Putting a field into a cover crop supporting pollinators is a great idea. You are on the flyway for the monarch butterflies. Nice to attract the ground beetles and ladybugs to name a few beneficial insects. Great to start up an apiary if any of the ladies of the family wanted to try it. Or perhaps try some of those 60 inch corn with a cover crop to capture carbon as discussed on those podcasts. 🍁👍😎
Man that little girl is way smarter than you are 🤣 Must be a wonderful feeling working with dad and Onyx like you do. When we used to start farming a 'new land' or 'wild land', we would plough it and plant potatoes the first time. After that the soil would be ready to grow anything.
Because you asked...I subscribed. I'll let you know when I am ready to put my channel up. HVACR for commercial spaces is where I am at this point. Years ago, I held four ASE master certs...then I went off to fly jets. Now, I am home every night and I am valued for my abilities. I know you are also valued. We all need to eat, and although I haven't been in a combine since 1966, I get where you are coming from. Well done.
My father-in-law milked 80 head of cows, starting about 5 in the morning and then his youngest son milk them in the evening. He couldn't wait for school to be out for summer, my oldest son would spend the summer on the farm and ride in the tractor with Grandpa. He kept him from falling asleep and if he did my son woke him up right away.
As the resident truck driver on our farm I've learned that if the combine driver has to get out and kick the dirt to see if it's dry enough for me.... I'll just go turn around down at the next intersection! 🙂
I don't always think about it unless you ask, I just subscribed just now, been watching for a long while, im glad you reminded me, I enjoy watching, I live in Orlando Florida, I farm my back yard, maybe I will do the front yard sooner or later, I had about 50 sweet corn plants this last season, Now its broccoli, carrots, sweet potatoes ect. I love studying my soil and amending it, I would love to work on a farm one day. I have to be outdoors.

Good job coming back to help your dad Onyx. When I was your age, I had to catch bales of alfalfa, stack them on on the trailer, and then stack them in the barn. I am old now, but those day's of working, made me a better worker as an adult, and a lot of people don't care about the work they do, and can't keep a job. Your dad is a good man, listen and learn. On a dairy farm I worked on in high-school, a few goose hunters set up in one of our fields I was spreading liquid manure in. Between loads I asked the farmer if they had permission to hunt there. He said no and told me to get rid of them. I filled the tanker and spread the load on their decoys. Not a word was said from the hunters and they never came back.
