I Caught Every Shiny Legendary Pokemon from Kanto

- In today's video, I'm going to soft reset my game thousands of times until the Pokemon changes colour :)
I've never mentioned it on the channel before, but I've been a huge Pokemon fan ever since I can remember. My first memories of existence almost always include a gameboy in my hands running Pokemon Sapphire. However, the recent generations of Pokemon games never really scratched that itch for me. So 3 years ago I went back to gen 3 and tried my first ever shiny hunt to relive the games from my childhood. And I've been hooked ever since! Today I thought I'd share that with you all by catching every shiny legend and mythical from Kanto, I really hope you enjoy!
The first hunt started on April 4th and the last one was completed on April 17th. So this took MUCH less time than expected!
(also don't worry the mic is just temporary, still away from home on a different setup)

I haven't catch any either... I was lucky AND unlucky at the same time, once... While starting a run on Emerald, I got the uncatchable shiny Poochyena in the tutorial. Never seen another shiny since... Though, I haven't player a Pokémon game in ages... XD
In my first playthrough of emerald, I found a shiny pelipper and didn't know what a shiny was and wondered why it was green and thought it was to do with gender so I killed it 😢It took me so long to find out what a shiny was I might have killed more idk😅
I have hundreds, but it's still crazy. :D

Got shiny Lugia in SoulSilver a few months ago. Took around 3000 resets if I had to guess.

Just for reference. Yes you can sit in one place hunting for hours. My first shiny hunt was in platinum Eterna forest. And after 15,508 encounter nearly 72 hours of being there I found 1 shiny. Never deterred me from the hunt just made that shiny all the more special.
as another referance, I've been hunting Fennekin in gen 6 since May 2022 (on and off), and it has been a lot more then 72 hours. it can be long, but damn, it's so worth it

@@BellSH Good luck on your hunt! I've been hunting Oshawott since 2020 and I finally got it this year in March, 35620 total resets for it and lemme tell you, finally finding my little boy felt so darn good
@@Cearus1786 I'm not entirely sure, stopped counting in like early 2023 because it just destroyed my motivation on slower days, i had hit 12k by then though

As a kid I made my way to Faraway Island and got me the Mew since I never got one in Gens 1 or 2. It’s admittedly a hacked shiny, but I still bring him along each generation for the last 20 years. Even picked up the special mark for him for beating the Mewtwo in Violet.

My absolute favorite sequence of shiny hunts was my full odds Gen 7 Cresselia, appropriately named Blue Moon. Took over 13,000 resets, over 2 weeks.
Immediately after I got the shiny charm to reduce the grind and found a shiny Mewtwo in 7 resets, not even 2 days later.
7 resets?? Damn
Id love to see this for each generation man, i know that would be very very long and tedious but itd be cool :)

I remember as a kid I understood the concept of resetting for a shiny but not really how low 1/8192 is and after a day of resetting my sapphire for a shiny Torchic I gave up and cried.

That shiny squirtle reset hurt.
It hurt bad, and then it hurt even worse once I realized it was female. I had to do another 12k resets, but I got it again and somehow it was also female. So that trauma has been resolved now LOL.
@@Gungnir_ Crazy luck on that, and, congrats on reclaiming it! I still have yet to reclaim mine. I gave up a handful of encounters a few years ago, I got a shiny Weedle three steps into Viridian Forest. I went for it again but swapped to Bulbasaur instead, getting that in just over 100 encounters. So I guess it made up for the now Beedrill. Though, I haven’t had the greatest luck since.

It was definitely between the two. But since the red on shiny Zapdos is the central change in my eyes, I wanted to tie that in with the ball. So luxury was the only choice for me :)

I searched up "How to get Mew in Pokemon Emerald." The video was by Marcanine (you didn't hear it from me). There are a few different ways to do it, but this was the easiest for me. Also if you like to hunt on physical cartridges like myself, you'll need a GB Operator or a similar device to get your save file and rom onto your computer.

for those curious about emerald’s broken rng, basically emerald’s rng seed never resets, so you will always get the same exact pokemon if you have 2 encounters on the same frame. this can actually be used for manipulating shinies or perfect iv pokemon.

Meanwhile in a Pokemon fan game, yesterday I was hunting things in the Safari Zone and things had a 53% chance of fleeing. I kept track of 34 attempts in a row and failed at 27 of them. That's an 80% failure rate. I should have only failed 18-19 times in that many attempts. And that's not to mention numerous other streaks where I'd fail like a dozen times in a row at a 40-60% chance of success.

@@Rebel-hn9ly Nah, it was the idle game PokeClicker. (Which isn't as idle as you might expect when it comes to things like the Safari Zone which aren't idle at all.)

Are the earlier generations available on the switch? Or hdmi output on an old gameboy system?
Unfortunately you can't access any old generation Pokemon games on the switch at the moment. This video was recorded using a capture card I had modded directly into my DS. Alternatively you can also play them on a GameCube if you have the Gameboy player attachment and an HDMI converter.
Imagine these same odds but every encounter takes 1-5 minutes. Runescape is a hell of a game. I'm gonna get into shiny hunthing though.

As somebody that has 10k+ eggs hatched for 17 competitively bred shinies in Gen 6; My single shiny full odds Rhyhorn I caught while hunting for a lucky egg in FireRed means so much to me too. It’s a level 100 Rhydon now and is featured on my gen 3 sand team. It’s imperfect, with a MODEST nature. I love it all the same though. I EVed it for max Atk and SpA and taught it Tbolt :).
Also hunting for the shiny legends in gen 3, starting with the moltres !!

shiny hunting can be actual pain, I only once got extremely lucky and got shiny arceus after like 30 resets which is insane

Not doing an extra super fang to get them into red health is wild
I used a catch calculator to get them all under ideal conditions. Interestingly, damaging the legends to red health had no effect on their catch rate.

Absolutely gorgeous shiny, congrats! That was actually the first hunt I ever attempted in FireRed back in 2021. I ended up finding a Fearow though, and my first hunt being a phase for a shiny I'm not too fond of kinda put me off from hunting in the grass for a bit. So I hunted for Charmander instead, but haven't had the chance to go for Ponyta yet. Thanks for reminding me of that hunt, maybe I'll go back to that sometime soon!

Ahhh i remember not really knowing how to get shinies nor have i really tried to seek them out but the good times playing gen 4 and at the same time gen 3. I found a shiny ponyta and rydon in my pokemon Diamond. Also caught a shiny diglett and psyduck from fire red. Felt great and i still have those little guys in my poke home.
Rip to my cousins Raichu from fire red. Mysteriously vanished. Guess the data corrupted.
I feel bad for the people who only watch his Terraria content, they're just there for that game not here for Gungnir. He can make any game entertaining so they're missing out

Personally hunting all the kanto legends aswell, but i'm doing it in the lets go games because ive never seen that many people hunt in them and i wanna try something different. So far i've gotten mewtwo and articuno and have moved onto zapdos
edit: I actually just got a shiny latios through the max lair in the crown tundra yesterday aswell. These three are the only shiny legendaries ive ever gotten

You know I had that thought once I saw it randomly select a self damaging move like Take Down. There's quite a few scary ones it could have selected, but I figured the odds were low enough that I could quickly show off the transform mechanics. Would have made for a funny clip though (not in the moment ofc LOL).
