You will constantly run out of pp, so you're gonna need a lot of leppa berries. 3. When you're doing the harvest skill swap/bestow and trick... trick, remember that only the caller has infinite pp. What happened to me was: i got a shiny beldum. I was not expecting there to be a small part dedicated to the corsola, the random pokemon i wanted to shiny hunt out of the blue. This was my first Pokémon game ever, and I never completed the Pokédex or anything. Finally going into the game and actually knowing what I’m doing feels crazy lol
My strat for this is use a Mon with Harvest that can learn Trick/ Bestow and Skill Swap, then use a Gardevoir holding a Leppa Berry to copy that ability for infinite PP on both ends. I also taught the Gardevoir Calm Mind, Double Team, and Growl to save healing items for long hunts (like Relicanth), with Psychic as the only attacking move.
Thank you for making a very easy and broken down step by step guide! There aren’t many videos on this method and the ones I’ve watched are a bit complex in their strategy. I appreciate you making this guide! ☺️

I just got into sos hunting too, already got oricorio, alolan meowth, crabrawler, and yungoos, working on pichu right now (for that chocolate raichu) and then salandit or alolan grimer! I just started late December 😁
Just got ultra moon recently thank god for this video I thought I was gonna have do the tedious work of getting the harvest ability Pokémon and all those other moves
S.O.S. chaining is the most brutal method, leave the caller mon one step from passing out, and knock out everyone who shows up to help and then abduct the shiny and leave the caller and allies for dead
Wonderful guide!! It has always been my favorite method to shiny hunt (: I’m currently trying to get the shiny Slowpoke line in Beast Balls! I wanted to mention that in your description, you listed Chansey as being a Pokémon with a call rate of 0. Did You perhaps mean Blissey? I use Chansey in SOS chains a lot to get EXP! Finally, I have a question that I’m still not really sure of… In terms of Cute Charm, does the Pokémon with the ability have to be on the field, or does it just have to be in the front of your party (fainted)? I saw a post *swearing* that the latter was true, but then saw *another* post swearing the former was lol… I’ve heard that Synchronize also works as long as it is the Pokémon in the front of the party, but I’ve never been 100% certain. Thank you!!
Something to note is that certain abilities like pressure, unnerve and intimidate will help it call a little more often than usual for certain Pokémon who don't call for help often
Chansey CAN call allies, especially when it has the potential chance to be a Blissey. Happened to me a few times when xp grinding on poni island chaining chanseys.
AMAZING video, i laughed and i cried (on the inside). what part of the video was cool? all of it. i liked the part where you were speaking. i like to describe my personal SOS shiny hunting method as HUUUAAAGGGHHHHHHH
My 3DS broke right before I could get far into the sun and moon games, I just recently started shiny hunting in sv and I really want to get a 3DS to use this method cause it’s my favourite
I shiny hunt in this game every day for the last 2-3 months. I’ve gotten quite a few shinies. My longest runs were over 1000 encounters. I got one at 680, 715, 1083, and 1630 which is super annoying because I have shiny charm. But on average I’m still below odds because I get a lot in less than 100 attempts sometimes. I wrote a program on my graphing calculator where you input the PP of the Pokémon and the pokemon Pokédex number and then it will find its call rate. Then you can input the call rate modifier (health color and orb) and you just push 2 buttons to keep track of turns and encounters and it will tell you when to switch to a new “caller” so there is two 99% chances that it will attempt to call before running out of PP. After I find a shiny, I hit enter and it stores the number of attempts and accumulated chances into a list.
i remeber seeing a guy's whose sos strat was to have trevanant switch its ha harvest and a leppa berry with the caller then switching to pangoro to kill the ally
hey man. found your channel, immediately subbed on yt and followed on twitch. I'm a grown ass man who recently got back in to pokemon, maybe I'll buy the newer games but until a new one gets released.
I've finally given shiny hunting in USUM a shot and i've already done SR legendaries. So im finally wanting to get around hunting for shinies like rockruff and beldum!!!
Aside from if you were chaining their base/baby forms, you can chain Chansey and Floette in USUM. I accidentally got Chansey and Blissey while chaining them to grind exp for some pokemon, and I chained for Floette in that one red flower patch on the 3rd island. It's difficult because of it's moveset, but it is possible
I’m quite late but thanks for the video! I’m trying to get a HA Cubone for a Rock Head Alolan Marowak to fire off recoil-less fire attacks. I’ve got a Mr Mime with role play, recyle and a Leppa berry so I can check every new cubone’s ability. Should I use a strong false swipe user until I’ve killed 30?
I got a shiny growlithe as my first hunt on my first ever playthrough within 100 encounters, 60 of those being starting chains as i learned. I'm now at 400+ roggenola encounters. I am now watching this video, not for educational purposes, but to reassure myself I'm not going crazy and that it will come soon. I'd love more videos, but tbh the downside of such an easy simple system is there isn't a whole lot to talk about, other than actual statistical analysis. I'd be curious what the 1/315 means in terms of time. What are the odds you spend an hour hunting? Two? 10? But that's tough to translate given how varied the time is between encounters.
I used my brother's copy of moon to look for a harvest phantump. Got a shiny at an 11, and am genuinely kind of upset because I feel like i ruined my odds! I just want my roggenrola and to play the darn game 😂😂 Oh, and no, I didn't find a harvest phantump before he wanted his game back. With needing a later game mon for entrainment and the tutors for the moves, I'm just gonna keep brute forcing it with a recycle megnamite with shock wave until my roggenrola sparkles. I'm so frustrated 😂 Idk how many encounters I'm at, but I soft reset when magnemite hits level 35, and I'm starting at level 20, and hit that mark twice, with a few resets sprinkled in for human error ending chains.
Does Curse Body breaks chains? I've been using my Marowak to try getting a shiny Pichu but I've passed through many turns that I've lost my count. Not only that, does unning yourself out of PP on one of your moves break the chain as well? Anyways, I did manage to catch a shiny Pancham before by following this guide and I gotta say that you are a life saver, thanks for making it possible to find my first ever shiny in a main series Pokémon game!!
I'm sorry, I actually have no idea! You could ask in my discord, people are much more informed than I am and would love to help out. Thanks for watching and congrats on the Pancham! ✌️
I can always tell if its Sun and Moon or Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon gameplay because every youtuber who plays the Ultra games have severely depressed Rotoms
Super helpful video, but one question. You said to keep KOing the Ally until the Caller is as low PP as possible. Why? Is there a reason you can't just KO the Caller after a bit to ensure you don't deal with a PP problem?
You have chansey listed in the description of Pokémon with a call rate of zero? I got a shiny chansey from chaning it? Or is the call rate upped with an adrenaline orb
I was like 8 when the 3ds released and had no clue of it’s existence but playing all the pokemon games now in 2024😂😅 they are really so fun though! Sad thing is, I got my 3ds A MONTH after Nintendo shut the servers down😭but it’s all good
I don't believe it's true but I can't find the answer anywhere: do evolved stages count for a chain? Example, if I'm chaining Pichu do SOS'd Pikachu add to my chain?
hey man thanks for the help! just a quick info: you wrote in the description that you cant sos chain pawniard nor goomy, but i saw a video of this guy chaining with bisharp as a caller and finding shiny goomy... how does that work? anwyays my first sos chained shiny will be called Oshie in your honor lol edit: nevermind i watched the video back and realised im dumb as rocks lol
thank you sir, im literally the only person i know that still plays these games (usum, sm) and now i know how to shiny hunt, yippe. also with the harvest alolan exeggutor does it have skill swap?
So I’m trying to fill out my Pokédex and I need all of the pokemon that you can only get through sos hunting. Specifically rn I’m trying to get a trumbeak to call for a toucannon on route 11 but even after I get my chain well past 30, he’ll only call for other trumbeaks. Is there any other information specifically for getting the caller to sos a different Pokémon?
Is there any truth to the idea of having a big Pokemon with a scary face out first means the target Pokemon will call more consistently? I seem to have way more luck with Pokemon that are tough to get to call consistently to actually call more consistently with Garchomp out. Might just be me though, lol!

I have trombork with harvest as a hidden ability but it doesnt get swapped if i do skill swap, what am I doing wrong?
we are closer to 2025 than 2023 now and I am watching ts 😭
@@poppin4926 2014 is only 4 months away
Thank you for making a very easy and broken down step by step guide! There aren’t many videos on this method and the ones I’ve watched are a bit complex in their strategy. I appreciate you making this guide! ☺️
@@_Yin_Taketani_ I appreciate you watching it, best of luck with your hunts!
this is definitely the best pokemon sos chaining guide ive seen. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH
Super simple, super concise guide. Thank you, king.
started watching this for a refresher on chaining, its definitely my favorite shiny hunting method. and it was a really good vid :)
was chaining basculin while watching this and got the shiny on a chain of 7 lol
seeing this in 2023 is the best
Very helpful, professional and to the point! Keep up the good work
Thanks so much Ven!
Next video had better be Hoothoot, I swear...
Thank you for posting this even if it was late, my future shiny pokemon thank you 🙏🏼
@@Elite_Champ_Keoni they're welcome
Thank you so much! Late but appreciayed! ❤
Found this video today and I'm so glad its from only 1year ago, so I can be sure the information are correct ^^ watching this vid now on repeat for extra luck while chaining :D
Good luck!
This is really helpful, I know I'm crazy late but I've just gotten into sos hunting so thanks!
I just got into sos hunting too, already got oricorio, alolan meowth, crabrawler, and yungoos, working on pichu right now (for that chocolate raichu) and then salandit or alolan grimer! I just started late December 😁
@@lissastargazer Congrats on the awesome shinies!
Look at this graph vine is classic
Just got ultra moon recently thank god for this video I thought I was gonna have do the tedious work of getting the harvest ability Pokémon and all those other moves
Just got a shiny riolu in less than 40 minutes using this method
Skill swap harvest on to the the caller then bestow it a leppa berry to get infinite chain going
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH that fucking opening physically made me yell. HOW?!
@@Cl00less I'm here for you, just let it all out
@@OshieMan that was actively a shock to the system i was like 11 when those games came out.
S.O.S. chaining is the most brutal method, leave the caller mon one step from passing out, and knock out everyone who shows up to help and then abduct the shiny and leave the caller and allies for dead
I appreciate this video, i looked everywhere to see if minior was sos chainable and could not find any answers
Finally, I have a question that I’m still not really sure of…
In terms of Cute Charm, does the Pokémon with the ability have to be on the field, or does it just have to be in the front of your party (fainted)? I saw a post *swearing* that the latter was true, but then saw *another* post swearing the former was lol… I’ve heard that Synchronize also works as long as it is the Pokémon in the front of the party, but I’ve never been 100% certain.
Thank you!!
1:02 Yeah I’m new I got the game in like July of this year
Something to note is that certain abilities like pressure, unnerve and intimidate will help it call a little more often than usual for certain Pokémon who don't call for help often
Intimidate is the most ideal due to Pressure’s PP consumption and Unnerve’s prevention of berry eating (leppa harvest strat negated)
HUUUAAAGGGHHHHHHH HUUUAAAGGGHHHHHHH HUUUAAAGGGHHHHHHH you have now chained a shiny
THANK YOU BTW
After I find a shiny, I hit enter and it stores the number of attempts and accumulated chances into a list.
i’m replaying the games and doing a shiny hunting challenge with a friend thanks for the guide
@@Wrrrenn Good luck to you both!
@ got a shiny noibat
Thank you SO much for the list... I was about to hunt for Wimpod. X__X Sad now.
Thank you! Watched this yesterday and in 2 chains I got my shiny Cubone
this will be very useful when i finally get that damn shiny charm
i remeber seeing a guy's whose sos strat was to have trevanant switch its ha harvest and a leppa berry with the caller then switching to pangoro to kill the ally
hey man. found your channel, immediately subbed on yt and followed on twitch. I'm a grown ass man who recently got back in to pokemon, maybe I'll buy the newer games but until a new one gets released.
this is still a great guide started yesterday and after a while i got a shiny bonsly
Me in 2024 hunting ekans right now ;) but thanks for the information
I'm SOS chaining as I'm watching this video
I completed the alola pokedex while watching this❤🔥❤🔥
True gigachad behaviour ✌️
Honestly sun and moon are some of the best games for shiny hunting just in general
that microphone quality sounding crisp
The cat ears give it extra HD per second ;)
also cute charm increases te chance of getting a pokemon from the opposite gender, so it's great for shiny hunting female salandit!
This is actually new info to me, I'll definitely be making use of that, thank you!
I found 2 shiny Bagon while trying to find a low level Salamence, then I relized that I was in the wrong grass patch for Salamence😂
I've finally given shiny hunting in USUM a shot and i've already done SR legendaries. So im finally wanting to get around hunting for shinies like rockruff and beldum!!!
Ok I'm watching this video and I look away for 5 seconds and I get a shiny smeargle
may need to pin but you can get a harvest bestow leppa berry skill swap eggxacutor to get an infinite caller
We returning to 3ds wit dis one!
Seeing this in 2024
Something to note is certain Pokémon can call for help but have higher chances that nothing will show up like dhelmise.
Anyway to fix that?
Man, i have had this game since it was realeasesd for a while and haven't gotten a legitimate for the video. I need it for my shiny only run
I just want my roggenrola and to play the darn game 😂😂
Oh, and no, I didn't find a harvest phantump before he wanted his game back. With needing a later game mon for entrainment and the tutors for the moves, I'm just gonna keep brute forcing it with a recycle megnamite with shock wave until my roggenrola sparkles.
I'm so frustrated 😂
Idk how many encounters I'm at, but I soft reset when magnemite hits level 35, and I'm starting at level 20, and hit that mark twice, with a few resets sprinkled in for human error ending chains.
@@OshieMan thanks for responding my dude, was not expecting that so quick xD
I'll join the Discord right now, thanks for pointing it out! 🐼🤟
I got a 200+ chain on Beldum but I still didn't see a single shiny :(
I'm sorry, Master Kenobi :(
@@OshieMan a suprise to be sure, but not a welcome one :(
@@Obi-Wan_Kenooobi A shiny Beldum would make a fine addition to your collection, but I guess it wasn't the droid you were looking for :(
@@OshieMan My collection is shorter than expected :(
Well it‘s 2024 and I‘m shiny hunting flabébé😂
I can always tell if its Sun and Moon or Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon gameplay because every youtuber who plays the Ultra games have severely depressed Rotoms
Super helpful video, but one question. You said to keep KOing the Ally until the Caller is as low PP as possible. Why? Is there a reason you can't just KO the Caller after a bit to ensure you don't deal with a PP problem?
Trying out the new method within a year of the game: 👎
Doing the method years after, so it’s fully understood: 👍✅✅✅
You have chansey listed in the description of Pokémon with a call rate of zero? I got a shiny chansey from chaning it? Or is the call rate upped with an adrenaline orb
I was like 8 when the 3ds released and had no clue of it’s existence but playing all the pokemon games now in 2024😂😅 they are really so fun though! Sad thing is, I got my 3ds A MONTH after Nintendo shut the servers down😭but it’s all good
So if the Pokémon doesn’t call for help during the chain at all it breaks the chain?
I don't believe it's true but I can't find the answer anywhere: do evolved stages count for a chain? Example, if I'm chaining Pichu do SOS'd Pikachu add to my chain?
Ok I checked the description and it says chansey has a chain rate of 0 but you can chain it
They need to release us/um on switch just so we can play it easier
Bro I started the vidio was like ah ratatada would be good first encounter full odds shiny so thanks for the help😂
hey man thanks for the help! just a quick info: you wrote in the description that you cant sos chain pawniard nor goomy, but i saw a video of this guy chaining with bisharp as a caller and finding shiny goomy... how does that work? anwyays my first sos chained shiny will be called Oshie in your honor lol
edit: nevermind i watched the video back and realised im dumb as rocks lol
Hunting for a fomantis. And it's annoying because they keep using ingrain and restoring HP
7:27 lucky
thank you sir, im literally the only person i know that still plays these games (usum, sm) and now i know how to shiny hunt, yippe. also with the harvest alolan exeggutor does it have skill swap?
So, does this mean my chain doesn’t reset at 255 encounters?
Not in usum they don’t
But they do in sun and moon
So I’m trying to fill out my Pokédex and I need all of the pokemon that you can only get through sos hunting. Specifically rn I’m trying to get a trumbeak to call for a toucannon on route 11 but even after I get my chain well past 30, he’ll only call for other trumbeaks. Is there any other information specifically for getting the caller to sos a different Pokémon?
I've tried getting an sos chain pokemon before and it didn't work, though I have gotten a shiny Magikarp and Sharpedo through chain fishing.
Nice, keep at it and I'm sure you'll pick it up!
So can I maybe do absol?? Like. How feasible is it in terms of low sos rates??
I just found a shiny gloomy on about 20th chain and it was my first encounter with gloomy 😅
Thank you so much! I got a shiny pichu 😅😅
So the information that shiny odds hit max at a chain of 75 and reset at 255 is incorrect?
As far as my research showed me, yes
Is there any truth to the idea of having a big Pokemon with a scary face out first means the target Pokemon will call more consistently? I seem to have way more luck with Pokemon that are tough to get to call consistently to actually call more consistently with Garchomp out. Might just be me though, lol!
