Listen closely to the last 4 songs on Energy. They sound completely different and were actually off the first 7". IMO the last 4 are outrageously incredible with the rest just being brilliant.
I've been an OpIvy fan for almost 20 years and this has always been my favorite song you guys made! Such an amazing baseline! Glad to see you still playing!
OPIV Energy, along with NUFAN Leche Con Carne & Bad Religion All Ages are directly responsible for my being a musician today. Over 20 years of bands and shows under my belt thanks to inspiration like this. Matt has long been my favorite bassist, and tattooed around my right arm are the lyrics "if that's what they call normal I'd rather be insane". Fan forever.
Thank you Matt. I was stationed on Mare Island in the late 80's and hung around the Benicia crowd. Went to see you in Benicia at a friends house, some backyard in Pinole, Gilman of course. I talked to Jessie a few times but never anyone else from Op Ivy. I do remember the show in Benicia at the friends (will not say name) house the police showed up and everyone begged the police to let you play one more song. Officer it was!!!
THANK YOU MATT!!!!! This was THE song that made you my favorite bassist of all time! The little part at the end makes me bang my head until I have a concussion and it's SOOOOO cool to see you play this song with THAT bass. Thanks so much, man! This is amazing!
I'm about to head out to work and will be playing this along with other op iv songs. I'll be psyching on the energy and message from your music to get me through it. Much love, thanks.
You can tell when he plays that chorus bassline, it's taking him back to like 30+ years ago to some small ass venue he played. Its a beautiful thing.
924 Gilman St to be specific.
I think I just fell in love with him at 0:48. Apologies to both our spouses. 😅
Dude that is still so ill af
I love seeing how much he enjoys playing - it's very clear
I love how happy he looks playing it. It's like he's feeling that nostalgia.
You just lifted this from his channel, how is this allowed? Everyone go over to Matt’s channel and support his work there!!!
Op Ivy is where it's at.
from the whole energy album, the bass on “Here We Go Again” is my favorite. catchy rhythm, as well as having solid ass transitions.
