The first two clips are how Light got caught. He wanted to force a confrontation, but there was no reason to
L basically baited him into a confrontation, then when he figured out that Kira was anything but a god he knew that keeping Kira close to his investigation would ultimately entrap him
Although I must admit that things could've gone a lot faster had L narrowed down the list of suspects longer. In Light's defence there was no reason for L to seek direct confrontation either and he would've probably survived hadn't L been in it solely for the thrill of solving another puzzle.

I remember going to my school computer when death note first came out. I would wait every week for the next episode to air and stay after school just to watch the next episode, back then you could watch anime on TH-cam without it getting censored. Now 15 years later, I still come back to these death note montages from time to time, man oh man this anime was revolutionary. I don’t think any other anime has been as reputable as death note.

light was honestly such a dumbass it went from “it could be anyone on earth” to “it could be anyone in the kanto region of japan” to “it’s almost certainly light yagami but let me make sure” in like a few months
The "it could be anyone in the kanto region of Japan" was definitely a huge blunder on Light's part. But everything after, it was him taking things as a game, and he wanted to win the game very badly. He was constantly taunting L, constantly trying to say "Yeah, you figured it out. So what? You can't pin it on me without reasonable proof." with his antics, like with the "L, did you know shinigamis like apples?". Light was a dumbass on the first one, but later he was an arrogant brat.

Nah, that thing was broadcasted even on street building screens. No matter what light was watching that would have taken over. Maybe if it was during a time that Light was sleeping or something but that was very unlikely since L saw the operation time of Kira

The first scene is sooooo ICONIC that whenever I rewatch it I get goosebumps like the first time.
one of the Rare shows where the main character is the villain and it actually works most of the time.
Only reason he didn't get caught was because of lack of proof, we all know L knew who Kira really was the whole time.
Which is a dumb principle because in reality the CIA would probably back L in cases like this and have the mentality that it would be better to wager on it by killing Light than doing things within the legal boundaries

Reread my comment again. It exactly replies to your comment in detail. I shouldn't rewrite it again, but I'd like to highlight a specific sentence from it "How you can compare a smart man + SUPERNATURAL POWER to just a smart (HUMAN) with (HUMAN) power.
Despite that, L has won in the japanese movie adaptation released just after the anime by sacrificing himself via writing his own name on the notebook to die peacefully after 24 days (the maximum period allowed after writing one's name), So that Rem couldn't kill him (Just Watari).
But anyways, the fact is still the same Kira has won in the anime not because he's smarter, just like his death only in the end, which wasn't because Near and Mello are smarter. There are different factors affecting the winning process.

So we can't admit this surpass of one over the other with just some data. But no way if it's actually official. in the end this is just a fictional story.
@@Dr_Abdo_Ahmed They both had their fair share of advantages IMO. L had the entire police force behind his back to his disposal contrary to the dissatisfaction of Light’s dad. While yes, Light’s supernatural abilities did give him an upper hand, I wouldn’t definitively say that one was smarter than the other author’s official statement aside. Sure, L died - and you could say Light won in that regard - but the things he did prior to his death was what helped Near solve the case; You can argue that L won in this regard.

I think that L could have proved about loght being kira but L did not had any idea about shinigami is real. Hence he was not prepared about a mythological character to appear suddenly and he was still unknown to the rules of death note.
Here's how L could've caught Kira. There are ways to trace at what times a certain individual has been using his PC. We know that Light Yagami didn't hack into Soichiro's PC, it is clearly seen that he just logged on to his dad's account. We also know that at some point, Kira somehow became aware of the fact that the police suspected the perpetrator to be a student.
We can conclude that he is most likely a student. We can also conclude that he somehow obtained police information. Connecting the dots, the most likely theory should be that Kira is a student who has relations to a police officer or multiple police officers.
Now comes the really easy part. We know that if Kira didn't hack the police database, he must've logged onto the files directly through his (in this case dad's) device. Therefore, we would simply check the devices of the police officers involved in the Kira case, and see if there was any moment when their device was running while they were not at home. This is something the federal government can retrace, so they would find that Soichiro's personal device was running the database while he was not at home practically making whoever was close to him a shoot-on-sight convict already.
The writer obviously didn't know of this. Or they forgot

There shouldn't be a way to delete log in information. The idea is that once Light logins to his dad device that information is logged outside the computer. There is no way for him to change that @@Barsee23

There's an easier way , in the first broadcast all they had to do on top of broadcasting in kanto region is to also broadcast a different criminal per household. essentially giving a criminal ID to a specific location. whichever criminal dies automatically weeds out where it was seen. pinpointing lights house. his dad being a police officer and light clearly going after mainly criminals will essentially give them enough proof to install microphones and cameras in lights room to attain evidence with the fathers cooperation. edit. I also wanted to add this method results in only 1 casualty like L's original base test, and does not use more criminals than him. L's plan was under cooked

You know, I feel like L could have done way better if he didn't announce more than he needed to in his introduction scene. There was no reason to let Light know the broadcast wasn't worldwide and was just broadcast in the Kanto region of Japan. He could have given Light a false sense of security and kept an upper hand.
I think it was the way to assure people who watched the announcement as L was in upperhand and the reason of his action could be to lure him out by provoking and make more mistakes, since Kira will make a move regardless.
Also because he wanted to keep the public calm and prove to them that kira is not a god

I just thought of this now, but if the Shinigami Eyes worked even slightly different, L could easily have died after his broadcast because he didn’t know that there would be a second Kira and Misa hadn’t met Light at this point in the story. bro took a real risk and it almost paid off for him

I still don't understand how L was able to figure out Light was in Kanto. I know he says that they were only broadcasting in that region, but like, that would've been more helpful if L actually *did* die, but obviously not. (It's been a while since I've watched the whole thing through. I'm going off my fickle memory and this clip)
The first of Light’s murders was in Kanto, so how I take it is that L with the help of Interpol was able to track when the uptick of criminals dying of random heart attacks began
From there L played his decoy, taking his chance to expose Kira and revealed Light’s location
L was a genius compared to anyone else in death note for example L was essentially playing chess against light only learning the rules by what he did and didn't do and he nearly won the only reason why is a planted rule light specifically made to clear himself
Crazy how the last time L’s theme was played when he was alive it never reached its climax because L fell just short of solving the case

just thought about it. what L could have done to do to prove that Light was Kira was to reproduce the Lind L Taylor trick. "Accidentally" let Light find out his real (fake) name, let's say by writing it somewhere in exchanges in Soichiro's emails, which would actually be an other criminal name condemned to death. If the criminal dies, that proves that it was Light trying to end L.
