    Yes, it's about that time. One of the most important questions we get on social media, is if it's worth it to upgrade to a new Galaxy S9 Plus. Our review was mostly focused on answering this from a Galaxy S perspective, but that wasn't really the hottest Galaxy in town.
    Calling out a winner really depends on your needs, though. If you depend on the S Pen, then there’s no way around it, you need the Galaxy Note 8. If you don’t, which is the reality of most people, then I’d recommend you go for the newer Galaxy S9+.
    It’s the overall better buy, where you get some unique features that many phones today don’t have. Obviously you could wait for the next Galaxy Note that’ll most likely bring all these improvements, but that’s still a good 6 to 8 months away.

    I outright bought the note 8 as well as the S9 plus, I can proudly say both phones make phone calls. This concludes my review.

      Both phones support VoLTE, which gives you pretty amazing call audio quality, it is almost like person is there speaking with you. Can't get any better than that with current tech. Problem is that outside of USA, not every carrier supports it. For example, in my country, neither of the 3 carriers support it already (although all 3 have LTE since while ago).

    The Note 8 is a great and beautiful phone. I had ordered the S9+ but canceled my order. I just though the Note 8 offered more just because of the S Pen? Do you think once the Note gets upgraded to Oreo it will receive some of the S9 better options??
    The AR emoji on the S9 is a joke! I have a beard and there's no option on the emoji for beards and it just looks creepy lol

  • @Raja995mh33
    @Raja995mh33 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    the S9 has SIGNIFICANT improvement in video? I can't see it. Actually the video stabilisation on the Note8 at 6:37 looked way better...
    also... the step from the QSD835 to the 845 ist definitely NOT "significant" when you run nearly the same battery life with a smaller battery on the Note8...
    And you guys asked for questions about there two. Many people wanted to know about the sound quality with headphones especially wired headphones with the 3.5mm jack but you didn't say anything about this. Just the Marketing bla black of "Dolby Atmos" which is just dump because it's simply impossible to get surround sound with two smartphone speakers...

  • @jd2086
    @jd2086 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The spen isn't only that.... "That's about it?" For me as an architect and also for artist's the spen is a huge game changer, you can't neglect the true behind the technology behind that pen, it comes with 4096 pressure levels that put the spen on pair with the most expensive Wacom professional tools, by the way, the tech behind the spen is made it by Wacom as well. To be able to draw my ideas and then make that ideas come to life in a project, and actually paying my bills thanks to that doodle draw made it with my spen make the difference and it is actually everything better than "just about it".... And I'm pretty sure that artist's, and many real professionals will tell the same about that feature! Is a productivity tool!

  • @siopowar
    @siopowar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bought the Note 8, but got accepted to the S9+ usage study shortly after. Feel and function wise, I prefer the Note. Those sharp corners make it seem more complete and staunchy, even though the screen is barely larger than the 9+. The S9 low light capability, 4k@60fps, super, slowmo, stereo speakers and dolby atmos are what would have had me sold if I had to chose.

      So true. I don't get the comparison between the Note and S lines. I got the Note for the S-Pen functions. I tried the Galaxy S7 when the Note 7 was pulled. I missed the S-Pen too much. And wound up going back to a Note 4 before upgrading to the Note 8 last year. I use the S-Pen for all my text input. Coming from the Palm Pilot/Pocket PC era (I guess that makes me an old fogey), I favor the pen input over the on-screen keyboard.

    I'm currently on the Note 3 and wanting to give it up for something better. Its been a great phone for years but its showing its age now. I don't use the pen very much so for me I think the S9+ is the best choice for me. I've considered waiting to see what the Note 9 will bring to the table but from early reports other than the pen and its features nothing more than that when compared to the S9+. Now I just need to decide whether to ditch Sprint and go with a different carrier or stay with Sprint which is now being bought out by T-Mobile.

      What's the problem? The 2018 Galaxy S9 costs the same as 2017 Galaxy S8 at launch. Pricing hasn't changed. If you are patient, they will get less expensive later, Samsung phones always drop in price few months after launch. Maybe the Note 9 will cost the same as previous model.

    I use the translation function on the Note 8, and that is about all I use the pen for, but it really comes in handy to translate Chinese language texts and websites that don't have an English option.
    I could learn the rest of the Chinese characters, but this is much easier!

    Three things wrong with this video.
    1. I use the s-pen often so this isn't something worth noting as the pen use is dependent on person.
    2. Face ID exists on the Note 8 and works fine in conjunction with the iris scanner.
    3. Note 8 now has Oreo.

    S pen is king. I use it dozens of times on a daily basis and always discovering more of what this little magic wand can do. If you're willing to learn (it does require serious learning) you'll appreciate how you can live without it. It actually adds tons of features that other phones without the S pen can compare. The Note series are a league of its own and I believe it's unfair to compare with other "ordinary" phablets.

    I use the S-Pen all the time. Currently using an Note 8, and looking forward to the Note 9. But Samsung really needs more to differentiate the Note line for its power user audience.
    Frankly, the 64gb onboard storage just doesn't cut it anymore for a phone that is that expensive. I really hope we see 128gb for the US market (in addition to the MicroSD slot...no backsliding on that point, Samsung).

    • @anthonyfagin6210
      @anthonyfagin6210 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right there with you on storage. At this point the Note should have 128gb out of the box. So thankful for my 256gb micro SD. And I heard Sandisk has a 400gb card.

    I've watched, and continue to do so, more cell phone reviews on TH-cam than I'd like to admit to. I've never had a "favorite" reviewer but you just became #1 in my book!!! Not just because of this particular review but rather every time I've taken the time to watch, your always spot on! And I've never been a Samsung fan. Too much bloatware for my tastes. But I love this Samsung 9+! And taking into account some of the cell phone provider's deals right now, I may just jump on. But pay for upfront!

    The S pen is made for artists. I'm a game dev / artist and my note 4 btw is still my pocket sketchbook wherever I go. It's made by Wacom the same company that makes graphic tablets for digital artists in the film, game and animation industry. But to most other people it's just "nice to have". It's really like having a pencil in your pocket, some will write memos, some might draw masterpieces.

    Look at Samsung users arguing among themselves. Stop it. You either need the SPEN or you don't. As a Note user myself since the first gen, I would say the SPEN is something you think that you might not need but you will be thankful that you have it in unexpected situations (also depends on the nature of your job). Sure, the battery is still disappointing if you max out the settings but what's the issue when there's fast charge and power banks are no longer expensive.

    S9 Dual front speakers - Install dual speaker mod for Note 8 (root)
    S9 AR Emoji - Try 3rd party apps like "Mirror Emoji Keyboard" on Note 8 (just a gimmick!!)

    Don't see much value upgrading to S9, especially if you are a tech user.

    I've literally purchased every Note phablet each year they've come out; starting back on the Note 2. The original Note was exclusive to AT&T in the States on it's release.
    With that said, I may break my tradition this year unless the Note 9 adds more features over the S9. The Notes have always been S series phones but with the S-Pen and a few additional refinements.
    I'm simply in love with my current Note 8 and I'm just not seeing a big enough evolution with the S9 -> Note 9 design/features to warrant my annual upgrade.
