do not install drain plug before removing the oil filter. when you remove the oil filter. more oil gets to the sum from the pump system because air get through the oil filter hole. so you get some old oil with the new oil.
Nice! Only reason I used a screwdriver on the oil filter because when you change exhaust it's hard to get that filter off. The new headers where very close to the filter. But now I have a K&N filter with the wrench top... no more screwdrivers

Oil filter is small as hell lol, on the ninja 636 on mine oil filter is on the side by legs so i dont to take off anything for oil change. I use aluminum foil underneath as a base and then paper towels to absorb most of it.
Any particulate matter that has settled in the engine is put back in suspension and has a better chance of draining out with the oil when the bike is warmed up.
yep remove the oil filter first and drain the oil.tight torque for oil is 11 NM and oil plug is 28 NM..also do not forget to deactivate speed limitation..better do the first service in the dealer.
Correct torque settings are for a reason, dont think you're doing yourself a favour by undertightening anything which needs that torque, I know people who ended up on their arses sliding down the road through not tightening a sump plug properly.
It would have been nice if you'd shown the actual removal of the (lower?) fairing. As you noted, dealing with the fairing can be a nightmare on some sportbikes, and seeing a comparison would have been useful. BTW Do you happen to know the size of the crush washer?
Did you buy the magnetic plug and installed it beforehand. I don't think the motorcycle comes with magnetic plug. I am amazed how much filings were on the plug. Also which kind of plug you bought. Thanks very informative
Sameer Dawood : The magnetic plug comes with it. It was the first oil change so I think the amount of filings seen was from the engine running in. Thanks for watching.
Great Job thank you very much and the reason for my thanks is that I will buy the same buy however I am waiting for the new 2017 to come out so I can save some money and I am sure that after seeing your video even more cause I wont wasting money in the dealership BMW of Manhattan NYC
Thanks bro. Warranty is just for 2 years but do you think changing oil as per the manual and not earlier would not cause any engine issues in the long run? Thanks.
If you're running high RPM or at the track often you might want to change the oil sooner. If it's running on the street (not track duty) I think it would be fine. I'm picky, so it's just my preference to change it early. Only my opinion here. I'm pretty sure BMW would not suggest 6000 miles if it was harmful, but I guess it all depends on how you ride too. Cheers!
The manual can be purchased on CD at the dealer. That filter on amazon is not the right one for a 2016. The beginning of the video shows the part number on the box for the oil filter.
NoShadowOfDoubt1 Cool...sounds like you got it all figured out. I put in my bike on amazon and it indicates it's not a match for the link you gave me. Anyway, cheers and ride safe.
@@TwoWheelsAndAPonytail One good thing about you doing the change is you can keep an eye on it. You might like this about the RR......th-cam.com/video/yROGg3_vHBc/w-d-xo.html
Hi Bro. To begin with I luv yur videos on the new s1000rr as they are very informative. I have a 2015 s1000rr as well in Malaysia. What I wanted to consult with u is that is there a problem if I get the second service done at 6k Miles instead of 3k as u mentioned in this video, just don't want to spend some bucks if it us not required. Asked BMW here and they said 6k should be fine but some of my friends did it at 3k and some at 6k. Any information here would be very helpful.
Thanks Asif. I was really only talking about changing the oil early at 3k. That is just by my own choice. I will still do everything else at the 6k service required. I hope that helps.
Good job. That magnet is a nice feature. Looked like standard operating procedure for a bike though I must say my Ninja1000 is the easiest I have ever done. No need to remove anything it literally takes minutes. How many miles in are you?
Thanks spoonman. Pretty much run of the mill oil change for sure. It's weird the the owners manual doesn't include it in the general maintenance section. My K6 is the same as your Ninja 1000 (sweet bike that Ninja) no need to remove the fairings. Now that my 1st service is done I can get some more miles on it, but I'm just over 600 miles. Need to get out and ride.
Hey... questions! What about the service light on? Supposed it’s on cause needs the oil change... and if I do it(oil change), will be the light off itself? Thanks for your help!
Cesar Perez light stays on, need a gs911 to remove yourself. Mine just stays on all the time, I'll probably pick up the 911 when my brake fluid needs changing in June so I can properly activate the abs pump while bleeding
Like your video (s) Picked up my sister bike to yours last week.. Found this on the Alpha Racing Ebay page and will install on my RR and let you know how it goes with the QD type oil drain. seriously, it took simple green and some other things to get that stuff off....everytime im washing the bike and wiping it down, I seem to pick up some of the grease and it smeers all over the fairings lol got too annoying
totally understand that lol I hate that is gets inside the bottom fairing so I'm cleaning it all the time , well at least when It was still new . Im at 12k :-D
For the price of a gallon of oil change it as it goes black and you know the components are protected properly by good oil, between 3 and 4k miles mine goes black, I've 75000 on the bike and its never skipped a beat, no its not a BMW but I know how to take care of a motor.
what are these little pieces on the plug?too little kms and your camshafts seem to start fuck up!!wtf is wrong with bmw quality control after 6 years of known problem?
I would say this is normal fine metal particulate amassed around the magnetic field of the magnet giving the appearance of bigger pieces. With the exception of one very small metal piece when wiped off the magnet, it was like metal mud. This is hardly a tail tale sign of failure but more a sign of all parts bedding in from top to bottom. There is also no way to tell if the hard face on a cam is failing simply by looking at this either. If I were to continue to see this after a few oil changes down the road...I'd take a closer look. Thanks for watching!

Aluminum foil works great for keeping oil off the exhaust. Great vid!
Scooterider1 ....great idea and thank you!
Scooterider1 genius idea
Its also good for cleaning chrome, by rubbing with it, obviously.
That's a really good idea!
Very detaled including removal of left lower fairing which is what I'm looking for. We appreciate you sharing this wealth of knowledge to everyone!!
A better idea is to remove the oil filter while the oil is draining, then installing the new filter before installing the oil plug. But nice job.
Per the Service manual for the K46 12, the filter should be torqued 11NM, BMW sells a cup tool for this.
Great job very informative. I will be looking fwd to change mines in a month time frame.
Nice all
You’re vids in s1000rr are great 👍 im doing my research before buying one !
Good stuff! I wondered if the set up would be easy, my VFR you have to remove a radiator bolt to loosen the oil filter

why did he warm the bike up before draining the oil ? I've never done this before on my bike ..wondering what's the reason behind this

Hi @Moreflyin1
That was a good video with good information. do you have a video on how to change the front brake pads for a 2015 s1000rr?
Good to know. I had no idea it came with magnetic.
I fully recommend "filtermag" I use it on every vehicle.
Thanks! Cool product.

Great video as always. Where did you find the torque settings. I've been looking through my manual and can't find the page for this. Great video.
Anthony Ross ....specs come from the service manual. The users manual strangely does not give any instructions on how to change the oil. Thanks!

You also had a lot metal on the drain plug...
Is it normal for an s1000rr? 🤔 I dont know.....I am scared something is wrong with mine
You should be fine. My last oil change was clean on the drain plug. Is it new and 1st change? Didn't know you were riding an RR. Cool.

hey will i change the oil filter first and after that can i use a engine flush after i change my oil?
Use the old filter with the engine flush, I use auto transmission oil, it cleans everything out.
Just let the bike tick over for ten minutes with it in there, its around 10w oil so will also keep the bike lubed while it cleans.
