Our “big” combine was a 76 model model IH 815 diesel with a 6 row, 30” corn head. Support equipment was a 1965 model IH DCOF 405 road tractor with a 38’ Trailmobile grain trailer, a 1962 IH Loadstar 10 wheeler and a 400 by Grain O Vator auger wagon, pulled by either a 1256 or 1566 IH tractor. Average corn yields back then were 130 bpa. At times the combine would sit with a full tank, waiting for a truck to return from the elevator. We downsized in 1982. The row crop equipment was sold at auction in 1982. Dad finished out his working years doing custom fertilizer and custom haying work. I went to town, got a job working for an elevator and escalator manufacturer and spent the next 30 years working for that company. Dad passed in 2017. I never lost my passion for farming and red equipment. Thanks for this video!!
I should’ve mentioned mom was the real hero. She did a lot of running, keeping us well fed and fueled up and occasionally taking a loaded truck to the elevator!!
Bodie farm! Cool story behind them brothers. About a 5 star hotel that wouldn’t rent one of them a room. He went in the back talked to the manager and came back with the manager who said get him a room, he owns the ground we sit on.. ha! Cool to see! Thank you!
@@bigtractorpowerhe has. They tell another story that one of the brothers went to town and bought the first scaffold wagon in Christian co. They were big tobacco farmers and he bought all 6 on the lot. Hooked one to his truck and when asked about getting the others said he didn’t care about them he just didn’t want anybody else to get one. Ha!
How soon "large" equipment becomes small. I grew up in the 70's and we had older equipment that was average size for that day. Then I started farming on my own in the 80's and operated large equipment for that time. Today, that equipment looks tiny. Six row corn head with 20 ft grain table. Just one tractor trailer. Many changes in 45 years.
Just starting corn harvest here in central Ks with 2 claas 8600’s 16 row 30” capello corn heads and mt865c challenger hooked up to a kinze 1050 grain cart and a 8410t hooked up to a Kinze 1050! 7500 acres of corn this year!
The combination of the 16-row corn head and those massive unloading augers is a game-changer. Watching them unload corn at 4.5 bushels per second into those grain carts is amazing!
Dad and my oldest brother farm just over 1,000 acres. We run a John Deere 9770 with a 8 row 30 inch corn head and for beans we run a 35 ft draper. We have a Case IH 305 that we run on our kinze 1050 grain cart. We have 2 semis and 2 gravity wagons that haul to our farm.
Very cool combine. The 95 is one of my all time favorites. My neighbor had one when I was very young. His was a 95EB with a 3 row corn head and a 13 ft grain head with the flat wooden bat reel.
We run a Brent Avalanche 1086 Grain Cart on our farm in central New York, and it gets hilly. That being said, we pull it with one of our magnum 280s, it can be a struggle sometimes, but if you use your head and keep momentem up, it does the job we need it to, but it certainly requires you to think

I am not sure if I can get that. The field is right next to Ft Campbell, KYs air field. There are many fields in that area that are a no fly zone for drones. I will have to find out about that. Google Earth would show it. It’s about 2 miles east of Layfayette, KY. There is a 1,000 field that film at right next to it. I ran their grain cart, which was an A&L F705 700 bushel grain cart and was being pulled using a John Deere 8120 tractor with window tints.
Thank you for watching. The 715 is one of the all time greats. I have wanted to feature a 715 for many years on BTP. I hopefully have one lined up to film next fall.
We powered through our fields with a Farmall Super M pulling a New Idea 2-row picker and an Oliver Row Crop 60 doing wagon duty. If we'd started picking that field when I started high school, we'd be almost done by now.
Truly awesome video Jason, some of those stats and figures are just mind blowing watching it here in England where that one field is probably equivalent to two whole Farms here.
Not everyone can afford to replace their equipment every couple of years, at least not at the ridiculous prices at the moment . The good thing about doing the maintenance yourself is that you not only learn how it works, you at least know that its been done properly dont worry about how long your videos are Andy ill watch em no matter how long they are great video Andy.
It’s not always easy to talk during harvesting. There’s a lot to pay attention to and the Combine had just opened up a section of the field. It was going around a lot of different terms when I was talking with him.
Anyone who sold 7 dollar corn($11 in Canada) bought newer equipment in 2022. The more acres you have the bigger the jackpot. The used market was very active.
That's a very impressive harvesting operation. Thanks for sharing it. And some nice night views as well. When the combine is unloading, how do it and the grain cart adjust their position to fill the length of the cart? If the cart tractor operator does it, how does he know when to do it?
Mike you missed the Nextat combine one and only in US running in Aberdeen South Dakota area 20 row corn head. We are running a 18 row header 30 in for out 36 row planter at Breen farms on Claas 8600
The corn raised here is used for ethanol which has a by product of distillers grain to feed cows and chickens. A lot of this corn also ends up, going down in Tennessee to be used for Jack Daniels production.
Jason I watched the first spring video to see the 2150 in action however this planter you showed briefly here looked different with some of the units folded up behind itself along with another liquid tank and pulling tractor….. can you give some more specifics on their planting setup? Great video!
The planter shown is a new for 2023 2150S. It was used to plant the corn being harvested. It can plant 16 rows of 30 inch corn or 31 rows of 15 inch soybeans.
Being from Indiana,i never was over to Western Kentucky alot. I drag raced and we always went to Eastern Kentucky.. completely different farming that's for sure. I still farm some ,but a drop in the hat compared to that one field😅
Gleaner makes the best combine on the market in my opinion. The 250 Axial-Flows are also very good. If you want to harvest good quality corn in a hurry, the 9250 with the 4416 head will get the job done well.
