I own a 2023 X5 45e PHEV. I think the estimate is about 30 miles. I already have seen 43 miles at full charge as indicated range when 100% charged sometimes, and actually done 50+ mile drives with mixed conditions on single charge. Out of my 6700 miles on the car, about 5400 miles are in pure electric. For me, I have achieved better EV range in BMW's dedicated Hybrid Eco mode, over Electric mode. The car is super efficient when allowed to coast instead of regen braking, and the big heavy SUV is averaging 3miles/kw already. I am hoping to keep improving the performance as gain more experience handling the PHEV. With the features, the driving experience and cost I managed out of this deal, pretty good experience so far.
Great review, guys! Today I am driving my Kia Sorento PHEV (in mixed condition), and I am happy to report that I got 4 miles more than the EPA estimate of 32 miles, turning out 36 miles EV range total in New York City driving on local streets and highway.
We've got a 5 series 530e, bit older it's a 2018. So less range but I can confirm that the effective gas mileage and savings at the end of the day is pretty impressive. You mentioned at 7:10 that the efficiency on the highway is surprisingly good. That's because as a design decision BMW puts the electric motor per-transmission, which ends up benefiting its efficiency on the freeway/highway at the likely cost of efficiency on the roadway.
I actually went out in July and put $2500 down on a 2024 330e, same beautiful Brooklyn grey color. It was your videos that got me interested in this car. This seemed like the most luxury and tech in my desired price range. Thank you for this range test as my work commute is 13 miles and I was curious about how the AC would effect my range. I live in London kentucky. Go wild cats. Kentucky Boys know a good luxury car.
What about new BMW M3 competition what does that equal up to what miles per gallon does that equal up to besides the mild-hybrid which I don't think it has
I have owned it for over 2 years now and I can tell u a full charge is only about a hour of driving its a GAS car with a small buffer ... 330 miles a tank almost 350 with full charge ...
I’m an automotive technician now from what I’ve learned about 3.0 inline 6 rwd or awd power train is probably the best for long term reliability. Issue is the 2.5 turbo i4 wished they 3.0 or a new variant of 2.5 inline 6 because mechanical Bmw has down the best with engines
@@stricklydope8826 I would avoid i4 in any BMW product. 3.0 inline 6 in some cases turbo, the inline 6 are generally BMW most reliable engine option. The inline 6 is the best US.
@@trident5173 any of the 330es have a inline 6? Sorry for my ignorance idk anything about cars or bmws. Just want a hybrid car that that gets a lot of miles and I’ve been seeing ppl say they get 600-1000 miles per full tank/charge. So it really drew me in
Great video and thanks for posting. When you ran out of battery, did the car immediately and automatically switch on the gasoline powered engine or did you have to do something to keep the car moving?
Waiting for delivery next month for this car i'm excited! I am curious though when the battery dies does the HP / Torque reduce significantly that it feels slow on gas only? Or does it still maintain the 288 hp feel?
@@tombombadil473 Yeah you do feel the slow down without charge as you lose the electrical assist, but the car does charge itself back up with breaking/coasting to try and maintain it but it's not enough like "2 miles" then back to 0. Xtraboost is there but only for launch then your back to just the engine. I still love the car, thinking about tuning it it with JB+ to make up for it.
At 3.2 miles / kWh, only 8 kWh of energy. I am assuming there is a buffer as a protection of the battery. Could be better with range, if car was lighter weight and had efficient tires. I am currently driving a BMW i3, new since 2014 and it works for me, but still looking for a longer distance car. Plug-in hybrids are the way to go in the US until better charging infrastructure and EV technology exists.
Just took delivery on a 2024 custom order 330e. At the dealer it said 33 miles of range fully charged when I first turned the car on. I drove 90 miles home from the dealer doing the speed limit, sometimes using drivers assistance! Since then after a full charge at home it shows 18 or 19 miles. What gives?
Why did the screenshot at check-in #1 show the miles remaining in gas as 150 miles, but after you were done with the interstate driving at check-in #2 it went down to 142 miles? If it was in all-electric mode, wouldn't the gas engine miles remaining stay the same?
I love me a Bimmer boo boo but I’m suspicious of these electric cars since they’re so quiet! How do I stop my boo from sneaking out and silently driving away to clap trifling thots????
The battery would have to be a lot bigger, thus the range will drop the heavier the car is, also when the battery runs down it would use a lot more fuel to carry dead heavy batteries, in other words the weight would outweigh the benefits of having a larger battery.
But... Would the car let you drive it? Or do they come with some safety mechanism to prevent people from driving the car with no gas even with a full battery. It could be an interesting experiment
That would also come with a weight and space penalty...everything is a tradeoff. A hybrid should be just that...better overall fuel economy without sacrificing all the fun.
I've been driving i3 BEVs since 2014. Leased a '14 then '17 now own a '21. I've learned temperature has a significant impact on range. The EPA range estimate for my '21 is 153 miles. But when temperatures are in the mid 80s, I've seen 190+ miles on the guess-o-meter. I'm also used to much higher efficiency. All my i3 average in the 4 mi/kWh range but I've seen 6.5 mi/kWh when conditions were close to ideal.

What’s the on road price for x5 45e
@@silajit91- you mean out of the gate price? About USD 90K with good options
Same here, touching 10K EV miles on my X5. Averaging 46 mpg overall
I believe the x5 range is more the 330e 2023. What I came to know 2024 330e EV range got increased to 64 miles !!
you should do an all highway one (at speed limit). then a realistic highway one (10+ over the speed limit)

What's the total range though? If you have to hit the road I mean. You fuel up and you go. How far can you go before you have to refuel?
Mid 350s

currently I am looking forward to buy bmw 320e. Do you know if it is possible to increase the horsepower to the level of 330e by chiptuning?
So how many times did you have to fill up for gas in that 4 months?
I make it to work on the battery then charge at work for free and make it home on the battery.
12 kw for lci version? Lci version dont have 19kw?

Typically, weather conditions will greatly vary the battery range. We get our best on mild days with no rain
Pretty sure BMW claim a 9.09 KW/h usable battery capacity on the 330e.

Why BMW made hybrid models!?
People want to save money on gas which is getting more and more expensive.
Its value also tanked currently its only worth 30k Trade in at all.
Of course the range will drop as the battery age.
Why can't they just put a bigger battery into these PHEVs so that they can go 100 miles on EV range? I'd be willing to pony up some extra $ for that.
The battery would have to be a lot bigger, thus the range will drop the heavier the car is, also when the battery runs down it would use a lot more fuel to carry dead heavy batteries, in other words the weight would outweigh the benefits of having a larger battery.
Lmao in California it’s around $4.50 a gallon lol not that far off
I had the same thought! In LA I saw a cheap as $4.13.
