Ram 3500 Crank Case Filter Delete-Watch before deleting your CCV Filter

  • The down side of deleting your CCV filter. There is a sensor located at the crank case cover that monitors air pressure between the crank case and the intake at the turbo. When it doesn't see normal pressure this will lead to the sensor throwing a trouble code and check engine light will come on.

    I change my crankcase filter every 50,000 miles an I use a catch can made for diesels and route it back into my turbo. The price of a new turbo is crazy my truck is a 2012 an it runs great no oil leaks or problems

    Did you try using an oil catch can it allows you to get the oil and keep the pressures the same

    It seems the longer I’ve been around vehicles, The more I have learned that the engineers know more than I know…
    I’m sure bypassing certain things can help with performance, but in my experience leaving things factory seems to outlast my use of the vehicle.
    Glad you made this video 👍

    Why not just add an oil catch can between the turbo and cover? That way you retain the negative pressure effect of the turbo while catching the oil fumes and deleting the filter.

      How do you do that

      So the oil catch can is basically like an external filter? Does it ever flog?

    Aside from the CEL, did you notice any difference in power or fuel economy?
    I'm thinking of adding a catch can between the OE CCV and turbo
    My truck is also altered, so I plan to ditch the z-shaped hardline while I am at it.

      The 2017 has a sensor right outside the CC Cover that knows if it's still connected to the turbo due to pressure changes. Only way around that is a tune to disable the sensor.

    • @tacticaldieseldad5695
      @tacticaldieseldad5695  ปีที่แล้ว

      Theres no way around the sensor that the hose passes through at the crank case cover. Only way would be a custom tune. To me its not worth it. I just put everything back to stock.

    Whoever does your delete tuning will be able to disable the code. If you get a baffled valve cover you won't have to worry about a catch can unless you're pushing serious HP numbers.

    • @tacticaldieseldad5695
      @tacticaldieseldad5695  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The performance isn't an issue, I do wish they would give you another inch of 4'' tubing that joins the turbo to the intake tube. Mine has slipped off several times.
      My biggest issue is you should be able to access the filter for cleaning, without taking the whole thing apart. I would go with another brand or do a drop in K&N.

    Mopar filter has fleet guard stamped into the plastic.
    Pull the filter at 35000 miles and compare the weight with a new filter.
    If China filter falls apart you will have no standing with warranty

      Just changed mine at 62.5k felt very heavy compared to new one
      Pretty easy job to change. Can get Fleetguard (Cummins) filter on Amazon for about 60.00 with tax
      45 minutes to install, gonna start changing every 25/30k also good rule of thumb KEEP THAT OIL CHANGED .. NO MORE THAN 5K
      THEN CHANGE DONT GO PAST 5K
      Your engine and pocketbook will love you down the road. P s. Always try to give your turbo a cool down I let idle about 30 seconds before shut down on short drives and about a minute after hwy drive
      Gives oil and turbo chance to cool
      could help save turbo repair. 👍

    Here in Az we can't delete much due to emissions. I don't see much advantage of deleting EGR or Cat or CCV my 2018 runs just fine towing my boat and trailer with all intact and mileage is more than acceptable. Only thing I would delete is grid heater that has that bolt that may come loose and and damage engine.

    I don't understand this at all. As a kid, I had to crawl under cars in the middle of winter in Indiana, and change starters. Now people can't remove 8 tiny bolts, and change a simple filter, in a brightly lit, air conditioned garage. My kid did this job in about 20 minutes. She was 11 when she did it.
