    Hey all, I'm the student in this video and I figured I'd post an update since its been like a month. I had actually fallen to Archon V at the time of this session but just hit legend IV today.
    I've really been focusing on the offlane vs carry matchup when I'm playing 5 and whether or not I need to babysit them, can I TP away, etc.. and its actually funny, I caught myself TP'ing away from my core when it ended up being bad the next few games after this session and had to actively remind myself not to do it. It's starting to just be instinct at this point and now it's coming down to whether or not I'm right about if I can leave or not, which is way easier to learn, because you just do it and see if it works or not. I'd really encourage any position 5's to listen to the shadow shaman segment, my minute 6-10 has felt much stronger in most of my games.
    As far as position 4, the 'shove the wave so we don't get hit' situation that BSJ brought up hasn't happened or I haven't identified a situation it would be good in (but I play 4 maybe 20% of my games), but the 'farm and shove top until your core can do it' has come up and let me tell you it's day and night in the games. Keeping the offlane shoved in (as someone that can shove waves specifically) and being available to tp to relevant fights feels amazing. Sometimes your team flames you for 'afk farming' but that tends to be when they take horrible 2v4 fights or something else but it still helps to analyze afterwards if you should have shown up or not.
    Overall active thinking until it just becomes instinct and asking yourself the right questions is the name of the game with DotA, because if you aren't thinking, then how can you actually go back and look at a replay and self reflect on your decision making? If you aren't thinking all you can analyze is how you react to what is immediately in front of you and what buttons you push. If you feel stuck please do yourself a favor and go back and watch a game and ask yourself what you are thinking about throughout the game, if you don't have a next step or a goal then you are probably floundering which is what I've found resulted in that 'waffling' feeling I described in the session. I believe in yall's ability to apply your brain because you care enough to watch youtube videos on DotA so you clearly care enough to try.
    I really appreciate the positive comments people have been posting here and a few people asked what I thought about league vs dota. I stopped playing league after season 1 but the biggest thing I like in DotA vs league is the laning stage in DotA. It's actually fun because of all the things you can do to manipulate creeps and control the wave. I do like the the concept of Ability power in league and the teamfights are fun but overall I've enjoyed DotA more than league.
    I'd like to hit Ancient by the end of the year but I'm just going to keep doing my thing, playing when I'm feeling it and not playing when I'm not.
    Hopefully this 30 year old boomer can hit immortal in a few years if the world hasn't ended by then, hope to see you all there.
    Party on, gamers.

If you don't milk your positioning as support (especially ranged one) for free right-clicks in the first 10 minutes you are being with no exaggeration (but with a few exceptions) useless. Cores meanwhile get to creep aggro and concentrate on last hits which, more often than not, involve not right-clicking for seconds until the right time.

      @@constantringingtech2230 if you are pos 5, yes you need to pick first. But that means you will not control the game at your own will. Btw, my tips applies to below 3k solo queue. Knowing the hero of your pos 1 will hell you to choose proper support for him. I only hope for my carry to listen to my calls and I know we have 70% chance of winning. A carry that can farm descently and push when it matters is all I need in solo queue. Pos 5 that wins trade is very good on this bracket because if you kill the enemy 3-4 times in a lane, they will throw for the rest of the game. But obviously it will get harder and harder as you go up in ranks. I'm also a 1k player before and reached 3k. Knowing every role is important to really understand the game and timings.

    • @hex-2748
      @hex-2748 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@constantringingtech2230 for Carry role, you need to pick a carry that will win lanes and scale well. Longer games usually happens on 3k below, so farming carries are generally good except you faced against a trio or smurf/boosters. Where they usually pick high tempo mid and stomp all three lanes. Communication in low ranks really helps. For carry specific tip, please buy stats, wands and clarities. Don't rush BF with brown boots.

    THANK You THANK YOU!!! I just want to say you said one of the most important things for a hard support.
    today i played 2 games as dazzel. first game
    dazzel + drow vslich magnus. i never left the lane why ? because i dont want my drow to die. and i want to make sure magnus doesnt get any farm,
    our mid and offlanes crushed it and drow ended the game with 24-2 . there was no need for me to wonder around. stacked heal and repeat over and over and over.
    second game.
    i was dazzel with PL vs centaur and lion and our mid invoker was having a real hard time vs TA
    I left the lane as soon as i got a chance to do so.
    i went to help invoker. and i got first blood on lion and sacrificed myself 5 times to help PL get kills. I literally died 5 times just for pl to get kills.
    PL ended the game with 12-0 score. but he was alone after level 6-7 why? because centuar cant really kill him. and if he needed help i always had a tp to help him.
    but when i pick MK and go safe. man i swear i never understand my hard supports.
    anyway this was the most important thing you said in the video. hard supports need to KNOW when to leave a lane. cause first priority is CARRY. second is MID hero.

      The last para pretty much sums up 50% or more of the games 3k&below brackets. You get a rubick which forces lane push by constantly AOE-ing, a PoS KoTL illuminating creeps constantly, an earthshaker who wants farm for himself because "you're not worthy carry to farm", a CM which constantly AOEs creeps, rasta shocking creeps and all that shit. Even lion cant position himself to impale to avoid creep damage for harass.... While freezing lane is pretty common concept in LoL, DOTA has complete opposite species who dont know the F of the Freezing the lane near tower.... Plus the pulls.... God! dont get me started on that... These motivational speeches sound alot more BS than actually motivating most of the time

    Just wanted to reiterate what the client said: We get trained by playing against fellow bads. In the dazzle game when you were asking about shadow wave, most offlanes in 2-3k get pissed when you're pushing the wave with shadow wave even if you damage the carry with it. Then they start shitting on you, and they tend to keep you in that shitlist for the whole game. It's dota community conditioning.

    bsj what about this situation, u got lane tide vs slark ( lets say sups are kinda 1v1 jungle) so its the situation where slark want to hit you so you need to clean the wave cause u cant rly trade eficient, but theres an other option in which the slark goes on u and gets gushed so the creeps hit him a bit more and u get this 1-2 hits for a bit more ( lvl 1 )

    True as fuck. You can single handedly ruin the game for your whole team as a pos 5. I'm saying this as a support main.
    People dont realize it, because the consequences of their actions are not immediately obvious.

    • @lalramdinavarte4987
      @lalramdinavarte4987 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      the disable time on the E far outweighs the spell damage on the Q, and by the time you max it out most carries and heroes you are looking to disable are always too tanky for any damage from the Q to do anything.

  • @lawrenceling1995
    @lawrenceling1995 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    tbh if you wanna sustain in lane and fight them at the same time just go 2xtangoes, 2xmangoes, 2xfaerie fire and a salve. Just start hitting them or baiting them into their deaths. Try and bait them into your carry and kill them. With two faerie fire, you can prob hit with high damage and trade with them more efficiently. just try watch your positioning. Windlace starting item is not to say very good as it is costly and you can get more regen items provided you know your positioning.
    If you need abit of stats just minus one mango and go for extra two branches. Just make sure to ferry out regen right away once you have gold. Trade and tango up. Don't overextend too much and if you do, make sure you trade kill with your pos1 getting the exp. Good luck.

    I doubled my mmr to 4k since i watch....nah i just played the game for years and like to mess up with the games throwing and gaining mmr, bcos the truth is we got certain brackets as our 'limit barrier', everytime i try to break out of ancient to divine i felt like keep meeting up with badly coordinated team, as a support its sometime exhausting and not fun anymore.
    Disclaimer, this is not to encourage or discourage anyone, just a simple heartly opinion share 😤😤

    I always pick 4 or 5 when i play with my friends and its pretty fun. But ofc they are malding me bcs my hero choices. Sometimes i play mars, pango, QoP,puck and even sven for support. But it works very well. I played dota since dota1, so i think i know almost all of the hero mech. The hero that i cant use prob meepo, visage, and medusa (never used it n not interested). Its fun to play using weird hero to support. But when i push rank solo, i always do 3 and i played my best too , 3k mmr now i think

    Fellow supports and BSJ (in case you see this): 90% of the time I am pulling, my carry feeds and pings on me complaining I'm "jungling" and I should go back to the lane. Even though I signal I am going to pull, and tell them to be careful. This is regardless of the hero, it happens ALL THE TIME, to the point where I don't even want to pull anymore and stay there babysitting them just so I don't get flamed and reported. How to deal with this? This is at 3k mmr.

    I am a support player who is stuck between Herald and Guardian. I own my lane in almost 80% of the games. But then my cores decide to all split push and take stupid fights (2v5). I am really frustrated. Like i reached the level of frustration that I don't wonna play ranked anymore.
    I play for the team always but there is really nothing i can do when my teammates throw the game....
