacher
      @CaptivateTeacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the time that I recorded this video I was using *Adobe Captivate 8*. If you wanted to create a single page of tabbed content you would have to write an advanced action that was a series of *show / hide* scenarios. I find these a pain in my behind so I generally went with the easier approach of creating multiple slides for each tab. Another reason I would use multiple pages is because of the narration. While you can record separate narration for each *show / hide* situation, this would be asynchronous and therefore not compatible with *Closed Captioning* which is something you would need to be accessible or 508 compliant.
      Today I would do things much different. Today I’m using *Captivate 9*, which now has multi state objects and therefore it would be much easier to have all these pages on a single slide, like what you want to do. You can do with *Captivate 8* it by writing your advanced action to have a series of *show / hide* advanced actions but I never enjoyed creating those. Here is a video where I did something similar for another viewer, however I may create a new video on this topic at some point.

      Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I'm using Adobe Captivate 9. I've used show/hide and everything works accept for the Next button.
      Once I've clicked on the three items on the screen that I need to I expected the next button to show, (i've used the same advanced action that you use in your video here and applied it to 'On Enter', as you've done. I can keep clicking on the items with the show/hide as many times as I like but the Next button refuses to show.
      I'll have a look at the video you suggest.

      Part of the reason I create these videos so that I don't have to explain these procedures over and over again. Like I said above, it's difficult for me to know what's not working for you without seeing what you have done or not done. My suggestion would be to watch the video another time and make sure you have followed all the steps. Certainly watch from around the 14-minute mark or so to see how I apply the advanced actions for each to the tab buttons across the top of each page.

    Thanks, Paul. This is very instructive. I'm trying to hide a button until an animation has run (it's a quiz, and so is not time based). I don't want the user to be able to click past the animation, but can't work out how to do it. Any suggestions?

    • @CaptivateTeacher
      @CaptivateTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This might be surprisingly simple a solution but why not have a blank slide that contains the animation just before the question slide. Don't have any navigation controls on the animation slide except maybe a replay button and perhaps a back button on the question slide if the learner would like to watch the animation again.

    • @lindycarter3001
      @lindycarter3001 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Paul Wilson eLearning Development Thanks for the quick response Paul. I didn't give enough information about the animation. It's a self-contained swf file. The user needs to find 12 relevant objects on an office desk. As each object is clicked a callout confirms it. When all 12 are selected a congratulations box appears. I've had to add the Action Pause on Entrance or it goes straight through to the next slide. Then no matter what I put on Exit nothing happens. I tried making a Next button appear at the end of the animation, without success. I can only make it appear from the start, which would allow users to not use the animation. Is there anything else you could suggest? BTW, I'm Australian, and I really like your voice!

    • @CaptivateTeacher
      @CaptivateTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lindy Carter So this sounds like a very specific example of an evaluation. I could make some recommendations but I still feel I don't know enough about this. If you wish to email me the details I would be happy to consider it further.
      That said, if you have all the images that make up the SWF animation, why not import them as images into your Adobe Captivate project file. Perhaps you could use the objects to create a drag and drop or perhaps a hotspot question. Again, let me know what the animation does and what it contains and perhaps I can make a better recommendation.

      I have a premium (paid) tutorial that shows users how to create their own quiz questions in Adobe Captivate 2017 using the new Fluid Boxes features. If you ignore the Fluid Box portion of the course, this would teach you everything you need to make your own multiple choice questions that would contribute to your user's final score. The advantage is that you won't have to rely on the default way that Captivate 8 questions work. You can access it here if you want: th-cam.com/video/1Ewgg6527r4/w-d-xo.html
