English dubs work best with more realistic and grounded concepts rather than in a fantasy where It may sound a bit cringey to hear them shout attack moves.. Personally, I mainly watch Jap with English subs, but sometimes the English voice actors do such phenomenal work that the show itself evolves into something truly memorable.. From an English speakers perspective anyway..

As a Japanese, Death Note is an anime that can be enjoyed in relatively English. But I can't enjoy other anime. One piece, etc. So if you want to know the fun of real anime, you should learn Japanese.
I agree! I'm half-Japanese, and I'm currently studying the language, but Death Note is an anime I can watch in sub or dub and still enjoy it. A lot of times the English dub of an anime is really bad, I feel like Death Note is a rare exception. The only other anime that I can enjoy in English is Code Geass. Both dubs are done really well.
