Holy crap! People casting Meteor to death, selflessly turning themselves to stone to stop walls from crushing their friends, and another HAND DETONATING A BOMB!? The party in this game dies such epic deaths that songs should be sung about them for generations!
@johnwarner4178 their sacrifices were born of pure hearts and innocent blood. Death had no right to keep them. Dost thou not know of the deep "magic"?!
This game is what turned me into an RPG fan as a kid way back in the early '90s. I played FF1 on the NES and Dragon Warrior too, but they were a little too difficult and hard for me to grasp as a young child. Everything about this game drew me in immediately. The beautiful sprites, amazing music, the story and characters, all had such an amazing charm to them. It doesn't get as much praise as some of the later games in the series (specifically FF6 and 7), but for the time this game was the pinnacle of RPG's and I'm glad I played it when I did. And I'm even more happy that they did a proper pixel remaster of it. Thanks for the video!
It's amazing how they were so comfy in doing it because they did it together. And also sad. Heartless beasts don't differentiate between adults and kids when they attack.
I remember being 9 years old and trying every.single.item to help them. I was so distraught. And I still remember the gut wrenching feeling of when I walked away. Holy shit I felt so awful like I failed them.
This is the series that brings in the most viewers so I guess that checks out. Although we would love for some of our other videos to find an audience as well. Someday!
Now I want to play FF4 just to watch your recap :) You are extremely talented in covering all the necessary story information without making it a 4h long video. Sometimes I rewatch some of your “complete story” videos of FFs I played just because I really enjoy your style, voice and humor. Best of luck to you and your channel! I appreciate your work very much.
you are one of the best story teller I have found in this entire community! Love the way you narrated. It would be better if you put english subtitle too. Anyway, please keep it up!
Ah yes, the Final Fantasy game of no stakes. I kid, but it is a bit weird that everyone in the party survives except Tellah. We lose Sara, Edge's parents, and the King of Baron, but everyone else miraculously survives deaths that really should have ended them. Edward, Polom, and Palom surviving makes sense. Yang's survival is ridiculous, but at least they show that the fairies saved him from his sacrifice. Rydia's survival is equally contrived, but acceptable. Cid's survival, on the other hand, is just insane. The dude died in an explosion big enough to collapse a tunnel to the underground. He just randomly appears alive and well with no explanation whatsoever besides "he got lucky". The dude blew himself up with a giant explosive and then crashed into the ground at terminal velocity. The dude should have been ATOMIZED by that.
They're definitely on our radar but we haven't made any real plans to cover them. We don't rule it out though. We've almost exclusively been doing work on Final Fantasy but it might be fun to do some other JRPGs as well.
This is the definitive version of Final Fantasy. Unique job per character, a world map, random battles, and the binding elements- crystals, eidolons, etc. FFIX is my favorite in the series but Cecil is the best FF character (Vivi came close but didn't have a solid ending). The best of the pixel series (I-VI). The 3D remake made good use of the camera during scenes. The best iteration of the game. But they could've made the music timing much better. The music in most scenes were out of place, didn't match the mood.
I'm a huge fan of FFVI, but FFIV was the first truly enjoyable experience after the gateway drug that was the original. When the first game came out, my middle school friends and I couldn't wait to play it. Personally, by the time I started renting the game, I found it extremely interesting, but also almost prohibitively difficult. FFIV was much more lenient, had a far better story, and literally took us to the moon. As far as best FF character, Cecil makes a strong case. As much as I like FFVI, the 14 party members are almost too many, and I'd consider at least six of them to be main characters (Terra, Locke, Edgar, Sabin, Celes, Cyan). Cecil owned FFIV from the opening scene, being the only permanent party member. While I like Rydia, Rosa, Yang, Kain, and others, they spend lengthy portions of the game off-screen. Cecil is also one of the few who FF characters who have a redemption arc. Terra starts FFVI as an enslaved soldier of the Empire, while Celes is a former general of the same, but we don't know much about what they did prior to the events of the game. Cecil, as a Dark Knight, has been seizing crystals for his Kingdom of Baron, and violently subjugating all those who oppose him. Falling from grace with the King, he ends up at the mercy of the Mysidians before undertaking Mount Ordeals and becoming the Paladin that it seems he was always destined to be. It's an early-1990s RPG, lacking the depth of later titles, but somehow getting everything just right for the time.
great retelling of a great story about deception, delusion, remorse and the virtues that carry us through. Really liked the game genie codes used 9999/1300 hp. Still. Kefka makes a more wholesome villain than Zeromus
This was my entrance to the wonderful genre of the JRPG! I could not care less what they claim about FF6 or FF7. THIS is the best Final Fantasy there is for me. Maybe because I'm a Christian and the story most represents the Biblical narrative more than any other fictional material I have ever come across, save possibly the Chronicles of Narnia
sorry to only watch half of this, but this is the PERFECT video lmao. i just save Yang and it's been a long time since I played so I had NO idea wtf I was doing in the story lol
First final fantasy game I beat. However, after getting stuck on Zeromus for so long I decided to use cheats but everything else was done legitimately. One day I'm going to replay the game and defeat Zeromus legitamately. Edit: Finally beat Zeromus legit. Apparently using powerful spells like bahamut and holy makes him counter with bing bang and bio so I had Cecil, Edge, and Kain attack whilst Redia and Rosa heal
I know this is an old comment but if you save instead all of your swords and have edge throw them all at zeromous and have everyone use their most powerful magic and weapons. Easy work!
When i was a kid playing FFIV on my snes, i had the idea to farm the security eye mob that casts alert to summon monsters. I got so much XP that I ran to my parents asking for the camera, so i could take a picture.
This video is great but the sound mix is problematic. The voice gets covered by the super loud music often. Keep it up but I suggest being less aggressive with the music track!
I'd say it's on our to-do list but the next complete story video will be for Final Fantasy V. Then we will have all the mainline games expect for XI (although we've only covered A Realm Reborn for XIV so far...)
@@BirdsOfPlay is there any plans to do XI? I started playing a couple months ago, and it has an interesting story, though it can be hard to follow with how the different expansions are so mixed together. I can understand not doing that one.
@@JLorak13 there is at least a dream to do it. It's the only mainline Final Fantasy we haven't really played, aside from a few hours back in the day. Hopefully we will get there since I think making its story more accessible is important.
@@BirdsOfPlay Sorry bud. I wasn't assuming A.I. wrote this. Like the telling of the first Final Fantasy I ever owned and beat! You were wrong on one thing: Tellah never learned Meteor at any point until Mt. Ordeals. What he forgotten and recalled after Cecil became a paladin was basically every other Black and White Magic spell, save Flare and Holy. He was in search of the ultimate Black Magic and was drawn to Mt. Ordeals because of it, and afterwards the light, Kluya, granting him that knowledge. Otherwise, good job 👍

This was the first game i remember getting really emotional about...when the twins sacrificed themselves i definitely shed some tears
I worry that people who don't feel anything during that scene are made of stone... Just like the twins.
