    Hello, when to start running sport the petrol engine? I mean, the car start electric and keep it untill you kick down, so basically you over stress the engine, cause it's still "cold" when you will kick down, right? Also the oil should still be cold... I make research but nothing answer this question.

      Great point! I’ve never dug that deep myself. Good question. If you find the answer, please comment back with it. With my quick research, I’d venture to say the ICE is engineered to handle this situation. if you look at the Prius, there are many examples with high mileage and no issues. If this was an issue, there would be much more information available to read. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    @nikolabrkljac6585 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good day great review. We are interested in a few things. What is the consumption on the highway, when the drive is exclusively on the gasoline engine? The second question is from your personal experience whether you would rather go with Tesla s85 from 2015 , or for the 2018 BMW 330e, the price here in Norway er the same. Thanks in advance and many greetings from Norway.

    • @QuickShifts
      @QuickShifts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thanks for watching!
      Our 330e was good for about 29ish mpgs on gas only at freeway speeds around 70-75 mph. It would do better at lower speeds if you where willing to hyper mile.
      The decision on a Tesla vs the 330e is hard to answer. What is your charging station situation? I imagine in Norway you face cold weather which will greatly diminish your range. If you have good access to charging, that’s no problem. But if you don’t, then a Tesla is not a good choice. Tesla may hold value better, but the ability to never be stranded by having a gas engine is a key feature. The interior and quality of the BMW is far superior to the Tesla. There are many things to be considered. As fascinated by Tesla’s as I am, I personally would go with the BMW. It’s smaller but so much nicer inside. I hope this helps you!

    Hi bud - what about service cost"s... as its a hybrid is it more to service and are you stuck with using bmw as local mechanics wont have the knowledge to maintain it?

    • @QuickShifts
      @QuickShifts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. Service is very similar to any other BMW. It still is a 4 cylinder turbo engine. Thus it requires oil change. If the car is under warranty, you will probably still need to have it serviced by BMW. There are no special things for the hybrid from a maintenance item standpoint, but there are additional checks in the computer since it has additional systems. It should cost you the same as other BMWs. If it is out of warranty, you could have it serviced by any technician that has been trained to do so. I personally wouldn’t take a car like this to “Joe’s Backyard Garage” for work anyway. 😉👍

    • @QuickShifts
      @QuickShifts  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Varys based on driving conditions etc. it is not a fast thing and can take a long time to charge up. You are better off using this selection to “hold” your charge for use later then to charge it up. The car is far more effective if driven in hybrid mode rather than charging and then driving EV and going back and forth.

      Here are notes from the BMW warrantee card I found online:
      BMW PHEV Battery Warranty.
      The BMW PHEV Warranty includes a BMW PHEV Battery Warranty against failures of the high voltage battery as a result of manufacturing defects. In addition to the BMW PHEV Three Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty, the high voltage battery is warranted for up to six years from the date of first registration, or up to 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
      All high voltage battery repairs under warranty must be carried out by a BMW Service Authorised Workshop.
      As per the BMW PHEV Three Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty, the benefits of the BMW PHEV Battery Warranty are fully transferable to subsequent owners of this BMW PHEV by someone other than an approved BMW Service Authorised Workshop.

    • @QuickShifts
      @QuickShifts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      how much would it cost to replace is a hard thing to answer. There are many cells in these. you can replace just the bad cell or the entire battery. If you had a catastrophic failure and replaced the entire battery and you paid BMW to do it all, I bet it’s around $10k USD. I just don’t see that happening. The programming to maintain the batteries is very good and errors on the safe side. Only time will tell for certain though.

    • @QuickShifts
      @QuickShifts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Car repairs are expensive on every car these days. If you find one in good shape that has had proper maintenance you will be better off then if you get a salvage car or someone’s neglected trade in. That’s a risk you take buying a used car of any type. Hunt wisely.

    • @QuickShifts

      I want to add, if you are thinking about picking up a BMW out of warranty, check around for a local mechanic that works on them. If you have a reputable one, they will likely charge far less than a dealership, also, you can have them inspect the potential vehicle before you buy it for peace of mind. 👍🏻

    Toyota RAV4 Plugin is much better, make up to ~95-100km in the City in EV only, have 306 HP. And by the way, is also not so expensive like this German BMW car with unadapted platform for PHEV, because the Germans have slept through the electric age and they packing a battery, PHEV Systems into the gas engines platforms by force, all they what is left is the exorbitant prices for German high salaries of their employees .
    So...the choice seems obvious, if PHEV only Toyota.

      You should check out my videos on the 2020 RAV4 hybrid we traded in the 330e for. It was a great little suv. I still have zero regrets about the 330e. It was solid for us and I got it for the right place.

      I have a RAV4 Prime and am somewhat considering the new 330e in addition. The EV range is fantastic on the R4P, as is the dependability.

      The engine is based on the Prius driveline. It is no mistake. If you are familiar with Toyota, you will recognize that as a very positive thing. The quality is there.

      @@mesropmadzharyan6727 this goes as far back as 2012, possibly further. Google it and you will find the same information. It is no secret that Toyota and BMW have been sharing tech and partnering together. The new Supra is basically a BMW with Toyota badges on it. This is all positive stuff. Nothing to be angry about. 👍🏻

      They take a big initial hit and then they settle down. It is not uncommon for hybrids in particular, but the BMWs tend to be the hardest hit.
