It amazes me, everyone wants to be a critic. They can do it this way, or I would have done it that way. You came here to watch the video. I know, here's a clue. What's the title of today's video ? Chad already stated, it was a favor to a friend. He's spending no money, just time. And using scraps of metal in the shop. Doesn't need to be perfect, just repaired. I got all that, just from listening to what he said.
Why can't people just watch and enjoy? If you don't like what's being done just stop video. He explains everything to us. It seems like their all lots of people that has to complain how he does things. Just chill and watch. Grab a cold one.
Thanks for the video. I am a newbie with zero welding skills. I can't afford going to a body repair shop so I am learning on my own. My truck needs this done and I am confident now that I will be able to get it done. Awesome camera work also! I know it's a quick patch job for passing inspection but you really helped me build my confidence to do it myself. Thanks for your knowledge sharing and I did learn!!! God bless you both.
This is the VERY REASON that I like to watch Chad ! Showing someone how to fix something without BREAKING THE BANK $$$. This is how someone can learn, apply and enjoy fixing their own projects without feeling like they have to have a very elaborate shop with super expensive tools (that most people will never afford to have). Great job! Great content ! Keep it up Chad. This is what I call “Makin Due- with that you’ve Got”. Take chicken 💩 and make chicken salad. 👍🏽😎
Yesterday I would have got back with you but I don't know how. You dont have to give me anything I just like watching you do what you do best. I'am 70 years old and live in the USA in Ohio down on the Ohio River so thanks you for what you do God Bless
It is really amazing how you do jobs like this on the fly. By doing jobs like this it is really helpful to your viewers to see how they can do it. Thank you Chad, Jolene, and Fina. Bill
I watched your video because I have the cursed rusty corners on my 150. I know very little about body repairs. I do know a little about blacksmithing and its traditions. I don’t know if what you did is right or not but I see in your skill set some of those traditional intuitive skills of working with metal that you can’t learn except by rolling up your sleeves. I really enjoyed watching you work to complete the corners. Shame ford created this mess in the first place. Good luck and keep up the good work.
I love bad Chad’ Channel and just seeing your comments so I quickly checked out your page and I subscribe because that’s the kind of stuff I like and later today I will do some binge watching on your TH-cam channel and it sure does look interesting so will see you later !!
Hi bud, just watching your vid patching can corners. Wow man I'm 75 yrs old now, I loved in swanton, Vt in the early 70s thru the ninties,it's the last stop before you cross into canada. It would snow ads deep to a giraffe every winter, and I worked in Essex Junction By 41 miles south. I had to have a pickup truck cause I loved deep in the country outside Swanton. I loved living there, the schools were excellent too. I always bought Ford - F 250 4 by . I needed a Fisher power angle plow, just to get to the interstate. So that's why I bought Ford's as I kept my plow and it would fit in a new pickup easily. They used so much salt on all the roads up there, if have to do what you're doing quite often, can corners, door bottoms, wheel lips, can floors. I made all my own stuff cause I had a family to take care of. I did all my repairs with basic tools welder not wrench hammers visegrips. I'd do all my body work between April and september, then I'd primer several coates, then undercoat when done. I couldn't see buying a new truck every three years, so I extended the life of my truck by years.I would paint it when it was done, and it looked fine and lasted long time. I'm Vt, every vehicle rusted caddies, lincolns, mercedes, and the map cars and small trucks would rust down so bad I called them Flintstone mobiles. Have a great evening, keep up the vids, I enjoy them!!!!
Chad you have really inspired us to get out and do what we dream. It is so wonderful to see you and Jolene working together. I thank God for you and what you do. Thanks for taking time to show us how it's done. It's been a blessing.
This is a tough fix for most people to do but you did it right. I really don't understand why modern trucks are still built to where water and mud can get trapped in these same spots and rust out. You don't see many modern cars that have this issue but I see it on late-model trucks all of the time. Same thing goes for truck frames no excuse they can and should be built more rust-resistant, especially considering the cost of trucks today.
I have read all of the comments to date some good and some not so. One thing at this point that I could add is that the statement that was made at the start was lost or misunderstood "This video will show how to simplify rust repair without spending any money on replacement panels. Repairing rusted cab corners on Ford F150 in real time with basic tools and scrap metal. This will be a quick and easy fix to pass inspection". Also, Chad don't let others get into your head it will eat you up it use to bother me when I was young but now that I'm 70+ not so. Yes, as others put it you have your way and they have theirs I respect yours in this post because you placed yours out there for all to see. Keep it real, nice camera work Jolene and Good girl FINA. 😁
Thank you for doing this I have the same truck and didn't want to buy the corners and rokers and have been ignoring it you have motivated me to do it thank you
Great cab corner job nicely done with patients. Waiting to see the rockers next. I'm working on my 2001 dodge ram 4x4 did bed off frame, messy rusty mess all cleaned and blasted and painted, Now my bed next mess I took it cut out the rust (outside my garage so sparks flew outside) Now bed back in garage for rebuild 6.5 type bed. But be nice clean when I'm done like your doing.
With little round corners like that I usually bend a piece if thin wall pipe the same size as the curve and weld it in. I learned that trick from George Barris, rather than trying to make a complicated curve it's easier to weld 2 flat pieces to the bent pipe.
@@Milner62 I can find materials all over the place. Someone always has a car in their yard they will give me for a little body work or mechanic work. My friends are always dropping of stuff that they no longer need like exhaust pipe or sheet metal and body shops will give you stuff just to get rid of it. I could build a car from the scraps I get for free.
Some have talk about easier to buy new An repair it that way but no one noticed What chadd is doing He is teaching others how to fix it yourself it may have been cheaper to buy the part but did you learn how to fix it ? That's what he is about passing his knowledge along to others Iam a 70 year old man I just wish my dad Or someone had taken time to teach me The basics of he is doing back when I was much younger man so watch listen An learn
it always amazes me what bad Chad gets done in one hour😮😮. The man is a beast and that’s all that’s to it. It would take a lot of people an hour just to make a game plan🤔🤔😉. In my shop we would have to look at it the night before and talk it over with a six pack of beer🍺🍺🤭….. or more😝😝 !!!
Good job Chad 👍 it’s a metal patch work quilt. I love working with it. You can weld and hammer and grind it into any shape you need. Great job as always Queen Jolene. And I love how Fina always makes her appearance ❤
Not to bad for an hour. I like how every time he hit the new metal more rust fell out. The old cab corner was on the floor at the end. I own a 2014 f150 after seeing this I'm thinking of buying inner and out rockers , and corners for both sides now before I actually need them. I'm not as good as he is to make my own panels. It will be easier for me in the long run. I wish I had my own "Chad" I could take my truck. Good job Chad and Jolene.
You should see my NH 04 F350🤣. He did a killer job for an hour. My first doing a wheel well took me like 8hrs. 1st time welding & did some fiberglass too. No doubt he's a seasoned veteran. 👍🏻 Awesome video!
Getting ready to do 2 jeeps. Cant help myself. We love Jeeps, 1999-2004 body styles all the same. I was lucky, had one that was hit twice by uninsured motorists, so I am cutting out body pieces to weld on to my other Jeeps - But, I still have some spots that need fabbing. This was a fantastic learning experience. Especially love the 3rd arm trick.
Best project movie in town where endearing family members combine to perform priceless, valuable roles in demonstration of how to best gain mastery of accelerating corrosion for an appreciative audience.A sight for eyes sore from crying over a corrupted motor industry.(A woman's view).
Thank You. I have a 2003 Chevy S-10 with cab corners and the seals under the door rusted out. This shows me how to fix it. Question though what thickness metal do I need for this repair. And thank you for teaching me how to repair it
Great camera work Jolene, Chad you are showing the ongoing task of keeping so many East Coast vehicles on the road and passing inspection. So many cars and trucks and not enough guys like Chad.
Hi, Chad do what you can with the budget you have . In my 20s had a 65 impala for a winter car because I did not want to drive my 68 charger in the winter. The bottoms of the doors were rotted, Took the metal from an a62 dodge coronet and pop rivet them on. Repainted it at a friend s house who painted cars at a local body shop, We painted it red-orange with white lace 2 stripes on the hood and trunk' Had a black vinyl roof, We did proper bodywork before painting.
U r a pro!! Your way is your way god bless you! I’ve learned an awe full lot from you!! Thank you for your knowledge and experience!! The best to you! I’m a novice just needing to learn.
Thanks for the tips. I'm in exactly the same situation right now so you've helped me. You using a 120 welder without gas? That's what I've got currently so you're giving me hope. I thought I might have to use rivets. 😅
Thank's a big ol bunch Bad Chad. This is exactly what I was looking for. My 1984 F250 is gonna get something like this. Although it's clearly gonna take me 10 hours!
Yeah brother! I did my 04 F350 wheel well in about 8hrs. Cost me about $100. I saved a ton over going to a professional. Chad is beast, I wish I had his talent.
Those corners, decent ones are available from auto parts stores, no need to go online, its a pain. They get it, if wrong its on them, no shipping either. I have fabbed many parts that way tho, sometimes its improved. What size wire you like?, just got a new Lincoln after my Miller was stolen, i liked .030 on sheet metal. Can run up to .035. Great video btw!
I don’t care if what chad an Jolene do is right or wrong,,I really enjoy watching them in all they do,,keep on doing what you guys do,,I love you guys an fina too. 👍👍😀
The ole coat hanger gap fill trick 😂 nice job bro, that’s a common thing on late model trucks and even my Tahoes got a spot that’s trashed I’m gonna fix now, might even hit it wit the old coat hanger trick, if not I’ll be using it plenty soon 😂 I’m gonna take a wild gander at what you charged this guy, and say prolly 1200-1500.00 bucks. If less, he’s lucky and got off easy. The time it takes to do the job means nothing
Good evening jolene and chad hope your having a wonderful day and doing well also thank you for sharing your information and knowledge and I think you should do more videos like this as well for people that want to get by
It is amazing how people allow this rust damage to happen. I have read that Ziebart is actually worse than nothing but there are penetrating oils now used that actually work to prevent corrosion. I have a 2006 F-150 that looks new underneath and on the exterior because I live in Texas and the vehicle has never seen salt. The only thing I did for it was use a mixture of MEK and 60 weight motor oil spraying it in all cavities, underneath the vehicle, under the hood, in the doors, and inside all fenders. This was just to make sure that the pristine structure was protected from all the rain we get in SE Texas.
Nice job old school i used to Repair cars like this in the 80s for are English mot not many people have skills to do this anymore we like you know they in two or three years will be in the scrap yard anyway
learned a lot. thanks for the lesson . my body repair man told me it would cost me extra if I wanted to help him fix my 06 f150 . he said go fishing for the day, lol
I wish I was good at doing metal work because it would save me money from buying prefabbed pieces or getting someone to build the piece for me if they don't make it. It's a good skill to know and learn. I always practice when I have spare time to do it anyway great job Chad
Anyone saying it's cheaper to buy the replacement panels go look at how much they cost plus say if you don't need the whole rocker and maybe just cut a square out and then just bend it you'll probably spend 20$ at the depot for a tiny peice of 18 gauge, I've been doing what Chad does to my trucks even before I knew about him and he's really good at it, he makes it look easy, it's not at all.. first there's warping if you get to hot, then if you don't get the metal flush good luck blending it in, and not to mention he thin metal on the truck you'll be burning holes through constantly
I love it. Great job we need more people out there showing things like this that are easy to do. What a nice way to make it. Not complicated. Great video piss on the critics.
some magnets would help ya hold the paper in helping ya make the patterns...and i remember someone sent you a set of them.....glad to see ya do something different enjoying this video a lot...thumbs up!
I love this my friend, you do it same way I do. But you are better and faster then me. Your awsome man. The Cancars got me now doing it any more. I have done friends truck and it took me a week.
Hi Chad, great advice with the paper, I’m gonna use that However, if that angle grinder disc is gonna break and flying into your face it’s gonna be pain ? Why not use the sheild to protect you?
Great seems like something i can do in my garage with my hobby welder. I think i will try this on my truck. The dog legs have rusted off. Seems quite easier now after watching your process.
Slow down farm truck or not. It looks terrible you have a square edge when it should be chamfered. I mean who lap welds on body work, butt welds are the only way. Any job worth doing is worth doing right.
Outstanding video chad,I wasn't planning on watching these but I'm glad I did. These videos help alot of people, the others that are critiquing aren't getting their hands dirty and prob don't have a garage with a car and parts in it. Keep it up your a huge inspiration.
Helping a friend is a good thing. Repaired? Covered up is more like it. That untreated rust underneath the new metal will rust through in time . Nice skills on shaping the metal.
I get it. Just get it to pass inspection. This will never be a show piece. It’s a truck and needs to operate. It’s to do a job not be at sema. Plus I bet your customers don’t have the money to pay for you best skills or quality. The haters don’t get functionality. They want you to be Picasso every time but they ain’t paying you to be Picasso. I’m sure chad can really make high quality stuff if he had the time and unlimited funds but this dude runs a business and the customer understands that this will last a while but not forever. Hell it didn’t last forever from the factory. Just getting the ol pig back on the road. I get it. Hell i bet he did this for pennies too. Keep building Chad
Easy repair, over here any non factory welds have to be certified by a licensed body man, I made most of the lower 12 inches of a Hillman and it got signed off with no complaints
You are correct. I have done that many times while I had my own body shop. Shops now have the spot welding machines that do the factory type welds and they require less finishing. You will notice they put two pieces together and seldom ever cover the spots, just paint over the welds where they are hidden from view.
It amazes me, everyone wants to be a critic. They can do it this way, or I would have done it that way. You came here to watch the video. I know, here's a clue. What's the title of today's video ? Nice job old school i used to Repair cars like this in the 80s for are English mot not many people have skills to do this anymore we like you know they in two or three years will be in the scrap yard anyway
Thanks Chad.. These video's are great for a beginner like myself. Soon about to start some bodywork on my Syncro - T3..
Great job again, showing us how fast you can do a rust repair on any car, thanks for sharing
learned a lot. thanks for the lesson . my body repair man told me it would cost me extra if I wanted to help him fix my 06 f150 . he said go fishing for the day, lol
Looks good chad n that’s how you keep cost down you use what you got n make it work great job great filming Jolene
I wish I was good at doing metal work because it would save me money from buying prefabbed pieces or getting someone to build the piece for me if they don't make it. It's a good skill to know and learn. I always practice when I have spare time to do it anyway great job Chad
How thin that factory tin is is INSANE. I saw that and I was like, "That is thin". Like, just, wow.
Good work Chad and Jolene. You make it look easy.
More content like this. I know its not what you do usually. But this was great. Very informative for DIY.
40:53 That's old school braze welding with bronze right there. I love it.
Every Used car salesman would love him. Got to deal with the rust! I'd like to see how you deal with this issue.
First vid I’ve ever seen from you guys, feels like you need your own show 😂 great job
some magnets would help ya hold the paper in helping ya make the patterns...and i remember someone sent you a set of them.....glad to see ya do something different enjoying this video a lot...thumbs up!
I love this my friend, you do it same way I do. But you are better and faster then me. Your awsome man. The Cancars got me now doing it any more. I have done friends truck and it took me a week.
Really cool to watch & I like your educational banter. Well done.
i like how you don't skip through anything, you show all steps.
Getting it done...always something different to watch...cya tomorrow Chad and jolene
Hi Chad, great advice with the paper, I’m gonna use that
However, if that angle grinder disc is gonna break and flying into your face it’s gonna be pain ? Why not use the sheild to protect you?
More show and tips from chad 👍 thanks Jolene for filming as usual . Hi Fina
Excellent video Andy, we appreciate your work on your channel Thanks Andy.
Great job guys. 😎👍
It is always interesting to see these types of repairs
Thanks Chad and Jolene! Outstanding for sure!
Another simple fix up. Chad gets it done. Jolene is always amazing with the camera.
Great video what a simple way to do cab corners thank you chad and Jolene
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I may attempt my own?
Great seems like something i can do in my garage with my hobby welder. I think i will try this on my truck. The dog legs have rusted off. Seems quite easier now after watching your process.
Nice work Chad and great video thanks Jolene. Looking forward to see how it turns out.
Nice job that is something that seems to be a problem with a lot of newer vehicles and old vehicles thanks for the video
Thank you for mentioning the negative cable disconnect.
Looks great Chad , I'm sure your friend will be happy .
Great video Jolene, and the cab is going to look great again Chad. Hello Fina, good dog!
What did you do about the gas tank? I noticed some tape on the lid. I always get worried about fumes or something when welding. Keep on rocking!
Nothing it’s called zero fucks
Slow down farm truck or not. It looks terrible you have a square edge when it should be chamfered. I mean who lap welds on body work, butt welds are the only way. Any job worth doing is worth doing right.
I luv watching artists at play, Good onyah bro!
Great video! Just curious as an amateur, why on the first piece you did a butt weld and the rest of the pieces were overlap joints?
Outstanding video chad,I wasn't planning on watching these but I'm glad I did. These videos help alot of people, the others that are critiquing aren't getting their hands dirty and prob don't have a garage with a car and parts in it. Keep it up your a huge inspiration.
Thanks so much for doing this. A skill so many can use.
Wow you did great on the fly like that! Amazing !!
Easy repair, over here any non factory welds have to be certified by a licensed body man, I made most of the lower 12 inches of a Hillman and it got signed off with no complaints
Hey Mr you are awesome definitely a genius thank you for sharing with us god keep you happy and healthy for long time🙏👍
Any body can buy rocker panel and cab corner and glue it on what chad did is craftmanship great job bad chad from ontario
Glue it on?
Granted, I am not a body man.
But in my 60 years, I have never heard of glueing body repair panels on.
Can you please explain?
Chads skills will never get the chance to go rusty !
i think your buddy should have purchased the corners for you. They are available and pretty cheap
You are correct. I have done that many times while I had my own body shop. Shops now have the spot welding machines that do the factory type welds and they require less finishing. You will notice they put two pieces together and seldom ever cover the spots, just paint over the welds where they are hidden from view.
I would have liked to see it after he was done actually. Nice job and good tutorial
