Im pretty sure that Glorfindel has been most people's low-key favorite Character for decades.... it's almost subconscious the way he works his way into Tolkien fan's hearts. Legend!!! 🌌
You know what makes me happy. It's how much these stories, through channels like this, are becoming exactly what tolkien dreamed they would be, a neo-Anglo mythology. How good.
I think though once you hit the top most powerful guys in middle earth it's hard to do anything less. Easy to go up in power level but hard to go back down. Explaining him and Tom B would have been too difficult in those films
I'd love a series on him ofc I would. But imagine Aragorn being as much of a hero or legolas when he's there looking significantly more capable even to gandalf he stands taller
In The Fellowship of the Ring (film), Glorfindel's role in guiding Frodo Baggins to Rivendell is filled by Arwen, though he does appear during the prologue when Sauron is defeated. In The Return of the King, Glorfindel is seen walking next to Arwen as she is having her vision of her son Eldarion during the journey to the Grey Havens. In his last appearance, he is seen at the crowning of King Elessar, behind Legolas and in front of Arwen. In all appearances in the movies he has no speaking lines.
Glorfindel always showed up right after the Witch-King left the scene. Sort-of like how Clark Kent and Peter Parker always missed the valorous deeds of Superman and Spiderman yet somehow were "right there" after the superheroes disappeared.
I found your channel while watching the Great news about the new Hunt for Gollum announcement on Nerd of the Rings. I had to subscribe. Love your channel and look forward to binging! RIP Bernard. 🖖😎🤘🇨🇦🕊️
It's not about the feats but also about character, that's why Glorfindel tops other badass elfs and their badass feats since few actually had the character and inspired so many to be better
Favorite elf - Beleg of Doriath Glorfindel is definitely a top 15 elf in terms of power especially after being reincarnated. You’d have to put Fingolfin, Luthien, Fingon, Turgon, Feanor, Maedhros, Thingol, Ecthelion, Finrod, and Galadriel in front of him. Maybe a few of the other feanorians, Elrond, and Gilgalad
As great as Glorfindel is, I'm gonna have to go with Ecthelion of the Fountain as my favourite. Taking on 2 dragons and 4 balrogs, including Gothmog pretty much trumps everyone.
Indeed. Ecthelion’s final moments are probably my favorite in the whole legendarium. I think it’s cool that he Tolkien doesn’t give that moment to an obvious character that is at the focal point in the story. In the grand scheme of the whole narrative, Ecthelion is somewhat obscure, and yet, he has the greatest end.
@agnosticdevotee agree. That is another top five moment for me. That being said, Fingolfin is the high king. Echthelion is just a noble. My list of favorite scenes of battling evil goes: 1. Fingolfin’s death 2. Echthelion’s death 3. Gil Galad and Elendil’s death 4. Glorfindel’s death 5. Luthien singing Morgoth to sleep (Fingon’s death in The Battle of Unnumbered Tears is sad but awesome also)
From a valor standpoint ecthelion and fingolfin are the stand outs. Feanor, fingon, glorfinfel, tuor and turin in close second. However, the former take the cake: Ecthelion slays 4 balrogs of which one of them is gothmog, and fingolfin has the balls of steel to challenge morgoth in a 1v1 fight. Nothing ever is as badass as these confrontations in the tolkien legendarium
He gave of self sacrifice more then any of the others and did not get renown. He was born.at the Lake of Awakening filled with the deep desire to go to Valinor but stayed millineum after millineum to see the ships going west for others could be made and sent. He never wavered in his heart of deep caring at his exspense. He is the definition of Noble
The House of Finarfin is also known as the "Golden House of Finarfin". As a Noldor belonging to the House of the Golden Flower of Glorfindel, I theorize that he may belong to the House of Finarfin due to this common bond established through gold. I attribute his presence in Turgon's community to the closeness between the Houses of Fingolfin and Finarfin.
@@markstott6689 I'm sure he would say he was driven to take such drastic actions. Admittedly, he is flawed, but I like a character with some edge - Glorfindel is a bit 'wet'; one is able to predict what he would do in given any scenario with certainty
I think Fingolfin and Glorfindel are two of the most remarkable badass elves. I so wished he would’ve been brought to the big screen in Fellowship of the Rings.
Where was Glorfindel during the fall of Gondolin? Oh yeah, he showed up years later with some cockamamey story about how he died after killing a balrog. He was also notably absent throughout the years of terror under the Witch-King's rule. Or was he? Glorfindel was a double agent spy for Melkor the whole time. He was unaffected by the One Ring and offered no advice toward its destruction, as he held a ring of power also. Think about it. He always seemed to show up "just after" the Nazgul left the scene, in time to clean up whatever mess they made. Glorfindel was, in fact, the Witch-King. He ruled from Carn Dum in Angmar until it no longer suited his and Sauron's needs, then he showed up in Rivendell. Glorfindel: "Hey, guys! Remember me?" Elrond: "Wow, Glorfindel! Where have you been all these years?" Glorfindel: "Well, you see... umm..." Elrond: "I heard you killed a balrog." Glorfindel: "You heard what? I mean, yeah! That's what happened, I killed a balrog! I wasn't at all ruling over the fall of humanity as an evil overlord far to the north until Sauron could regain the essence of his former power and glory. Nope, nope, no... I was stuck in Valinor after killing that one balrog that nobody else saw, and now I'm conveniently back to discuss this ring you guys seem to have found..."
Who is your favourite Elf?
Is anyone’s Glorfindel?! 😁
Unquestionably
Undoubtedly ❤❤❤
He's my LOTR tag on Reddit.
Oof I'd say Glorfindel, but sadly Fingolfin exists
Fingolfin or Cirdan
Feanor
Im pretty sure that Glorfindel has been most people's low-key favorite Character for decades.... it's almost subconscious the way he works his way into Tolkien fan's hearts. Legend!!! 🌌

How good.
I killed a balrog and helped rescue Frodo, but I can’t get a movie deal.
Hear, hear.

I just re-read The Fellowship and I love Glorfindel's part in it so much!
Noro lim! Noro lim, Asfaloth!

Sad very sad

Glorfindel is one of the greatest elves ever lived. He is definitely at the top 😊
God bless you and your work sir 😇😇😇 deep respect from Croatia-Europe 💜💜💜
I feel his prophecy of the witch kings demise has been overlooked 👀. Great video though!
Fingolfin for me. Permanently wounding a God in single combat has to be up there in the feats of Middle Earth.
Anyone with a Blind Guardian song written about them is top tier.

Noro lím, noro lím, Asfaloth. A glorious character I wish we could read more about. Thank you for this video🌞

Glorfindel reminds me a bit of Zhao Yun from Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Saint Celestine from Warhammer 40k.

The soul of a hero the heart of a champion the power of a god ( Maiar level powers)
Fantastic video. Congrats.
I've always wondered why Ecthelion wasn't also brought back and sent back. He was just as noble as Glorfindel
Nice work dude thanks
My favorite elf is Feanor, specifically because he's so terrible.
Somewhat more seriously, I always found Cirdan fascinating.
Only 14 minutes for probly one of the greatest through basically all ages...
Idk what to comment but I like your takes and I hope we get Chapter 3 at least some time this year. cheers
My favorite elf is Glorfindel and my beautiful 2 year old Belgian Tervuren is named after him.
My favorite elf is Círdan the Shipwright. But Glorfindel is a fantastic character.

6:09 The result of accidentally using the same name twice in your books.
Kudos to JRRT for turning a mistake into an opportunity. Same with Elrond/Elros
Thranduil is my favourite elf with Legolas no 2.
I am a bit biased when it comes to elves because of the movie trilogy ie Hobbit and LOTR . 🥴
Chills
I wonder what life in the Halls of Mando's would look like.
I think he is the greatest of the elves
In Peter Jackson's trilogy,🎥 of 12 hours , with editional material, Glorfindel appears on screen for exactly forty-five seconds 😢
I still dont understand why Glorfindel didnt fight Sauron, not Gil Galad.
It makes sense Sauron was rebuilding his strength as he was damaged from the sinking of numenor yet hey never faced face to face
Glorfindel, Luthien and Gildor Inglorion...
All those who have been mentioned are simply playing for second best - Fëanor is the one true elven GOAT
He's far too flawed for my tastes. Aided by his sons, he perpetrated far too much evil. 😢
@@markstott6689 I'm sure he would say he was driven to take such drastic actions. Admittedly, he is flawed, but I like a character with some edge - Glorfindel is a bit 'wet'; one is able to predict what he would do in given any scenario with certainty

I wonder, what of the great Elven strongholds would you all prefer to die in of the first age?...
Being elven, I'd hope to survive the First Age. I'm sure that the Halls of Mandos are bearable, but I'd rather sail to Tol Eressëa in one piece. 😊❤😊
I’m Glorfindel and Fingolfin combined
😍😍😍✅✅✅
Goldie Inglorin just kidding. My favorite Elf is Elwe, Elu Thingol Greymantle.
*Gildor.
The only Elf besides Gandalf Arwen and Elrond and lady Galadriel to face the Ringwraiths and kill a Balrog
You forgot Gandolf
