2011年3月，日本東北地方外海三陸沖發生九級大地震，引發海嘯及核洩漏事故，兩名福島縣南相馬市立小高中學校學生罹難，其餘學生為避難各散東西。學校同年4月22日重開，但只有七名學校回歸校園。
一天，學生在課堂上討論他們的朋友的身在地，他們的討論得出這樣的結論：「即使我們之間隔著千山萬水，尉藍的天空還是把我們連繫在一起。」他們的老師小田美樹記錄了他們的討論，再整理成群青的歌詞。
2013年，該校合唱團於 Harmony for Japan 2013－復興支援音樂會中演出這首代表他們平成二十四年(2012/13)屆畢業生的合唱曲，感動了在場的作曲家信長貴富先生，並允諾為他們改編這首充滿希望的歌，實現了這班學生和小田老師的願望：讓更多人認識這首歌。
The Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in March 11, 2011 killed two students of the Odaka Junior High School and forced the remaining students fled to various places of Japan. When the school reopened in April 22 the same year, only 7 of them returned.
One day, the students discussed where their friends have gone, and realized that their friends now lived very far away from them. By the end of their discussion, they come to a conclusion that ‘even if they are very far away from us, and we cannot get there easily, the azure sky above connects us together.’ Touched by the mature thinking of the students, their teacher Miki Oda arranged their discussions into the lyrics of the song.
In 2013, The school choir premiered this song, which is their graduating song, in the Harmony for Japan 2013 Heartfelt Concert. This song deeply touched Mr. Takatomi Nobunaga, the renowned Japanese composer. Mr. Nobunaga agreed to arrange this song of strong faith and hope, and realize the dreams of the students and Ms. Oda - to let more music lovers listen to the voices of the sons of Azure.
