One point that was missed is that the Creator had essentially gone insane. When you destroy his mainframe, he falls into a deeper insanity, too, replicating himself to attack all around him before the Maenads defeat him (and him kill them, barring Cuore.)
I never understood the complaints about it being the same world, with the same castles, towns, and dungeons. Of course it's the same world. That's the idea. It would be kind of ridiculous if everything moved around or was replaced with all new stuff, or if it was just a different world that the characters aren't attached to. I mean... Come. On.
Well from a logical stand point it makes sense but from a gameplay standpoint it's tedious to do the same things you just did again
@@deathtaco4095I still just think people are terrible at managing expectations. I guess I mean I would understand the complaints, if TAY was ever presented as a new game. It wasn't. I would certainly consider it a story supplement, not some kind of psuedo-sequel. Advancing gameplay was never part of the scope of the project. I'd just say anybody who isn't in it for the story should probably not bother with TAY.

Yeah you revisit quite a few dungeons you completed in FF4 so you may want to wait a little to play it after finishing 4
Sounds to me the potential for a sequel exists in the form of Fusoya and Zeromus's conditions being unknown.
yeah...you'd think Zeromus being kinda free would be an issue...that said, if they could beat the "creator" then maybe Zeromus would be comparatively easy to destroy forever.

I didn't like this game very much because it just recycled too many beats from the original. However...
I fucking LOVE what this game did with Edward's character! We only see the beginning of his newfound courage and resolve towards the end of FF4 and it never really goes anywhere, but in this game he's a scheming badass! He was already my favourite FF character and this game did nothing bad for him!

I just finished this game, and I would give a B+ to the first half (great, except that it recycled FF4 content), and a D- to the second half (which consists solely of the final 15-hour dungeon). Here's how to fix it:
1. In the first part of The Crystals, where Edge, Rydia, Luca, and Golbez are traveling the world, allow you to USE the characters that you travel the world finding. Edge, Rydia, and Golbez are required, but Luca is not.
2. Use the system they used in FF4 Complete where benched characters gain levels equal to the characters in your party.
3. When it's finally time to go to the moon, make all of the dungeons FF6 Tower of Kefka style, where you are switching between 3 different parties of 5. 7 of the 22 characters can sit on the bench, but you have to use the rest.
4. Make the 18-bosses from other FF games an OPTIONAL SIDE DUNGEON! That was an inexcusable way to end the game.
These 4 things would have raised the quality of the entire game for me.
Of course the content would be recycled if it's on the same world map. 🤣

He never told anyone besides Cecil, Kain, Ceodore and Rosa and he probably left as soon as they got home.
26DML doesn't that mean that because Fusoya doesn't have the crystals, he'd be dead and zeromus could just float back to the blue planet to cause even more damage? Final Fantasy 4-3 confirmed.
This whole game's plot just makes the original game's plot into a lead-up to it. "This is the REAL story of FF4, everything else was just a setup to the battle with the Creator!" Yeah, not buying it.

I enjoyed this game, but only at the final chapter when everyone are together. From here, you can finally create your own team and use it against all the bosses after. Everything before was boring to me, but I love how some characters changed (Kain, Palom, ...). I see this game as a boss fest.

I guess you didn't know that this game was released on the Wii waaaay back in the day; you had to buy it in the Wii Store found on the system. The graphics were crude like the original FF4, but was still fun. The last couple chapters are fairly hard. The last chapter is a crazy gauntlet of nasty enemies, and was the hardest section of FF I've ever played.

The wii version had graphics quite abit better than the snes original. However, it was cell phone grade graphics, and it looks crude compared this psp version...wii version was the only version i played, and not only did i play that version, but i had to wait for the various chapters to be released. They ran about $5 a piece, with the last one being $25

Right? And the core idea of there being more than one space faring people, the explanation of how the crystals work, all that stuff works. Without having to retrace everything that happened in the first game. Like they could have probably cut 2/3 of this game and still left in all the fan callbacks, had a much better game and tighter story.

I had been waiting for a sequel to thia game since i was 8 years old when i played Final Fantasy II on snes (Now known as Final Fantasy IV) I happened to find it one day browsing Gamestops PSP selection. Absolutely love this game with a passion and loved how they wrapped everything up with this one!
Anyone else notice that the soldiers on the airship with Ceodore are Star Wars references? Biggs and Wedge.

With a vast collection of playable characters enough to construct three parties, I thought that this game will do something similar like Final Fantasy VI in the Final Dungeon but it was a straight shot to the end and you can do it with one balanced
team.
Ceodore's another Terra, blonde hair in the cutscene, a dyed colour in the game like blue or green.

Yeah, I agree. Although, to be fair, in retrospect I realize now the original game was just one Failure Is The Only Option moment after another. Eh...that's what happens the first time you try to build the game around a story. It goes the anime/manga route where the heroes keep failing continuously until they reach the point where one more failure means the end of the world so now the Author has to let them win.

It sounds like you say Fusoya's name as Pussya and that's hilarious to me.
Wow so the end of this had parallels to Omega Deltascape from Stormblood (all the monsters are from "other worlds" aka other final fantasy games and summoned to challenge the player), and to Meteion from Endwalker (all the hive-mind blue hair mystery girls sent around the universe to try to find a suitable way to nurture life), and to FF16 Ultima (the crystals were made by Creator as measuring/experiment devices, humans were inconsequential to his plan and he decides to dispose of them, but they then kill god to assert their own right to exist). They really do draw a lot from past entries

Awesome video, it got a lot of hate but I’m glad to have played it. FF4 is one of my favorite games of all time and it gives you just a little bit more of that vibe if that’s what you’re looking for. It’s by no means incredible but if you know what you’re in store for before going into it you can absolutely enjoy it. Be prepared for a grind.

The one, and only, thing I enjoyed about "The After Years" was it essentially brought back the Double, Triple, Etc. Techs that I loved in "Chrono Trigger"...but even those were hardly worth it. I finally pull off that five ninja one, see the pitiful amount of damage it does, and I'm like: "What the crap?"

Honestly if it wasn’t for the whole “having to fight the same enemies and getting the same equipment” for each chapter...I had no issues with its design. I don’t want someone recreating ffiv. But I do want some feels.

Final Fantasy IV predicted the rise and fall of the Detroit Red Wings.
I only got as far into TAY as to get to the final chapter of the game. I already took down the bosses from past FF games, and I just took down one of the bosses from the third FF.
Is it just me, or does Palom act the way he is because of low self esteem? I may be reading too deep into it, but maybe his personality soured to such a point because he was shut down by those above him and his sister. His desire for power and recognition could be because of that. Sure, he’s impulsive as a kid, but that much bitterness could fester. That sharp tone with Porom when they are adults could partly be because she felt she needed to discipline him. Or maybe I’m reading too much into this and he’s just like this.
We really need a sequel for Golbez and FuSoYa. I want to see Golbez redeem himself and become a Paladin like Cecil

Yes you need to fight the dark knight with a certain party from what I remember
Your team has to be at least Ceodore, Cecil, Rosa, and Golbez otherwise you lose Golbez. The 5th member can be anyone else.

Considering how many of the old FF games do this crossover thing, where you face bosses from other games. I'd love a game that explores this idea of the Creator's mission and the Crystals connecting other old FF games. Imagine a game similar to Dissidia in that it has all manner of classic FF characters, but plays like a standard FF game instead of an Arcade Fighter. Hell! The main character could be Gilgamesh, considering how many games he's touched on. Imagine having a team consisting of Rydia, Faris, Gau, Ingus, and Desch! What wacky hijinks a game like that could have.
FF4 will always be my favorite FF game, and its sequel does it great service. I know that for the most part, opinions are VERY mixed, but for what it was, and what it offered, I greatly enjoyed it. Going in blind and on a whim, my dick became insanely erect when Kain went from "kinda cool" to "amazing epic" when he became a holy dragoon. Seeing Rydia is always worthwhile. Getting to use Golbez appeased me in a way I didn't think I could be appeased (he's like a black mage paladin, it's awesome!!). The retake on old dungeons was very cool, while most were still very much the same, having a few new screens or new maps altogether kept things fresh. A lot of the new characters also made things very enjoyable. While the ninjas were... just useless, Leonora was fun, Ursula was very fun, and Luca was a hoot to use (all foes are in melee range for her!). The bands were very fun to try, I tried to figure out a lot of them alone, without gamefaqs, which made battles very interesting.

Scripted battles aside, are the difficulty spikes at least less bs in this game? FF4 always felt like you were underleveled no matter how much you grinded and it just wasn't fun to play. Does this at least fix that issue?
Ffiv used fixed levels for new characters, meaning that until you had your final party you didn't see all that much benefit from grinding other than Cecil's level after becoming a paladin.

I love FFIV, but I'm not a big fan of The After Years. It feels like all those fan-made sequels on SNES (I rememebr playing Link to the Past and Chrono Trigger's ''quasi-sequels'' like that). It's just copies the original too much.

Gilgamesh and the Spirit Train were bosses hidden in the crystals from 'other worlds'? Does this mean all final fantasy games canonically share one universe without the dissidia stuff?! That's a great twist for the function of the crystals in all the final fantasy games! Recording and monitoring devices aimed at stimulating evolution for an alien species to come in and take over! Sick plot twist. I guess that means the same thing is true for the rest of the crystals in all of the other FF games.

Sadly this just sounds like someone's fanfiction was realized... and so many ideas are revisited... and all the battles where you are set up to lose and then win sound like a headache...

You do realize that the big twist in the original game was that all of the Blue Planet's advancements (magic, airships, etc) was thanks to KluYa teaching everyone how to do it, right? And he did all of that just a couple years or so before Cecil was even born.

Have not played this game, but played the original and two of its remakes and loved every moment of it. Seeing this video, I'm kind of glad I skipped this pretty unnecessary sequel. The story is fine and dandy, though a little convoluted and disjointed. The origin and motive of the Creator could be a little more fleshed out with its own chapter or at least a cutscene, and the introduction of the character actually could have been a really good way to explain how there are so many different Final Fantasy storylines, yet there are still constants among them (like summons, magics, roles, and crystals). All the re-visitations to characters from the original game are nice, since a lot of them became fan favorites, but they are followed by way too many new characters that get shoehorned in to being associated with the original lineup, all the while not being different from them in any meaningful way. Most are played off as children and apprentices, but some literally appear out of thin air as people that retcon the original story.
If I had an overarching complaint about how the gameplay appears, it is that it has way too many scripted fights (looking at you mystery girl), out of place fights (the gauntlet at the end, which had characters from other Final Fantasy games who were not a part of this one's lore at all, which itself followed a gauntlet of most of the original game's major bosses), and just not enough original fights. The only new bosses introduced here are literally just the mystery girl, Cecil (kinda sorta), and the Creator.
The game seems to want to callback to the original game, and feed off of that, more than being its own game, which detracts from all the good things this game could have offered.

The G-Wing It's actually pretty simple. I play the iOS edition so maybe it's much more different from the version you play. Just having one status resistance means that bad breath will have zero effect on your party members. So my entire party is always immune to bad breath... Malboros are real easy in the iOS version. Otherwise just farm some ribbons if need be
Javier Teng It's like that in Complete Collection, too. In FFIV, the rune armlets you can get right before slyph cave are lifesavers.
I like farming imps for 30 hours to be OP lvl and crush my enemies. Because of the chapter system, you lose your progress on every character. I didn’t like that.
Found out the hard way if you don't have Ceodore, Cecil and Rosa in the party Golbez dies...
Really? You didn’t even play “the mysterious girl theme” the most epic song of the game.
This game forces everyone to confront that the last parts of FFIV was kinda stupid. We go from a righteous person following an evil empire and struggling to defy them to a plot about aliens on the moon and it turns out all the tech on earth came from them. Oh and remember that girl Cecil spared and was what motivated him to becoming a paladin? She's also part of a group of people that call upon eidolons, which are a thing btw, and she was having her own game off screen.
So everyone but Fusoya gets a happy ending

They need to follow up with return of zeromus where. Golbez and fusoya come back possessed and a cast of 40 starts the game with only 10 survivors. Kill the entire original cast.
