Our first video for the FamicomCD console, Nintendo's overlooked, totally real CD peripheral! Naturally, we went with the console's most iconic game: Super Mario Bros. CD, a completely original entry in the Mario canon that definitely isn't Super Mario World hacked with NES-style graphics and CD quality (MSU-1) music. This game give me nostalgia from another universe
For me, it feels like I stumbled into an alternate reality where Nintendo and Sony finally did the CD-based add-on for one of their consoles without any fall outs or arguments and this was one of those games for the add-on! 😄
The MUSIC 😭😭
god bless the composer
Its really insane, its really sound not like regular snes...
@@saddemon3913 that's because it's coming out of CD quality audio, pratically it's using MSU-1 but still impressive
What-If SNES CD with Satella View
Thought this would've been a NES CD
that would be called the "Tower of Power", no wait... that's SEGA
Like using the Satella View music? That would be better
what if nintendo realese satellaview on the usa
@@supahcomix this is a mario world rom
I am just loving the Music and the genius 1980's and early 1990's feel. It feels like a blend of Sonic the Hedgehog meets Super Mario World with the Sega CD graphics and music. It is just a brilliant project and genius design.
ok that's really cool, an smw hack that actually tries to achieve it's own vibe and style instead of being just a level pack :0 and with customized platforming physics!!1
and its able to play super clear music thats not limited to hardware stuff
@@welcomebackkyle.any games able to do that with a msu-1 patch
cool!@@somerobloxdude3699
It looks like it’s achieved another company’s vibe.
a lot of smw hacks try to achieve their own vibe and style (like mine for example ;) ;) ;))
I just love how “fuller” everything feels.
Very nice 👌
I remember when my dad got me a Famicom CDX for my birthday. He owned a Radio Shack back in the day so it wasn't hard for him to get his hands on one. It's the portable version of the Famicom CD that could be used as either a console or CD player to listen to tunes on the go. Kinda like a walkman. You could plug it into TVs on airplanes to play your games during a flight. What a luxury! Thing is, the CDX cost $550 which was more than the regular Famicom CD that went for only $400. I hear the CDX goes for quite a pretty penny these days among collectors.
yes, it's expensive, but worth it just so you can get a 64X and form a Tower of Super Power!
Surprised to see someone mention the cdx
Ah yes. The FamicomCD. A trademark staple of the 16-bits. Although not the graphical leap many were expecting, the CD-based peripheral, with its vast upgrades in speed, performance, and most noticeably, sound, along with many great games, BLEW Sega and their (weaker-by-comparison) Sega CD-i out of the water.
The equal partnership of Nintendo and Sony is an unmistakably powerful combination. The success of the FamicomCD (or outside the land of the Rising Sun, the Nintendo PlayStation) was, of course, merely a stepping stone, leading to the now-world-famous Nintendo Ultra 64.
In-fact, many of the people who worked on Super Mario Bros. Wonder for Nintendo Fusion would say that their main inspiration was the game they played as children, Super Mario Bros. CD for the FamicomCD.
that's true, though I'd argue that it was more directly influenced by New Super Mario PSP and its sequels.
Not gonna lie, I never heard about the FamicomCD until days ago! Such ahead of its time...great games, too! 😊
Has anyone played its port of the Puyo Puyo arcade game? Too bad it's Japan only...
@@polanco5489same. hopefully an emulator comes out supporting it soon!
I kinda feel bad for Sega. Their partnership with Philips seemed so promising at first. Who knows what could've been if Sega decided to make their own CD system instead of getting another company involved.
In other news, at least we had the Atari 3DO to pick up Sega's slack a few years later. Which cost about $1200 back in the day but it was totally worth it. I heard that console was originally going to be called the Atari Jaguar before Atari ultimately scrapped the old design saying it was "over engineered". Perhaps it was for the best.
@@randybutternubs4647 dude sonic cd's animation was literally so bad
In a alternate universe when Sony and nintendo maked the accessory of reading CD's in the SNES
Or Philips.
@@Anonymous-oh4xw(hotel mario intro starts playing)
Ah, Super Mario Bros. CD, what a classic. Some may consider the FamicomCD addon as somewhat of a letdown (idk what Nintendo were thinking having so many FMV games with the FC’s color range), but it was home to so many underrated gems.
I can’t defend the Famicom16X though. I have a soft spot for Toad’s Narcotix, but I can’t deny that the 16X split Nintendo’s developers when they should’ve been fully dedicated to the Super Saturn instead. If it weren’t for those losses Nintendo took in the 16-bit era, I wonder what consoles they would’ve made today; imagine a successor to the Ultracast!
I'm of the opinion that it was all for the best in the long run, just because it allowed Mario to appear in Sonic & All Star Smashing, not to mention the Sonic & Mario at the Olympics series
Sometimes, I just sit and wonder to the fact that they cancelled a port of the original Magical Drop arcade game from 1995...but oh well, at least the second game was ported there under the name "Magical Drop CD"!
This is genuinely amazing.
imagine adding time travel on that lol
That would be dope
Imagine going to the past, but then the game displays the sign with corrupted tiles, and then it just sends Mario to a so #retro place
The past levels could be NES graphics/sound, and the future something akin to NSMB series. That would be mental!
@@elnoel1220 tbh future would be better if it had a GBA-ish style instead
@@ssg-eggunner actually i agree, because NSMB is 3D.
I thought this was a fangame for PC, crazy how this works on real hardware.
I really hope this gets finished, it’s so fresh yet still so Mario
its not only how it looks but i love the music in this its really nice!
This game looks amazing. My only mild criticism could be, that during the beach level, the Tweeters should be able to be picked up like Turnips, and the crabs should survive the first hit and become faster like in the original Mario Bros. This sort of behavior would really make the enemies pop in contrast with eachother.
Imagine showing this to a kid in 1990
It's perfect... perfect. EVERYTHING! Down to the last minute... details! 👌
This kind of reminds me of SMB Wonder ngl. Especially the music
This game is too good. Absolutely everything about it is great. I’m genuinely shocked this even exists.
same, can't wait to see more of it
Imagine if the NES/Famicom has a CD drive accessory and many NES games made use of it
The music and background reminds me of Sonic.
Yes, was about to say sonic CD, it's the same idea
I really wanna see this on real hardware!
it's confirmed that it works on the FXPAK PRO flashcart!
That’s amazing. I’ve got an AES for my nes games, now I need to get an rgb modded snes too 😂
I had a video on this too!! The effect of this game just keeps going!!
Nintendo should've had a partnership with either NEC or Panasonic or Sanyo for a CD add-on. Sony designed their contract with Nintendo to be rejected; whether it'd be on the spot or later down the line. Creating the "Habsburg Ultimatum" Effect!

Fans do what Nintendon't
Yo this vibes man.
The sprite work is great, and I love the soundtrack (The Beach level hits the hardest)! Very 80s-90s stuff.
So stellar
This looks really neat.
How did they capture the 1980's vibe of the music so perfectly?
Very very nice, of course I hope level design gets touched up, two player added, and of course, a patch so Hakchi can run this on the SNES mini
Beach Music sounds nice
incredible music
This is hittin'!

I always thought he spits fire. Love the aggressive sound when he throws some of them fireballs. Blip-Blipp! 🔥
Mario's equivalent to Sonic CD
I LOVE IT
It’s got that little kid playing a brand new Mario game aesthetic
wonderful
Snes mario hacks getting only better, i hope all of them will be completed and fully playable
🙏
Very excited 🔥
this sounds like a fever dream
We need Duck Hunt CD next
Look how he jumps and flies! Haha. You reinvented Mario in an other dimension. Legit!
So cool. What if. Yes.
Interesting, I wonder about the conclusion of this game.
What if there was an alternate universe that nintendo didn't broke the promise with sony and released the nintendo playstation. SMW might have looked like this:
0:01- 0:08 I LOVE IT (no seriously I do)
This is incredible! Why can not Nintendo make something awesome as this?
They did Super Mario Bros Wonder, which is an amazing game as well.
Well, we got Super Mario Bros. Wonder, as Nintendo finally did something new to Mario and his friends that is not a "New Super Mario Bros." title...
@@polanco5489 @FoxMccloud1 You are both right.
Yes! Why didn't Nintendo make something as good as this? Not one Nintendo game has ever been as good as this!
@@troywright359 // Exactly! Again, we got Wonder, which finally does something new to Mario and friends, but still, why can't Nintendo do such a thing? A Mario adventure with a bopping, banger soundtrack like that?
The sound effects remind me of A Koopa's Revenge 2
Everything about this is beautiful! What’s this style called?? It kinda gives a retro hippie stoner vibe, but I’m pretty sure that’s not the right term lol
It looks like a mix of the looks of Famicom games from 1983-1986 (Metroid 1, Zelda series, smb1&tll) with Mr Gimmick
Cool
Its weird seeing an 2d mario game with parallax
Very very good. Please keep up the good work

I just wish they would put the original Super Mario style hud back at the top. Looks so empty without it. Other than that it's a wonderful game by fans.
this looks (and sounds) awesome, but i wonder why they went with the ‘8-bit’ aesthetic… it clashes a bit with the soundtrack imo.
I believe it’s to match the music having an 80’s-inspired sound to it. The SNES wouldn’t be around until the 90’s, so if they were able to get CD quality music into a video game during that time period, it would still be on the NES (albeit they did go with an early 90’s NES style for the visuals; they definitely didn’t do those kinds of backgrounds back in 1985...!).
The Famicom aesthetics are actually there because this ROM hack has the goal of taking advantage of background mode 0
Which allowed 4 layers with 4 colors
@@ssg-eggunner, that and the game was meant to be one on the fictional Famicom CD.
@@PKSuperStar256 I'm pretty sure the whole Famicom CD schtik was done for the sake of lore and clout
Before they created the FamicomCD YT Channel, they used a Twitter account, where they promoted the FamicomCD as a real thing to catch attention
Them flappy birds got some punch to em god damn. Looking good otherwise!
How do I download this?
Can I play this game on my Android device via an emulator?
if you can find an emulator for Android that can play MSU-1 SNES games, yes
Great Gameplay and how do i play this game?

3:48 KAMASAMI KONG???
This looks really great… but I'm still really confused about what this actually *is.* Is this actually a romhack? I think it might benefit from less saturated colors on the background elements. It looks really hard to make out Mario from the backgrounds, even if it might not be quite what you're going for.
it's a Super Mario World romhack
the music is very nice but I'm not sure it would fit a Mario platformer such as this one
2.2 is out, you should make a video on 2.2
Geometry dash
😮
Just think this could been on PS1
The music is 🔥🔥🔥! I wish the creators would use music like this in Mario games instead of those lame bells and whistles kid music
Is it possible to get my hands on this hack? 😊

Somari mode
It not smb 1 it super retro bros CD edition
Demo only?
yes, they say the full version comes out next year.
My only criticism with this is that the lines on the tall dome things in the background and the intro to the beach level music could possibly get annoying. Other than that, this is amazing!
Aside from the music not sounding mario-like. This game has appealing sprites
it does sound a lot like the music they used on Satellaview broadcasts
Tbh I'm all for a Mario game with genres other than jazz & fusion
7:40 yep, that's a turn off for me, this fangame is good though!, i wish they had a Modern/Easy difficulty where Mario reverts to Super when he takes damages in his fire form.
This is busting
Is this snes emulation
yep

I like the idea but CD quality music and 8bit graphics don't get well along like at all in my opinion
Not a Sonic CD fan I see
@@troywright359 I like Sonic CD. It's 16-bit graphics and those work well with CD music. I don't like the combination of NES/8-bit and CD music which this fangame does do.
I agree. 16 bit works better.
