- This is just a small video showing some of the suspension mods on my rig. It uses alot of 3d printed parts which seem to hold up very well as it takes a beating. Sorry for the quality of the vid, at times my phone didnt seem to want to focus properly. Cheers.
these mods are now updated and on thingieverse.
www.thingivers... wheels.
www.thingivers... rear shock mount.
www.thingivers... front shock / body mount.
www.thingivers... steering servo mount.
Great Job... could you please share the link to the suspensions that u have used? P.S. i am curious if it would have been far different if you were only to use the stock suspensions by just cutting out some of the springs? thank you ....
Great video you have given me some ideas for mine.
Hi, i am in the middle of redesigning a few aspects of the mods as ive noticed that when the front suspension is depressed the diff casing hits the servo horn as the horn hangs down a fair bit. i am designing a whole new front plate that holds the steering servo virtually horizontal but gives enough room to remove the motor if needed. the upshot of that is that the suspension mount needs tweeking to reposition the shocks slightly further back. then i will put the stl files on thingieverse for you guys to print. this might be taking a few days tho. im also going to put up another short vid of the new mods with some 3d printed wheels to allow you to put some 1.9" wheels on.
Are you going to be selling the front and rear shock mounts? The design is very clever. Thanks!
Hi jim, i am going to release the files on thingieverse once i have finished tweeking the design. cheers, scott.
yes, i am going to put the files on thingieverse once i have finished tweeking the design. i am also going to do another short vid of the new designs but it all might take a few days. cheers, scott.
Those are some really nice mods Scott. Combining the upper shock mount with body mounts is clever. Everyone seems to agree that, out of the box, the tires and suspension on these trucks are much too stiff to make the truck a viable crawler. I found it interesting that after removing two leafs, you've retained the coil springs with the shocks. Have you considered removing the coils in order to allow greater articulation? Also, are you planning to swap-out those stock rock-hard tires for something with better grip?
Hi ixlr8, yes, im waiting on the new tyres (austar 4020's) which i will mount on some 3d printed wheels and will also experiment with using wheel weights to see if i can gain more traction on the steep inclines. the original tyres are not as bad as i thought they would be, they are alot softer and grippier than the original tamiya tyres and hold up quite well but they were never designed as crawling tyres, really they are monster truck tyres but i have to put up with them until the new ones turn up. i kept one leaf spring in so as to allow maximum articulation as the axles are clamped to the leafs which means when the suspension is articulated the leaves are actually twisting to allow the articulation, alot of people do the 'o' ring mod on trucks with leaf springs to stop the twisting but the way the axles are clamped on this truck means i cant do that. i added the shock springs just to assist the leaves as the truck is very heavy and struggled to rebound at all without them. cheers.
no you can not spoil bruiser with cantilever and springs! 🙈 you kill realism! 😥
How long was the front shocks ?
not much help to anybody unless you have and are able to do 3d printing ??
how much?
