      I just got a toyota corolla hatchback se .... April 15, 2024 and the car is fun considering the price . it has the spirit of a sports car . The hatchback acts and sounds like a wannabe porsche.

  • @donr8773

    I concur. Built in Japan says it all. I bought this exact car in 2021 with a 6 speed intelligent manual transmission. It was by far the best manual I’ve ever driven. Sadly they have dropped that transmission from the line up and now it looks like it only comes in the Corolla GR. I traded it for a 40th anniversary Golf GTI with 6 speed manual. I wanted to keep the Corolla but got overruled. My trade in is still on the lot at VW of Daphne near Mobile. 14,200 loving miles, broken in properly and never anywhere near the red line.

    • @bobbystillz222
      @bobbystillz222 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      What was the point in trading it in? If you loved it and it only had 12,000 miles and then I don’t understand.

    • @donr8773
      @donr8773 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @bobbystillz222 Right, good question. When Volkswagen announced that they were discontinuing manual transmission’s after 2024 and the 40th anniversary models (2023) showed up I thought acquiring one in a 6speed would be a good move.. Both for the fun factor and resale in the future because of the manual. Plus, the dealer gave me $25,000 trade in. I paid $26,000 cash 33 months earlier. I couldn’t resist the deal. I did pay MSRP for the Golf GTI. The wife would not let me keep both, I tried. I lost a few miles a gallon but gained 73 hp and 122 lb/ft of torque.

    • @stolenhal0
      @stolenhal0 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Front seating area is comparable, except the dash sticks out a lot further. Back seats are much smaller and trunk is smaller, especially with the spare tire kit. You kind of really have to put the back seats down and remove the trunk cover if you really want to take full advantage of the cargo situation.

    • @microminiskirt
      @microminiskirt 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      HB is a smaller car than the Corolla sedan which makes it more easy to maneuver around and get into smaller parking spaces. The room suits me fine. I do have the backseats down because I do not carry passengers.@@stolenhal0 In my case I would have problems fitting the Corolla Sedan in my garage because the Sedan is slightly larger.

  • @brucegraner5901
    @brucegraner5901 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Every 2023 XSE hatch review I've seen shows the vehicle coming with a compact spare, as does the sedan. I bought my 2023 when they were very hard to get and, to my surprise, my came only with the fix-a-flat kit. I was told the spare is optional. I went ahead and bought my XSE any way and I really like the car BUT I wish the three or four car reviews I watched on TH-cam had mentioned the spare as being optional.

    • @supDruMz
      @supDruMz 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's an option called "enhanced cargo space"where they replace the spare with a flat fix kit to allow for more cargo space. It's a free option so it's just something you have to check for.

    • @brucegraner5901
      @brucegraner5901 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wish I my salesman had mentioned that. It took me two months to even see a hatchback after test driving a sedan where I did check to see if that car had a spare. Then came the videos showing the hatch with the spare. I test drove the car I bought off the showroom floor and when I came back to the dealership there were two other couples waiting to try the same car so since my 1996 Suzuki was on its last legs I told them I'd take the car. Somewhere in all the pressure to replace my Suzuki, the Corolla sedan with the spare and the videos showing it had a spare was the assumption my car had a spare as well. A lesson for my next life. However, I do appreciate you taking the time to send along that information. @@supDruMz

    Solid chassis and good driving sports hatch. Love the looks but not a fan of the Prius-like dash or RAV-4 institutional interior and it’s a bit small. I think Toyotas drive pretty well and I’ll choose a Camry to rent without hesitation. Just got the comparable driving and a bit larger Impreza RS, not a lot of choices out there for a sports wagon/hatch (not hot hatch) and it has a responsive powertrain, solid handling and is super comfortable. Also wanted the Japan built status of it like the Corolla.

      @@50sstanley love it! Real solid chassis, great ride and handling, responsive power train, comfortable, safe and practical with its flexible cargo capability. Easy to get 35 mpg on the highway and 500 miles on a tank makes it a great road trip car, AWD is unstoppable as long as the snow isn’t too deep. I only drive 3-5k a year so will likely never see its 120k service - probably $1500-2000 because of spark plug and CVT fluid replacement - 1/2 the other items you can likely do yourself and knock off a couple hundred.

    I considered the Corolla hatch. It should be very reliable long-term and the pricing seems quite good compared to the competition (I'd be happy with the base SE). I found it to drive quite nicely, but it has too many negatives for me. I think it's an ugly car. The rear seat room and cargo room are too cramped. They should have used the sedan's longer wheelbase. I'm also not a fan of the poorly conceived interior design. Poor storage space. Tiny buttons on the dash. I hate the screen sticking up from the top of the dashboard. Pointy outboard corners on the dash to bang your knees on. The Civic hatch and Mazda 3 hatch take care of most of those issues. The pricing on these two cars is a really poor value though in comparison.

  • @gildavis8266
    @gildavis8266 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is a very good car but there are some things I would change to make it great. The first thing is to lose the CRT transmission and go back to using the 7 gear system. CRT's are crap! And every manufacturer who has made them stock is just kidding themselves by saying that they are not. Don't believe me? Wait a few years and once out of warranty you will face an ugly truth. They will wear out and nobody will want to work on them. A replacement will cost you thousands.
    The second thing is to add disc brakes on all four wheels. Let's face it, drum brakes are yesterday's technology.

    • @uberfarben
      @uberfarben 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Dynamic-shift CVT is smooth and quite responsive for what it is. It's a Toyota, so chances are the CVT will be reliable. Time will tell. The Corolla Hatchback USA/Canada model has disc brakes on all four wheels.

      I didn't know the Toyota came with 4-wheel disc brakes. My question is why Canada and not the United States? Now all that's left is the CVT. Replace it with a 6 speed and they will have a real winner!@@uberfarben

    Europe gets the hybrid. Why can’t we get that ????? Hello Toyota ?????
    Also, the VW GTI S trim is a much better value proposition. Because you’re not gonna get this at MSRP.

    Paddle shifters on a CVT, what is this world coming to? Toyota, stop with the gimmicks on your vehicles.

    Don't know why your saying the ride is good. Bought one for my daughter and the ride is noisy as hell and feels so cheap. You feel all the bumps. That's what she wanted but in my opinion this car rides like a piece of total 8h!t.

      Is it an XSE model with those 18 inch tires and wheels? That deteriorates the ride comfort.

      My 2023 SE rides smoother than some mid/full size cars. Sure it’s not a Lexus, but for a compact hatch, it’s incredibly smooth. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      If your SE has the 16 inch Tires n wheels the ride will be more comfortable than the 18 inch tires n wheels that come standard on XSE Corolla in USA.@@JazzzRockFuzion

      Toyota’s more reliable, cheaper (esp the SE model), much better gas mileage, and a complimentary 2 yr/25K dealer maintenance.

      @@katiecannon8186 Reliability between the two are highly debatable. More recently, newer Mazdas have become more reliable, but generally, Toyotas have been more reliable overall.
