    I feel like Near gets so much unnecessary hate, people love to jump at "he's copying L" but that's literally the point... He's L's successor and I'm sure L would be rooting for him to avenge him. Although I am a bit biased since I find it very cute that there's a mini-me L with his own weird little quirks.

    Near was smart, but as Light himself admits, he’s no L. As light said, L would’ve considered the possibility of a fake notebook from the very beginning, and Near, if not for Mikami’s mistake, would’ve walked right into Light’s trap.
    Near said it too- neither himself or Mello could’ve surpassed L by themselves. L truly knew how to get to Kira’s nerves in a way that even Light respected and feared.

      I like to think that L is balanced an overall efficient when it comes to make moves and deducing but that Mello is far better than him to make moves meanwhile Near is far better than him to deduce and manage a case , each of them completely lacking of the other part (Near can't handle himself alone + Mello expose way too much himself), making them overall weaker than L but together overall better.
      I mean by that Mello is really impulsive and pro active , each of his moves were in a sense better than L's cause meanwhile most of L's moves were psychological tricks to try making Light betraying himself on the long game Mello's one forced Light to think fast cause everything was going on too quick. Every moves of Mello heavily impacted the case cause Kira was forced to act under a real timed pressure and couldn't take his time to think at the best counter measure.
      On the other hand , Near don't overthink the same way as L did and go straight to the point searching directly a way to corner Kira in a dead way to make himself reveal his identity instead of searching to prove who he exactly is. Kira could've been Matsuda , Aizawa , Mogi , Soichiro , Light... that was the same for him as long as he can find a way to make Kira admits that he is.

    Hearing Near say that he’s never travelled anywhere by himself is actually pretty eye-opening, he may be genius but he is very reserved and sheltered, so much to the point where he pretty much always needs someone to watch over him and make arrangements in his place. That’s where Near and Mello are different, Mello is more outgoing along with better social skills while Near is a better detective and reasoning.

    Most ppl may not notice it but the voice actress for Near is sooo skilled. her pronunciation is impeccable. She makes everything sound subtly intimidating and passive aggressive in a masculine AND childish way, which is very difficult for females who grow up with more feminine intonations. she obviously put a lot of work into her craft. Love that the very mild pitch intonations and pitch stressors she uses for emphasis are so emotive while still giving off a deadpan “flat” affect. If you try to mimic a phrase in this video and compare yourself to her, you’ll notice how mild her pitch stressing/emphasis and intonation is and I think that’s part of what makes it so effective. She must have learned how to do a “less is more” approach to pitch. She’s a master. And the breathiness of her voice is pretty and ethereal. Cool voice, great acting skill, great speech skill, perfect choice for the character, seriously a perfect 1:1 dub anime voice, she had to be thinking hard and speaking very carefully to be able to do this, and I bet she studied Japanese voice acting a LOT in order to replicate it this well in the English language. It’s a shame I don’t see her in dubs much anymore! So many characters would have been given a new life if she voiced them, especially because good younger boy / truly androgynous voices are very hard to come by, many of them just sound like adult women. Not everyone can do it. Whoever directed the death note dub generally did a good job as well.

      Near is a plot-armored special snowflake introduced to take over the role of L as a more generic version of him with less personality. The more I think about it the more I think he really is the best of the detectives. He seems to genuinely value his team and never others or picks on anyone (like L did with Matsuda and Aizawa which ultimately led to his team becoming fractured). He never really engaged Light in games quite like L did, he did a lot more sneaking around in the background and kept Light's nose OUT of it. He NEVER tortured anyone like L did (mock executions and solitary confinement are torture).

It always seemed like L really didn't have as much respect for Matsuda as he did for others.

      Near was a better leader than L, and both were far ahead of Light. Which is arguably why Light lost. Light could act excellently on his own, but when he had to coordinate others like Misa and Mikame, he was clearly out of his element. And ultimately, his failure to understand and communicate with his team of killers is what led to his downfall.

He really likes fucking with Light in subtle and creative ways. Unfortunately, the anime doesn’t show some of the ways he acts out on his deductions or his personality that much. Exactly. Mogi and Matt also has more character involvement in the case in the Managua too. There was a moment where Mogi and Aizawa ran into Mello and Matt at the airport that led to them removing Misa Amana from the picture I order to investigate Takada more. Also, Near got more in depth with explaining how Mikami’s own actions backfire against Light when Mello kidnapped Takada.

    • @Bloooo95
      @Bloooo95 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IsaacAtap yep! I also think it’s important because Light, in the manga, understands why Mikami did what he did. Mikami did it out of loyalty because Takada *had* to be dealt with to avoid Mello or Near getting a hold of her. Light failed to let Mikami know he can act in emergencies so Mikami felt he was the only one with agency to do what Light knew needed to be done.
      Light failed to account for that and Light realizes that in the manga and not in the anime.

      @@Bloooo95 It actually also helps explain a lot of stuff at 6:18 of the video when Near deduces that Mikami is X-Kira because in the show the skip over the part where Mikami uses that speech as a way to subtlety communicate to Kira that he wants instruction and that if doesn't receive it he'll interpret Kiras words on his own. Near used this to reverse engineer the timeline from when Demegawa was killed to when Takada was named Kiras spokesperson. The anime skipped over this and it REALLY made it look like ear was pulling stuff out of thin air rather than a careful L like deduction.

      A lot of the hatred comes from the fact that it was L versus Light the whole time, and people felt that it made L's appearance unnecessary since someone that hadn't been in the show at all the whole time suddenly appears as another match for Light. Making the whole stakes of L versus Light feel pointless in the end. Near could be seen as a scapegoat with how he was introduced in the anime (I don't know how it was handled in the manga). Personally I like Near, but I understand why people were upset with him being added in.
      If you were going to say that Light existed as "Evil acts with 'good intentions'" and L existed as a symbol of the morally accepted Justice System. It could have ended with Light winning. Light was clearly the bad guy in the series, a tyrant. He managed to create a safer world at the expense of fear, but the world was safer and less deadly. The closest a world could get to "world peace". Meanwhile L stood for the rights of individuals in a Justice System in which people were allowed a fair trial and would live in less fear of one singular entity. It was two ideals against each other, but the draw of the show was L versus Light. So when someone new took over, it just felt pointless. Yes they all technically worked together after L's death, but it still took away from the main rivalry and basically said to the audience "There was never going to be a chance that Light would have won, the narrative was already decided in favor against him by people in the background whom were never introduced before".

      It's symbolism. It's what the author likes to convey to audiences pertaining a character, including Near. His compulsion to possess and to organize toys to manipulate their positions implies the way his mind works - The attention to details, multiple ways to construct, organize, manipulate and plan, being able to spot anomalies in his toys, being a perfectionist in every block which relates to his ability to be sharp in his deductive skills and constructive reasoning. Basically this is use of parallel symbolism in relation to his investigative prowess.

      I think people liked L too much for anyone else to replace him.
      I like the dynamic between Near and Mello that existed. They were two sides of the same coin that was L.
      Near was the calculating detective, and Mello was the more emotional side of L that occasionally surfaced itself. People unfairly judge these two characters as L ripoffs, but their designs and character attributes were deliberately contrived to represent both sides of L.
      A recent analysis I spotted was that Near also could represent the calculating side of Light Yagami without the ego and insurmountable god complex.
      I find Near quite an engaging character for his purely cold and calculating nature, though L was always more fun for me to watch due to his underlying humanity underneath his cold logic. Near lacks this humanity which, whilst making him an interesting character in his own right, doesn't make him as endearing or fun to watch as L.
      Much like his toys and puzzles, Near viewed the Kira case as nothing more than a game.

    • @KitsunesTrove
      @KitsunesTrove  ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Exactly! Near in the manga is so much better than Near in the anime. The manga showed us Near's deductive skills, it showed us how he reaches certain conclusions. There was so much more to the final confrontation between Light and Near in the warehouse, too. The anime makes it look like Near just magically knows the answers to everything without doing any research or putting any effort into it.
      I watched the anime before reading the manga. I liked Near from the anime alone, but after reading the manga, I respected him even more and it solidified Near as one of my favorite characters. In terms of MBTI, Light is an ENTJ the J stands for judging which in this case simply means that he plans. while L is an INTP. the P meaning perception, simply putting it, he adapts. Light makes mastermind plans which L observes and adapts to.
      However, Near is an INTJ. He is nearly (pun not intended) the same as Light, an ENTJ, except that Near is introverted as opposed to extroverted. which is what the E and I stand for. They are both Judgers. As opposed to adapting like L, Near sees right through Light’s plans because he is also a planner. Near uses Light’s plans as his foundation to mold it into his own, to build his own plan. And in his own words “beat him at his own game”

    Things that most people get wrong about Near:
    He`s not emotionless, it`s just that like L and Sherlock Holmes he sees emotional and romantic feelings as anathema to deductive integrity.
    Although all Wammy kids were encouraged to compete ferociously for the honour of succeeding L,(Although admittedly part of that may have been his "natural talent")Near didn`t put as much stock in this competition as the others and when Roger asked him and Mello to work together, Near was far more open to the possibility than the hotheaded Mello was.
    Much like myself and L, he is most likely on the Asperger`s/Autism Spectrum as shown by his dull affect,childishness,repetitive behaviors,Eidetic memory and obsession with stacking his toys and puzzles in an ordered manner much like L used to do with his cakes and sugar cubes.
    Also like myself and L, he overthinks to the point of insomnia.
    Near admires L more than he lets on as whilst he initially dismisses L as "a loser", he models his posture,mannerisms,dress,speaking voice(Both as himself and "N" or "Babel" in the Drama) after a younger version of his predecessor.This is even more apparent in The Manga,Films and Drama.
    Unlike L, he is even more blunt and precise and paradoxically not as overtly antisocial and manipulative as L could be later on in the Kira case which in part led to his downfall.
    Near(Like myself and his creators Ohba and Obata)is an existentialist.
    "What is good from evil?What is right from wrong?What is righteousness from wickedness?No one can say.I am no different from you,Light Yagami.I do what I believe to be right and assume that to be righteous.However, the power to dictate with the stroke of a pen what is right or wrong for society and any person who would use such power I see as neither just nor peaceful.Supposing there was a God and his teachings were before me, I would still think things through and decide for myself what I thought was right or wrong."

    Near gets so much unnecessary hate. I think if he and Mello were in the entire series like they were with the manga, people wouldn't hate him as much but I believe most of his hatred comes from the fact that by the time he entered the series we already had our favorite characters and it came across as if Near's position in the story was imposing on L's (a lot of people's favorite character) place within the story. L did the biggest part of the detective work and Near (despite his intelligence) simply came in as the "replacement." When you pit a replacement character near the end of a very exciting series against the already-established main character (also a fan favorite) people are immediately going to look at the unestablished replacement character as unlikable.

    • @KitsunesTrove
      @KitsunesTrove  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That makes sense. And I can understand how the L fans might hate him for this reason. They really should have made anime Near like the manga version. We get to spend more time with both him and Mello. We see Near putting in the work and effort to solve everything. Even if we could have had L and Near working together for a bit before losing L, (like they do in the Japanese TV drama), that might have helped too, giving people the chance to warm up to Near first. Near is one of my favorite characters. I have nothing against L, but I still like Near a little more. Thanks for watching!

      @@KitsunesTrove I think a lot of people also dislike him because the entire time L accused Light of being Kira nobody believed him but considering the circumstances behind his and Watari's deaths, all the detectives began to really question Light's innocence. That is why everyone was so eager to believe Near once he figured it out. And again, pitting a brand new character who comes across as if he's stepping on top of a recently deceased fan-favorite, whether the main character is a good guy or not, everyone is automatically going to side with the main character.

    Also, I think Near mainly benefitted from Mello's sacrifice. Like Ryuzaki L, Mello understood that getting involved directly and putting his life on the line was necessary for solving the case. Like Near says in the end, if there had been only one successor to L, either he or Mello would have failed. But Near was able to benefit from someone else putting their life on the line: his victory required the sacrifice of Ryuzaki L and Mello. He could sit back and analyze everything from his safe room, sort of in the style Ryuzaki L used to solve cases like the Los Angeles B. B. murder cases.

      @@anarchyxgaming8478 What was L's evidence that Near worked off of? I thought that the only information concerning the NPA was because of Aizawa and Mello coupled with the fact that Kira was unusually cooperative with the NPA. Due to the data deletion that occurred before Watari's death, the information Near started with was testimony from a police officer who heard about the notebook being in NPA's custody during Higuchi's arrest, and that L is dead. Mello was able to confirm who was working for the NPA by kidnapping the deputy director and that there were fake rules in the notebook (thanks to an annoying Shinigami). Furthermore, Aizawa confirmed to Near that one of their members was suspected of being Kira by the original L, and the events that led to that member's exoneration. I can't help but think that Near wasn't anywhere near as clever as L. Near had so much information fed to him, and it allowed him piece the entire story together like a puzzle. L on the other hand used his own wit to suspect Light. Before L's death, L was willing to test the notebook after immediately having suspicion about the 13 day rule. Had it not been for Rem, L would have gotten extremely close to solving the case. L was far more intelligent and willing to allow people to die in order to win.

    Things were pretty decent, but there was no way he could figure out teru was doing the killings by just seeing how he was a devoted follower. Light had so many followers that it doesn't make any sense.

    • @KitsunesTrove
      @KitsunesTrove  ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I really wish the anime had followed the manga here. Yeah, in the anime, Near just seems to magically have the answers to everything, including figuring out that Teru was doing the killings.
      In the manga it makes much more sense. The manga shows Near going through all of the tapes and coming to his conclusion about Teru through process of elimination. The manga also shows Near's deductive skills and his thought processes. We even see him get it wrong a couple of times. The anime didn't do his character justice imo.
      Thanks for watching!

    Im going to say this, I like Near just as much as I love the Goat L he gets hated too much. I get it he came after the amazing L and his victory didn’t feel earned, but the thing is it’s not his fault how he won. Light had become too over confident and made mistakes and after each discovery he would explain his reason. But I understand people miss the cat and mouse game L and Light would play, but It was cursed fate Near came after L. Please don’t hate on him it’s not his fault he came after the famous detective L.

Nate and Lawliet are both likely on the Autism/Asperger`s Spectrum like myself and as such are socially awkward,somewhat emotionally stunted shut-ins with nearly supernatural powers of observation,however Nate is far more modest and even more blunt whilst Lawliet is more outgoing and daring like Mello and not beneath putting down or manipulating those he(Often rightfully,to be fair)views as intellectual inferiors similar to Light.
