This is probably my favorite lotr channel. I can tell the narrator really knows his stuff and I love when he uses textual evidence to support his claims
Maybe Earnur was Witch King's primary target for his lack of wisdom and for his great warior skills, so he turned him into a Nazgul in a similar way that Talion was turned into... Great video, good luck on The Guard and the Tabletop Alliance...
Thats what they did in Lord of the Rings Online. The main antagonisy of the First expansion was Eranur, turned into a lesser wraith (a Cargul) similae tk the nine (likely created by being woundsd by a morgul blade). He became the Right hand of the Witch king and was sent to rebuild angmar to attack the North. (And nooo! War in the North came way after this game!)

Elendil, Anarion and Isildur were actually the first Kings in exile after the fall of Numenor. That's possibly what you remembered, them being the last of Numenor?
I can imagine everyone around him saying how much of a bad idea it was to to face the Witch King in single combat on his own ground! Imagine it had gone the other way, with the Witch King being challenged and arriving at Minas Tirith for combat but as soon as he shows up he gets jumped and filled in by the King of Gondon and his host (but they don't tell anyone that part)......you can see how it went both ways.
When Earnur died, Isildur’s heir was alive, (actually Arahael (or Arahant) son of Aranarth son of Arvedui, TA 2012-2177), but presumably hidden (living secretly in Rivendell). I’m not sure why at that time, Third Age 2050, there were seemingly no significant efforts to find that heir to replace Earnur and so carry on the line of kings. The Gondorians were well aware of Arvedui and his children. Though Arnor was no more, it’s former royal house had the rightful claim to the throne of Gondor, as Aragorn, Arahael’s descendent, was later to demonstrate.

So the original kings of Gondor ended the same way as the Ruling Stewards as Faramir was never considered a Ruling Steward, with a mad man! Earnur was told the Witch-King would not fall by the hand of a man and Earnur was a man! A man went to fight someone who could not be killed by a man! Earnur was king, but never had a son. He knew he was the last of the House of Anarion and if he didn't have a son the line would end and he left without a heir! How stupid! Or mad! I doubt Mardil wanted power, but surely it was his duty to make sure Earnur had a son to succeed him? Earnil II was a great warrior and fair king and man, but his greatest failure was not making his son have a son to continue the kingship.
Is it worth exploring the merits of Aragorn's claim to Gondor? Because his right is really through Elendil, not Isildur. My understanding is that this is one reason why Denethor always regarded Thorongil with skepticism. Can anyone enlighten me on the nuance?
Wait if he was the last king, and since he is the son of isildurs brother, then how is Aragorn the descendant of isildur if both of Elendeals lines were broken?
Maybe who knows. But he was probably surrounded by several nazgul in Minas Morgul. And he had likely no fire to chase them away with. So he probably died there. It would have been difficult to take him alive and then take him to Shelob.
Sucks that we really only ever got one solid book from Tolkien. He wrote Lord of the Rings, intending it to be one book, the publisher made him split it into three. The Hobbit, while awesome was a children's book and The Silmarillion was finished and edited by his son Christopher postmortem.
@@MatthewBrown-bf5lz Aragorn comes from the line of Kings of Arnor and his Father was Arathorn Chieftain of the Dunedain. I think there was even debate in the books amongst some Gondorians if Aragorn (not a heir of Anarion) had the right to claim the southern throne.

Earnur the Foolish. To agree to go to Minas Morgul alone, calling him "the Foolish" is a generous understatement.
