  • I got called out to this van the night before. The family was a bit nervous as this is the vehicle they use to transport the entire family, as it's the only one they have that fits everyone. They were worried about the right side sliding door not latching, and a bungee cord was being used temporarily, while getting the van home. Still made the mother nervous because as the van would accelerate, the door would slide open. #Sedona #Kia #SlidingDoor

    I will be following along with this video when i replace the driver's side sliding door handle on my sedona. While trying to open it this morning the handle broke off. As with other automotive issues I have had I turned to youtube for info. TH-cam is full of useful info, once you get past the cat videos and people acting a fool to become famous in their own minds. Anyway, after watching your video I'm glad to see that while it will be a headache to replace it won't be an impossible diy chore.
    I totally agree it is great to have a helper. I don't usually have either of my kids helping me on our cars, but that is usually because they are in school, working on homework, or don't want them near for safety like when it is jacked up and the tire is off. But it is nice to have some their to hand you tools. My wife tries to help with that thankfully. Though she does not always know the tool I'm asking for she is learning them. I use to hate doing that for my dad, but now I am so glad he had me helping him. Even just being the gopher, you learn more than realize at the time.
    I would also like to say it is a nice change of pace to see a woman as the mechanic. So many people think when it comes to cars or anything involving tools that women's only knowledge about them is that they exist. You are a prime example of how car repair isn't just "men's work." I don't believe my dad was ever sexist, but there were times when he would say the car was fine or "i don't hear anything" or it was something else when my mom would say it was acting funny, she heard an odd noise or said the problem was this part instead of that part. Most of the time if their diagnosis disagreed, mom was right. To be fair, regarding him not hearing something, i think that was simply due to mom having the hearing of a bat. My wife and I both agree that we want our kids to be able to do this kind of work if needed. We have a boy and a girl and try not to put any kind of limitations on them based on that. We want them both to know how to do at least the basics of everything for when they are on their own, be it cooking or household maintenance or car repair. I am definitely subscribing to your channel for future automotive questions.
    There is one thing you didn't mention in your video that I'm very curious to know. How in the world do you complete an automotive repair without bleeding?!?!? Just about every time I work on a car, no matter how simple the repair, I end up scraping a knuckle or peeling skin back on a finger. Even with latex gloves on. I almost feel like the job is not complete if I'm not bleeding at the end.

    Nice work Cuba.
    If I may pass on a tech tip on the old school door clips.
    Use a shop Rag and work it like you are flossing the door handle pulling down on each side of the rag.
    It will pop that little clip down just enough to allow you to remove the handle.
    Those Sedonas we had alot of those door issues when I was at the dealership. The door would pop open driving down the highway.
    Rachel Faye was cheering you on btw. She loves you had your helper out there with you.
    Keep it up Cuba. You rock. 👊😎👍

    • @CubasAutomotive
      @CubasAutomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahhhhhh.. I like that! The flossing on the interior door handle, correct? That GM style clip? I have a tool for those too, but I was on site without my work truck, so I was lacking so many tools....😑😅
      Really? They'd fly open? Due to the latch end, I'm assuming? I don't like that plastic they put over them, on the jaws. I assume is to dampen the noise?
      So cute of Rachel to even watch!😆😆 I adore her, well the both of you. All the support! I appreciate the tech tips too!! 😊🤗🤗

      I own a tool for them i never use it. Lol a old tech taught me this trick and it's worked every time.
      Yes the rear latch would release and I believe it was an alignment issue.
      They never put a recall on them which I was surprised most were still under warranty.

    Do you think that it would be any easier to remove the interior locking/latch mechanism to access the inside of the exterior door handle? Thinking with larger hands, it will be nearly impossible to re-attach the small cable and tighten the mounting bolts.

    Is the process the same if the door latches and locks fine, it's just the exterior door handle that broke off?

    • @CubasAutomotive
      @CubasAutomotive  ปีที่แล้ว

      No dumb questions.... only dummies for not asking.
      Yes, the process is the same. Or very similar, if the plastic that holds the cable or the cable to open door breaks, then handle will not work either.

    What about the cable on the left? Not the one that goes to the exterior handle, not the one that is “l-shaped” and has a pinkish/peach color snap in part, and not the ball shaped one with the white snap/clip. It’s the one that’s to the left of all of that. In a oval shape with a square bottom. There is a cable there. I think it somehow connects, or runs through the black piece with the two small, silver screws. But I can’t figure it out

    Hey C.A'
    Question so my 2007 Kia Sedona's sliding doors on both sides seem to be doing the same thing not closing completely and making the door open light come on. In your best opinion without looking at the car. would you say the actuator motor on both doors are failing and need to be replaced. its like you have in the description from the client of this car. door will open randomly and not lock fully and tightly in place. I'm to gauge the cost to replace both motor actuators including labor. Tight budget + covid craziness going on right now.
    Thanks in advance if you can give me some idea of what to expect at a repair shop. God Bless and be well.

      Ahhh see.... I believe you have automatic or electronically controlled doors? My customer has the completely manual style. No switches or modules involved. So if that's the case, you have a different issue. In fact there is a TSB on this issue for the electronic type.

      @@orestino6212 these aren't the automatic or electronic doors, if that's what you mean. The actual mechanism is binding, the jaws have that plastic coating (and falling apart), so the jaws aren't opening all the way every time the door is opened (the plastic is getting stuck in the jaws). Then latches shut, on its own, not allowing the door to close once pulled to close. If I can express myself well enough.

    It's much easier if you move the door actuator out of the way. The handle is behind the actuator.

      Behind lock actuator? Curious.... so long ago, so many cars ago.... lol next time I'm working on that van, I'll have to check that out.

      I was searching for videos on door handles for 2012 Kia Sedona and saw your video. Getting ready to fix a broken handle when parts arrive.

    you're suppose to get all that handle uninstall from the inside and need to remove that door actuator so you have room .

    Thanks to the both of you for a great video. Well done! I think the poorly made cheap parts that are out there today are even going to get worse, and with more of them. Some of the automatic transmission replacement stuff is poop.

      You ate spot on Bill! I don't see an improvement anytime soon! I agree with the transmission parts, but I try to go OEM, unless I'm upgrading. I'll use TransGo, Superior, Sonnax, for aftermarket pieces...my

    Just a friendly suggestion to help you improve your videos. This would normally be a 8-12 minute video. 36 minutes is really long if someone is trying to learn how to do this repair. If I see 2 videos for the same thing I always look at the shorter one first to see if it is enough info to get the job done. Less is more I guess. Kudos that you are doing videos though, and repairing cars. Hope my suggestion helps for future videos. Hope you keep making them. Good luck

    Cuba, why are you still driving that old s-10? Why don't you treat yourself to something newer like a Colorado or a Tacoma.

    • @CubasAutomotive
      @CubasAutomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The S10 is perfect for my needs. No emissions needed, nothing wrong with it. Cheap to maintain. The bed is a good height, in comparison to others where I need to climb up or use a step ladder to gain access to anything in the bed. Less computerized things, so no modules or big money items to replace. I also don't want the payments.... or the higher car insurance payment. Lol

    Garbage video now I don't know what to do how is there no information on the internet on how to get the bolt out literally I've tried over 40 sockets everything I can possible think of and it won't move nothing even fits onto it theirs nothing that fits it like is it a special size how does nothing fit it

    • @CubasAutomotive
      @CubasAutomotive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry you didn't find it helpful. Not much I could do without the camera being in my way or my head or hands in the way of the camera. It's a 10mm head i think on the nuts.... if you're talking about the bolts of the handle protrude through the door. Some cheaper sockets have too much of a bevel and the bolt or socket has to be much farther in the socket before it catches. Grind off the face of the socket to fix that issue. Hope that helps. I get the frustration... this door handle was not fun.

      I have a 2007 Kia Sedona and I have to say it is way better quality and more reliable than the 1999 Chevy Tahoe that I used to have. Blown engine @115k miles. Thanks Chevy.
      I don't work for Kia and I prefer American made when possible but this vehicle is not what I would call junk. Just saying.
