Good day great review. We are interested in a few things. What is the consumption on the highway, when the drive is exclusively on the gasoline engine? The second question is from your personal experience whether you would rather go with Tesla s85 from 2015 , or for the 2018 BMW 330e, the price here in Norway er the same. Thanks in advance and many greetings from Norway.
Thanks for watching! Our 330e was good for about 29ish mpgs on gas only at freeway speeds around 70-75 mph. It would do better at lower speeds if you where willing to hyper mile. The decision on a Tesla vs the 330e is hard to answer. What is your charging station situation? I imagine in Norway you face cold weather which will greatly diminish your range. If you have good access to charging, that’s no problem. But if you don’t, then a Tesla is not a good choice. Tesla may hold value better, but the ability to never be stranded by having a gas engine is a key feature. The interior and quality of the BMW is far superior to the Tesla. There are many things to be considered. As fascinated by Tesla’s as I am, I personally would go with the BMW. It’s smaller but so much nicer inside. I hope this helps you!
Hi bud - what about service cost"s... as its a hybrid is it more to service and are you stuck with using bmw as local mechanics wont have the knowledge to maintain it?
Good question. Service is very similar to any other BMW. It still is a 4 cylinder turbo engine. Thus it requires oil change. If the car is under warranty, you will probably still need to have it serviced by BMW. There are no special things for the hybrid from a maintenance item standpoint, but there are additional checks in the computer since it has additional systems. It should cost you the same as other BMWs. If it is out of warranty, you could have it serviced by any technician that has been trained to do so. I personally wouldn’t take a car like this to “Joe’s Backyard Garage” for work anyway. 😉👍
Varys based on driving conditions etc. it is not a fast thing and can take a long time to charge up. You are better off using this selection to “hold” your charge for use later then to charge it up. The car is far more effective if driven in hybrid mode rather than charging and then driving EV and going back and forth.
