      Not mentioned in this video is dealing with the actual Hatchback portion of the car. When comparing these two vehicles, you need to consider why people are getting a hatchback versus a sedan, or coupe.
      And this is where there is a large difference in my mind. With the Corolla having only 17.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and a total of 23.3 with the seats folded down. This is in comparison to the 22.6 feet in the civic (sport and sport topuring, with 25.7 in the LX) with the seats up, and a shocking 46.2 cubic feet with the seats down. This is over double the space in the corolla and to a hatchback owner, is the reason the Civic is the better hatchback overall

      I’ll take the Toyota Corolla, hands down. I’ve owned two Civics back to back and I got SO tired of that low platform. You feel sunken down on the road, plus, it made my back ache tremendously. My Civics were hurting me because they weren’t comfortable, though it took a long time to accept that the cars just weren’t right for my body type.
      I’ve tested both these cars and the Corolla is by far the most comfortable ride of the two. The Corolla handles brilliantly, and feels sturdier-beefier if you would. The cargo space is not as large as the Civic’s though because it’s a bit higher, but the shape of the hatch is so much cooler looking. I can make less cargo work okay though, and loading the Corolla is easier on my spine because of it’s higher stance.
      The Corolla looks phenomenal. I tell you, it’s impressive in both Sedan and Hatch version, I was stunned at the dealership at how great this car looks and how well it drove. It’s a total winner for me. If/when the Corolla comes out with a Turbo version, it could potentially blow the Civic away. IMO, The infotainment of the Corolla is way nicer than the Civic’s too. If I wasn’t looking to buy a PHEV soon, I’d probably buy the Corolla instead (my top consideration is the Prius Prime). My next purchase will happen the day after Christmas (Lord willing) and I’m buying my first Toyota. Can’t wait!

    Hate the Corolla’s unnervingly light steering. Having a much punchier engine and bigger interior also helps, so the Honda Civic it is (but the lack of heated steering wheels will be missed). Not mention that the Corolla’s weird CVT already has recalls.

      Show Me What I Need To Know in the context of hatchbacks I was suggesting that it was inferior to awd in terms of traction. It’s not obvious in the video but at that moment I lost traction while trying to accelerate. Hope that clears it up!

    • @Bartonovich52
      @Bartonovich52 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      AWD isn’t that much more useful. The extra power is going to tires with less grip because of less weight. You’re not getting the kind of acceleration that is going to shift weight distribution either.
      AWD also comes with extra weight, extra unsprung weight, and higher centre of gravity... all huge liabilities when trying to stop or maneuver on slippery surfaces after your AWD got you going too fast. That’s probably why most of the vehicles I’ve seen spun out or flipped in winter have been AWD or 4WD.

    • @ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow
      @ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      As someone who has driven FWD most of their lives (with snow tires), and now drives an AWD 328I xDrive, I can tell you that AWD makes A HUGE, HUGE, HUGE, DIFFERENCE. Modern AWD systems shuffle the power to the wheels that have grip -- not the wheels that don't have grip. In fact, an open diff FWD car is what will shuffle power to the wheel that does not have the grip -- so there's a big disadvantage.

Cloth inserts will not only last longer (less obvious leather stretching and cracks) but it’ll be nicer because cloth doesn’t retain heat as much as leather and it is not as chilly as leather seats on a cold day.

      I hate cloth seats, they stain easier and they absorb spills and smells that can be very difficult to get out, anybody with dogs and children knows what I'm talking about, leather is much easier to clean, it does not absorb bad smells like cloth does.

    I just bought one. I never thought I would own a Corolla. Especially after owning a Ford F-150, Mazda MX5 Miata GT, Audi A6, 4th gen 4runner, Ford Mustang, Camry, 5the gen 4runner limited. 3rd gen Tacoma TRD Sport, two Lexus ES, and a Wrangler JL. I am blown away by the little Corolla. It’s almost as fun to drive as the Miata, but almost as comfortable as the Lexuses I’ve owned. It has Apple CarPlay on 8” screen, made in Japan, near hybrid MPG, standard Toyota radar cruise control and parking sensors, and big digital dash, heated seats, garage door opener, smart key push start, etc and many more. And it’s one of the cheapest cars that I’ve owned. It’s one of the best deals of the decade for cars!

Then I test drove the Mazda, and was even more impressed, but the 2.5GT 6spd I test drove had really uncomfortable vibrations throughout the car at idle, either from droning or engine knock, so I left. The way home I stopper by honda to test drive the civic hatchback, and was I blown away!

    Again, Excellent review. Subscribed. After driving only 2 vehicles in the past 31 years, yes, 31 years, (1986 Toyota Celica and 2003 Toyota Matrix), I was faced with having to hand over the Matrix and was in the market in late 2017. Headed off to my favorite Toyota dealer and they had nothing I liked. iM was too small, C-HR was ugly and not as practical at the Matrix. I even took a look at the Prius Hatch and V. Better than I expected, but was not impressed. Walked into the Honda dealer next door, saw the Civic Hatchback Sport (hatchback being an important feature), took it for a test drive and bought. I've had it for a year, and this review is spot on. I agree with pretty much everything that was said.
    Yes, I also found the suspension a bit on the stiff side, and for my winter tires I went down a size and that soften it up. I don't mind the stiffer suspension thou. Handles really well.
    If the Corolla Hatchback was available when I was in the market, I would of taken a serious look, but no Android Auto and the poor acceleration would of been a huge turn off.
    I WANT THE VOLUME CONTROL OF THE 2019 CIVIC HATCHBACK. Lol.
    BW, my mileage is between 6.3 to 6.9l/100km combined. Best fuel efficiency is when your going about 80Km/hr, and I've had as low as 4.8l/100km.
    I'm reasonably happy with the Civic and after watching this video feel that it's the better of the two for my driving preference. Like he says it's an "engaging car". But if I was in the market to buy a car today, I'd spend the extra money and get a Model 3.

    And the extra cost for the bigger wing is worth it

      @TheOfficialGorms 10 years is literally nothing, though. My unreliable-at-release Fiat Coupe is 23 years old and it's still running. What I'm saying is that it's retarded to be surprised that a car is running after 10, a well built car should run for 30 at least without any major issues.

    There are some SERIOUS Caveats here, fellas. For most enthusiasts that are cross shopping these, they are looking for manuals, and not autos. And from personally driving both, the corolla manual gear box is far more superior (can't believe i actually said that) to the Honda. For the first time, i drove a Honda manual and hated it. Way too much play in between gears, fake metal clang sound when banging gears and just a cheap overall feel. Though, you are right, the steering feel does come into play here. Between the two, the Honda wins in Steering feel.
    The other big issue is, even though i'm an enthusiast, the infotainment which is a BIG deal for daily drivers.. The main thing that Honda omit's in the Civic Sport is a Touch screen and upgraded sound system in the Manual version. Have you heard the sound system of the base infotainment? You might as well use your cell phone speakers to listen to music. The infotainment is so bland, and quite frankly, not enjoyable. Not to mention, the back up camera quality is on par with a flip phone camera.
    Guys, I know i'm complaining about materialistic things, but even enthusiasts need creature comforts from time to time. The Corolla hatch has a better feeling manual gear box, not nearly as much play between gears, more tech comes standard, infotainment is top-notch and the back-up camera is definitely better quality. Honda really screwed up not offering a better infotainment, that would have helped in many people's buying decisions.

    I will not change my opinion...the absolute two best brands to buy are Toyota and Honda. I am of German ancestry and I will flat out say it...Honda and Toyota have beaten the Germans...the Americans and the Koreans at car building...for all you Trump Yankee lovers who love FORD and GM and FCA...you keep buying that crap. Foe all you German car lovers who think The Germans are the best...all it is is expensive crap. The Koreans are close to Honda and Toyota, but the two Marquee Japanese brands still reign supreme. I personally love Toyota because like me...I like boring and reliable. My wife and I own are 3rd Toyota now...we drove our Corolla to 330 000 kms....now that is reliable and it was still going when we traded it in. Toyota is hands down the best.

      I don't think the Koreans are close though. Too much money on advertisement and overestimating numbers playing with consumers till someone gets tired and sue them (then they say it's consumers' problem), and little on R&D.
