    Something else to be aware of us room service. It's awesome to have food brought to your room but it's costly. I found that out in Las Vegas when I ordered pancakes and bacon for breakfast. The total was $50.00 after all the fees and service charges were added in. When I was in Chicago I looked at my hotels room service menu and when I added up all those fees to the price of the hamburger I was going to order I walked down stars to the restaurant to dine.

    Although temptation is high, I never eat the snacks and drinks from the minibar, nor do I use room service. Prices are expensive and we never know, how long those delicious and
    so appealing snacks/drinks are there.

    "Hacks" has become such an overused term. Most of this is good advice or common sense. To me, hacks means a way of getting something that you wouldn't normally get. To me, none of these fall into the hack category.

      Do you mean the cleaning staff or the reception staff? The cleaning staff I never got the chance to come across them. And the reception I only go there to collect or give me key when I leave the hotel. So, I don't know.

      Tip the front desk up front at check in. I just say” I’m gonna be here for awhile and I want to have a nice stay”...hand the person checking you in a $20 or a $50. They will almost always upgrade your room to a bigger room or a better view, better bathroom. They know the hotel like the back of their hand and what rooms suck for noise etc.
      If you are staying for a night or two only...say “this is a special occasion so anything you can do...” then hand them a $20 or $50.

    With bigger hotel companies, it helps to join their loyalty program book directly. You can avoid a lot of nasty things such as being walked. Also, if your not part of their loyalty program, you are far less likely to get things like early check in and room upgrades.

    My friend somehow confused the front desk into checking him out 1 day into his 3 night stay and as a result after they did that, he rechecked in and as an apology, got a free upgrade to a King bed suite, he is awesome. I couldn't have thought of that. Idk if it works everywhere tho.

    PLEASE DO NOT BRING A CANDLE. They are one of the leading causes of death in hotels due to fire. Very ignorant to recommend that!
    I work in a high rise massive hotel in downtown Denver and we really advise strongly against candles or anything that causes smoke. If your room has evidence of smoking or smoke we can charge you $250 smoking fee. If we find used matches bet you're going to be charged. So I'd recommend you edit this video and omit the candle recommendation.

    • @nicolerm
      @nicolerm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolutely agree. I spent the majority of my working career working front desk at many different hotels. Guests thought they could be sneaky when it came to candles or matches or smoking, etc., but, most of the time, they weren't smart enough and got caught. I cringed when I was listening to the scented candle part. That would be a big no-no!

  • @maria369

    Seriously, a scented candle!?!

    • @JarlGrimmToys
      @JarlGrimmToys 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m pretty sure most hotels would class candles as a fire hazard.
      There’s also the possibility of setting off the smoke alarms.

    • @JarlGrimmToys
      @JarlGrimmToys 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plus if you accidentally happened to know over a candle and split wax or left a scorch mark on a carpet.
      A hotel is well within its rights to charge you for an entire new carpet, the cost of fitting the new carpet, and the loss of business while it is being replaced.

      It is one of the most stupid suggestions I've ever heard.

    • @JarlGrimmToys
      @JarlGrimmToys 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maria369 I’ve heard stupider suggestions. A lot of youtubers recommend putting tin foil on the iron provided in hotel rooms. To cook everything from eggs to steaks.
      It’s incredibly irresponsible. Not only is it a big fire risk. But it’s unpleasant for anyone in neighbouring rooms smelling whatever they are cooking in their unventilated hotel room. You’ve got the cleaning staff who have to try and air the rooms for the next guests.
      Also imagine staying at a hotel and needing to iron a shirt. Only to find it’s left a trail of grease because someone used it to cook with.

      It really is hit and miss though, and after some uncomfortable trials I prefer not to risk having my vacation ruined by a bad host. Yes, hotels are more expensive, but they also offer better service. As for saving money, you can do so by reserving weeks/months ahead or using discounts on HotelsCombined, Staypia, etc.
