I work in a 5 star hotel in Scandinavia. Average room rate is 700 -14000 eur per night. And I can TELL YOU, that I would NEVER use kattle, cups, remote, water carrafe, fancy pillows / blankets in the hotel... and also bathtub... we clean them with the same cleaning rug.. glasses and toilets... and kattles? We just dry them with the same cleaning rug from the toilet. Remote.. we just dust them, as desinfectants can damage the plastic and leave a stain. And the blankets amd pillows? We NEVER EVER fash them ... my reccomendation is, if you are in a mid of higher end hotel, ask to vhange you sheets upon arrival ( just spill water on them ), and ask for additional kattle ( as those extras are rarely used.. U saw asian guests wash their socks in the kattles... the same about Sofas and chairs.. ask for extra sheet anf place it on the sofa to sit, as you can get rash from that. When you are inside of the room, place a chair next to a door. Bathtub and bsthroom floor? Please, if you use the ironing board and/or iron for anything but ironing clothes cover it with a towel! I was going to a wedding and needed to give my husband's shirt and my dress some attention. My husband couldn't take his jacket off because of a stain all over the back of his shirt and my dress was ruined. Sure, hacks are nice, but PLEASE be considerate of others who may need to use the items for their proper purpose after you!
Please do not take extra food! This is very upsetting to small hoteliers. It is actually stealing because you are entitled to just one reasonable sized meal. I have seen owners visibly upset watching this type of theft occurring. Be kind in all you do. Do not try to take advantage of people, just because you can.
My experience with hotels all over Europe and the U.S. is that they don't let you smuggle food out of the breakfast buffet (extra sandwiches). I see people getting stopped and I'm sure it's embarrassing.....

Good tips but be considerate. Water kettle shouldn't be used for cooking noodles or eggs. Encouraging travellers in doing so may eventually stop hotels from providing water kettles. I read news that a traveller even boiled her underpants in the kettle!
As a hotel owner for 36 years, I agree,,, "Good tips but be considerate." The stories of inconsiderate people are endlessssss. the ice bucket used for the dogs' water bowl. The nicer the towels, etc. the hotel buys in wanting to supply the best, it ends up increasing the temptation of people with sticky fingers (theft). Motorcyclists use towels to check the oil and wipe down their bikes. People "forget" to declare their animals and children when registering and when confronted for payment they claim their animals and children used nothing. Reservations, most people fail to read the cancelation policy, and when they cancel they don't want to pay the penalty they agreed to when making the reservations. Wow! Great hacks. I consider myself a seasoned traveler but you gave me some great ideas - my favorite is the toothbrush stand :)
Awesome to hear, Bobette! I got pretty excited about the toothbrush stand too!
My fav is the car keys attached to the charger
Live this, especially the bag over the remote. That’s always something I’m reluctant to touch in a hotel
Great hacks i take a large enough zip lock bag and place the remote control in it and use also I use the hotel shampoo as hand soap
Also sanitise the phone, door handles, tap handles hair dryer , just do Everything !
Some hotels mount their TV's on the wall where it's almost impossible to plug in your periphials lol
Sometimes it can help if you have an Angled HDMI adapter ;) this will make it easier when you plug the HDMI at the back of some TVs
You brought up some points I’d not heard of. Now to remember them! 😊. Thank you!
This was information gold, thank you!!
I always travel with an extension cord. It came in handy for my husbands cpap machine.

So right about the wall safe. There was a hotel near Orlando where they were taking the safes right out of the wall while people where in the parks

Much more commonly done in Europe. I’ve often taken bread and cheese for lunch.
