    After watching your video, I used this method to restore my old CF hood which was in pretty bad shape. I'm happy to say that this worked so well on my hood and restored virtually the entire hood back to its original shine. Your products are amazing! Thanks for the tutorials and great products!

      Sand clean to remove any no bonding old Si & Cer polish then paint on a well bonded new clear coat.

    I just finish my entire hood I couldn't believe how new it left it looking it work great! I used a Dewalt buffer just because it offers Up to 3500 rpm. I didn't have to go that far I just used 1800 rps for the hard spots and 600 rpm for the easy spots. Bottom line the product works.

    Great video Greg. Great balance of information and advertisement of your products. Also appreciate that the footage of you using the DA was uncut. Really gives a good idea of how slow to move the machine and how much pressure to apply.
    Very interested in your new VSS product. I intend on using V36 with black optic MF pad, followed by V38 with a black hex logic as a two stage paint correction on my Black Audi A5. Could VSS really replace this two stage process and give similar results?
    Love JS109 by the way! Favourite product of yours!!

      Lewis Carpenter I would use V38 with a white hex logic finishing pad. I save the back hex as an applicator pad.

    have used Jetseal109 now for about 6 months and its awesome, i use it on my windows and paint and my wheels in conjunction with CG Wheel Guard and they look brand new even though they are 2 years old, the brake dust just washes off with Honeydew and a mit! so glad i found Chemical Guys and even happier I found Auto Obsessed in Edmonton AB so I can feed my addiction!

    I recently purchased all chemicals to do a similar job. After I was done you can still see some fine scratches. Would compound work? Or do I need to wet sand? The think is, I don't know if it's clear coat or gel coat on this trunk. What would you guys recommend?

    • @ChemicalGuys
      @ChemicalGuys  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jose, it's hard to say what treatment your carbon fiber trunk needs without knowing a. what you already did and b. if your trunk is clear or gel. Please feel free to send pictures and more details such as what products, pad, machine, and technique you used to our facebook page or email to get further assistance and to get your car looking its best. Thanks for watching, Jose, and stay tuned for more videos headed your way soon!

    Nice vid but I would have appreciated a final overhead camera pan after the sealant. Is VSS basically paint sealant?

    • @ChemicalGuys
      @ChemicalGuys  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback, an overhead camera would've been cool, we'll keep it in mind for our upcoming videos. Hmm, we wouldn't necessarily call it a sealant, more in the lines of polisher. Thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family!

    I bought every product mentioned in this video but my carbon fiber hood is just extremely bad between oxidation and slight swirl marks. I personally didn't find the VSS to do anything with cutting through this oxidation and now have to resort to wet sand then buffing and polishing

  • @JUNAID187
    @JUNAID187 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Straight buffing isn't the best method, you can tell from the video that the surface was uneven. The best method is to wetsand to a smooth finish then lightly buff to a gloss and protect. That's how I've been restoring CF for the last 3 years after poor results from just using a bugging pad.

    • @mlinecomposites1
      @mlinecomposites1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JUNAID187 I'm with you on that man! I'm a composite fabricator and this process looks like it takes to long, imagine doing this slow process on an entire hood! best results are to start over with resin, its not going to hurt the resin one bit.

    • @Q50WO
      @Q50WO 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did notice the unevenly surface. Perhaps the owner wasn't interested in evening it out? Regardless, the product/products auditioned here do not claim to even out such differences. However, what they do claim can clearly be seen as accurate in the video.

    • @JUNAID187
      @JUNAID187 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Q50WO The video title says 'how to restore carbon fiber'. This isn't restoring, it's just polishing out surface imperfections.

    Can you clear coat over the gel coat? And would that help it from fading

    • @ChemicalGuys
      @ChemicalGuys  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clearcoating would be a process done at the painters, but as you can see in the video, you can definitely add a coat of JetSeal! The innovative UV protection technology in JetSeal helps reject harmful solar rays and protect paintwork against fading and discoloration. JetSeal is perfect for any exterior paintwork, glass, clear optical plastics, polished metals, carbon fiber, and any other glossy or clear material. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for a new video dropping tomorrow!

    This is how you would polish clear coat. Not carbon fiber. You should have wet sanded, then re-clear coated it. However, the customer will be happy out the door, but not in a couple of months when the products on the clear coat come off.
