    I've been using the Meguiar's Water Magnet drying towel for about a year now. It works great especially for glass. I usually use two, one to get the bulk of the water off, and the second to finish drying. I haven't been looking for marring because I use it on my daily, but I will be on the lookout

    Been loving these videos! I actually have six of the Auto Drive waterless wash towels. They have the same kind-of-okay plushness as the drying towel, but I like the high pile and love that I can comfortably have 16 sides to each towel (since it's 16x24"). Makes it perfect for waterless washes (like the namesake). And at only about $2.50 per towel, it's a great value. I still mainly use The Rag Company stuff, but I love these cheap surprisingly-decent towels.

    At O’Reillys they have that Viking Brand which actually makes some pretty decent brushes (they’re detail brushes, and leather horse hair brush specifically); but they *also* have 24x24 pack of towels, claim to be a good “drying towel to saving your premium towels for ceramics and sealants” . Would be interested to hear your thoughts on that brand in a video. Seems to be somewhere between Walmart and premium brands.

    • @joshread3740
      @joshread3740 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically 16x16 would be too small except for only the most absorbent towels (and even then it's going to depend on the vehicle). However, you don't really need the super big ones. I can dry pretty much any size normal vehicle (sedan, SUV, truck) with my 20x24" Liquid8r by The Rag Company. You definitely want what's called a "twist loop" towel for drying if you don't want those huge 24x36+ towels.

    How do clean your dirty towels?

    • @KlockoFett
      @KlockoFett 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use either a microfiber specific detergent or the Tide with no perfumes or dyes (Tide free & gentle). Wash in cold, definitely nothing above medium heat as too much heat can melt the fibers and make them useless. Dry on low or no heat, or hang dry. Best practice is to separate towels used for especially dirty parts (wheels/tires, door jambs, etc.) from those used for paint. Separate paint towels from interior towels. Separate glass towels from the rest. I generally don't separate them from each other unless something is really dirty. If you wash your car frequently, door jambs shouldn't get that nasty. I don't towel dry my wheels and tires either. I use a blower for those. Thusly, I can kind of get away with not separating by "job" and not have to do 4 loads and send the wife through the roof over the water/power usage. Note: if you have Chemical Guys towels, their instructions say to wash in hot. I'd ignore that, as I believe they're just trying to sell more towels. Their microfiber wash has a citrus scent and an orange color. It works, but goes against what Pan says. Maybe he's too OCD about it. I don't know.
      Josh put out a video on the topic pretty recently. Pan the Organizer has like 3 videos on the topic. I've only watched 1 of Pan's and haven't gotten to Josh's yet.

    As far as the stitched edges on some towels. A quality towel like from TRC with those stitches use actual microfiber. A Kirkland for example uses straight polyester. The difference is, with the cheaper towels the stitching will Marr the paint. TRC MF banded/stitched will not. I actual cut the edges off my Kirklands if im going to use on the paint. Dampen the towel first so the lose fibers fall to the floor. Wash and you’re all set… edgeless towel.

    One way you could possibly test the absorbancy is to fill a container with a known amount of water and then fold the towel into fourths, set it on the surface and then use a weight to push it down, then see how much water was actually taken out of the container when the towel is removed.
    Not perfect but it would be a repeatable method and give you a baseline.
    Testing different drying towels in this way could be an awesome video idea also.

      They are super cheap towels, but they aren't junk. They are meant to be used on real dirty stuff and be more disposable. I don't doubt that don't work as well as a special glass towel.

      @@NickVetter Honestly I’ve had better results from terry cloth and paper towels. Not for a finished wipe or glass, or paint. Something in the mix, maybe the polyester that was left behind for bad results. I use the rest for sweat removal!!

    You get what you pay for. I am not saying you need to pay too much for anything, but given the importance of microfiber towels in almost every aspect of car detailing... I pass on these. The roll towels you showed I do like them and use them for things like tires, door jams etc, but since they are not recommended for paint, kind of a bummer.
