Appaloosa Hill Nords are strange
at the surface, you would think they would meet as honorable warriors, in peace, but only one of them was hoorable. ulfric issued a challenge that torryg could never have faced, knowing full-well that it would mean him killing his lifelong friend, and sending skyrim into an incredibly bloody war. all for a vanity title, and a false god. he didnt even let torryg die with a weapon in his hand, shouting away his sword as the fight began. nothing but a power-hungry coward.
and before you go and challenge me claim that talos is false, im not questioning his power. im questioning his right to that power, and his deserving-ness to be worshiped. if you are at all familiar with the lore of talos, and his dragon-break, then you will know that there are 2 true stories about his life. one: the great hero. the one he advertises. and 2: the assassin. the traitor. the murderer, and the usurper. the dragon break made both of these histories true. but which one came first? which created the other? he created the dragon-break himself. he had total control over every aspect of the new history. so heres my challenge: why in oblivion would he create a second past where he was a slimy coward, and traitor? he never would, because thats not the one he created. he could never control that history. never change it. just try and replace it. with something that had a better... ring to it.

as for the other issues, the lore im describing is NOT ambiguous. people who were THERE describe the event. people who knew, personaly, deeply, both the victim, and the assailant. yes, perhaps it could be a propoganda thing, but they had their story straight the INSTANT that ulfric was running from the guards. besides, the propaganda piece was that ulfric just walked in and murdered him. you hear that one all over the place, but only eye-witnesses tell the duel story. and dont even TRY to deny that they were freinds. if your talking about my deduction of the original timeline in the dragon-break, then you, my freind, have a problem not with me, but with logic.

@@TheDestati True, but they seem mostly lost and afraid more than anything. Alduin's mist seems to have some kind of effect on the souls that makes them become confused and turned around. They barely know where they are, least alone who stands in front of them. Galmar is just so headstrong and pissed that it doesn't matter but he can't fix the situation so he just wanders around the mist angry xD

You'd think being here in Sovngard with Ulfric would lighten Galmar's view of you at least a little.
He is at least eight times more war-crazy than anyone else in the entire northern half of Tamriel.
Well you the player personally kill most if not all of his friends. You then proceed to obliterate his dream far worse than vermina herself could have done and to top it all off. You kill him and his liege within moments of each other and just when he thinks he's free you pop up.... In sovengarde as one of the biggest personal fuck yous possible in gaming.
Since you not only kill him. But you are the only reason he gets to shor's hall by casting down alduin. So yeah he's going to be bitter.

According to Nordic creation myth, the Nords were created *in* Skyrim when Kyne breathed life into it via the Throat of the World, they just migrated to Atmora at some point afterwards. This is supported by lore introduced in The Elder Scrolls Online, which heavily implies if not confirms that man and mer used to be one race, but evolved along different paths as the ones who would become the races of men migrated away from Tamriel to other lands while the ones who would become the races of mer stayed behind. Similarly, Khajiit maybe used to be a race of mer as well, as it's been suggested by in-world sources that they evolved from the Bosmer. The only ones who aren't related to mer and men are the Argonians and the Sload, who were likely created by the Hist to serve it.

really, I had to mod the music out cause it was so boring and didn't compliment the world at all.
Even though I sided with the Empire, meeting Ulfric Stormcloak made me feel so good. He was a true nord and fought for his cause, I've always respected the rebels even if I didn't agree with them.
Same, after completing the civil war, I thought it was the last time I was gonna see ulfric(alive...you get the idea), shit got intense when I recognized him in the distance and then I got hella mad when he got caught by alduin

Ulfric Spent his whole life being educated and peaceful, his final words truly show how he now sees how empty it all really was.
I believe its a bit deeper than that, remember that Alduin is just a part of nature, the fact that you defeat him is only cuz he was weakened by straying from his path as world eater. Its implied that the gods want Alduin dead so that they can one day bring him back to end the Era as he should. Him being a man who spent so much time studying the old world and different philosophies i believe Ulfric saw this, and regrets shedding blood against his own nation, using his sword instead of his words, for in the real long run, it was all pointless.
Pretty much, It is said that there has been many worlds, or Kalpas as they call it. But then Alduin found Skyrim and the humans treated him like a god, he really liked this and decided to stay and never ended the current Kalpa. Since he was flung into the future his motivations didn't exactly change so he was just planing to do it all again, but unlucky enough for him he was sent to a time where an embodiment of Shor lives, and is also the Dragonborn, which a weakened Alduin had no chance against.
It's no "theory", Paarthurnax tells you to your face, and the Grey Beards confirm it in the end xP Though the Shor embodiment is defiantly debatable, i just always thought that Shor not being in Sovngarde confirmed that you are "him", more or less.
Yes, Talos is a confirmed embodiment of Shor, so if you believe that the newest Dragonborn is Shor, then you also believe he's Talos, but you're more just living up to the legend of Talos, his souls not reincarnated in you or anything, since Talos ascended with the Aedra.
indeed xD lol let me put it like this, Talos was his own man, But had the spirit of Shor with him, so when he died Talos became one with the Aedra and Shor went on to his next body.

it's interesting how Ulfric almost regrets his rebellion knowing the ultimate fate of so many of those lost in his struggle, while Galmor remains defiant, unable to see past his ideals
no he only regrets because Alduin appeared during it. Had there been no Alduin he would've not regretted. It wasn't about ideal it was about timing.
He regrets that Alduin is killing the soldiers that fought under him, he still knows that his rebellion is justified.

Not really, Sovngarde is just a small piece of Aetherius that Shor has taken for himself, inside there he deposits the souls of those worthy and willing, so they may be reborn in the next Kalpa to fight for Lorkhan in the Dawn era. Any mortal regardless of race can enter Sovngarde as long as he is worthy and actually wants to go there after he dies.
Only Nords and Atmorans are BORN with the right to enter Sovngarde upon death, but any race that is worthy and willing can enter, take the avatar of ebonarm (the ebony warrior) for example.

Except virtue doesn't get you there. Dying in combat does. Just like Valhalla, you can be a complete monster, but prove that you're a good warrior and Odin-I mean Shor-will select you for his army. I can only guess that Torygg is in Sovngarde because he put up a hell of a fight despite facing a former legionnaire with an enchanted axe and the power of the Voice.

if they both died at the same time, Ulfric probably won't go to Sovngarde.
It never made sense how if Ulfric made a legal challenge and Torygg accepted and lost, how any of it could actually be a rebellion originally.
you can find even more people as you complete more questlines. Eg if you complete the one given by the bards college in solitude, you will meet olaf one-eye, talking about the guy who gave you your quests.

I like how Sovngarde suddenly is like an old epos.
Gives you the feel that the game is like a collection of countless legends and stories mixed with historical facts about the person who is said to be the Dragonborn themself. That's why you can be anything you want from the master of the Thieves Guild to the Harbinger of the Companions and that's why you pull off godly feats in one part, then get beaten by numbers alone in another.
Entering Sovngarde is like the part of a book that was copy-pasted from old Nord songs and writings. No wonder everyone speaks poetically and the grand figures of the time period all show up lamenting about stuff from bad life decisions to "that fog is too damn thick".

@@TheDragonCat99 i think they didn't do that because that would mean that the stormcloaks have lost against the empire, but i think the canon will be a stormcloak victory/downfall of the empire so bethesda couldn't do that in order to have a legit elder scrolls lore.

Ulfric seemed to recognize you. He was just more focused on realizing that, while his intentions might've been noble, the Civil War he started might not have been worth it. Especially since it gave Alduin time to start the Dragon Apocalypse.
If you do all the quest lines before doing the main quest, then this is such a satisfying ending, seeing all the characters you’ve encountered throughout the game and being able to talk to them.

I wish they made the characters you met before more connected to the dragonborn. Like I wish you could say "you will be missed" or something like that or tell them how all their old former friends are doing back in the real world, talk about memories, etc. Instead they don't have much dialogue and they don't act surprised to see you whatsoever. It's as if you never even met them lol.

I guess since Sovngarde is an Aedric realm, they have more control over souls than Planes of Oblivion with no proper Daedric Lord to rule them.
Shor really needed those souls.
Because Sovngarde is a small pocket of the Dreamsleeve, which is where the sleeping minds of the dead are shuffled out and recycled to and from Aetherius.
Essentially, everyone in the TES universe is a puppet in a sleeping God's dream, and my extension many factors of the universe mirror the events and memories of the Sleeping Anu. Dreams are a powerful thing, and the being you meet in Sovngarde aren't necessarily the souls of the dead, but rather the collected dreams of those people that still view themselves as part of the Dream of Sovngarde.
So while the "soul" of Ulfric may dwell in your weapons, the "dead dream" of Ulfric dreams itself in Sovngarde.

Seeing the mighty and brave Ulfric Stormcloak, scared and lost in Sovengard was so strange. The man who preached about freedom and bravery for Skyrim now lost and weary in the mist of what all Nord's sought to be paradise is an experience like no other.

I've been watching a fair bit of skyrim content lately and genuinely heard a guy call the daedric lord hircine "Hear-sign". I wanted to kill myself or the content creator at that very moment. Worst part is the guy is a big skyrim youtuber and most of them butcher half the pronunciations even though most of them are said clear as day within the game. Another example comes to mind being "fal-kree-uth" its like dude plz.... how hard is it to say "ful-kreeth"?

I’m glad to see that Ulfric is humbled in Sovngarde. He may very well have realized that the conflict he started only fueled Alduin’s power and sent countless of his men to their doom. He respects the Dragonborn, despite him being the one to end his life and his dream of a free Skyrim.
I understand a lot of the Stormcloaks’ grievances and I believe them to be overall honorable warriors but Ulfric as a person is power hungry and warmongering and can’t see that, considering the circumstances, a united Empire is the only way the North can defeat the Dominion.

Free skyrim was just to get people to rally under his desire for power. It's presumed to be why the protagonist has no fate, at least not until we stop controlling them; it's also possibly why we even control them. If you don't know what mantling is, it's an interesting lore study. In-universe, you can essentially become an entity by doing as they would. The protag of Morrowind had the potential to become the Nerevarine, but only did so after trying to relive his life. So becoming the Shezarrine is to become the self-aware being at fault for all the world's chaos, but also the one who sets it right.

@@TheDestati I think all your points are highly valid. The Nords do place immense emphasis on tradition and they value their lifestyle greatly. And this is robbed from them by the Thalmor. The Empire's appeasement of the Thalmor would have caused huge frustrations and meant great compromises. Even General Tullius admits that he understands Ulfric's anger.
But during the Stormcloak ending, Ulfric says he's going to wage a Total War policy against the Thalmor after taking Solitude. The Thalmor are essentially the real bad guys in all of this, the Nazis of the Elder Scrolls world. The Empire tried to fight them before, got their arses handed to them. They are a formidable threat - one that would take a united effort to defeat. Ulfric tears Skyrim into two and then wants to wage a war against two enemies - the Empire and the Thalmor. Just from where I sit, it's impractical and honestly bigoted and egotistical on his part. Three things a good leader simply can't be. He may have some moral justification but he's a strategic and political idiot.
If you steal Elenwen's journal, she admits that a Stormcloak victory is kinda what the Thalmor want - to weaken the Empire further and strengthen the Elves' chances of world domination. The Empire makes its mistakes for sure - but they are the barrier against the real enemy.
When i got to sovngarde, i scaled the hills and went straight to tsun, then defeated alduin i did, so the stormcloak soldier made it safely
