You have the side stand down. There is a cut out swith conected to it. If you put the bike in gear with the stand down the engine with stop automaticly. Its there to prevent you riding off with it down.

Great vid, thanks so much. Bike is looking really great. My clutch is starting to slip a little when under load... so I will need to check it all out. What torque settings did you use for clutch plate and case? Also was the case gasket you used THREEBOND paste or an actual gasket?

FYI if the bike has been sitting a long time you don't need to disassemble a stuck clutch to free it - just park it with the front wheel pressing(hard) against a solid wall, put both brakes on, pull in the clutch, give a whiff of gas and bang it into gear (keep the clutch pulled!). After a few bumps like that she comes right - it can happen to any bike left sitting too long.

Bro i know its been a year since you posted this and i wasnt really trusting him to have the right answers But my problem is im loosing clutch. I have to pull in the lever all the way now everytime im going to take off or else it will stall it. Is it the cable or clutch plates problem? I havent started working on it but i will do it this weekend just pre researching stuff first. Ive done only 20km on it so im guessing itll be the cable since thats the only ive mess around a couple of years ago and right now i dont really wanna open up the clutch case since im not really that experience with this kind of stuff. What are the tell tale signs if its the clutch plates?

@@krayzieegg7294 do you mean the clutch isn't fully disengaging? Then yes, you probably need to adjust the clutch cable or lever. In a hydraulic clutch system (like on these ducatis) you can use the adjuster on the clutch lever to reduce clutch drag. Also, check your clutch lever fluid reservoir is at the correct level. If that doesn't help, it might be air in the clutch hydraulic line and you will need to bleed out the line same as you would a brake line.

Sounds impossible to hold both brakes while doing all that, but putting the wheel against the wall solves that.
Really though, this is the exact kind of trick I'm looking for to avoid pulling the side cover. Mine is all gooped on with silicone.
He doesn't even confirm that it worked in the video.
Your method sounds very taxing on the transmission though... Just slamming it into gear like that. Just having it happen at idle is enough to curdle the blood. I'm going to look around & see if this procedure is mentioned anywhere else before trying it, but it sounds slightly promising. Your comment has 4 thumbs up, so it must be correct 😂

I'm having some similar issues with my 796. Mine sat for a while, and I'm having to do the fixes for all of that. The oil was horrible first off, which is all gone. The clutch plates were pretty corroded, though not horrible. But those are now switched out (just waiting for the liquid gasket to torque down the cover). Finally, I'm having bleeding issues. Which sucks, because I've never had a hydraulic clutch and know nothing about it. I think the master cylinder is fine. But the lines look burnt/corroded. So replacing that anyways. But bleeding the clutch was just not happening, and I think it's at the slave cylinder too. When I pumped hard more old brake fluid came out, which tells me there's definitely some sort of blockage in there. So upgrading the slave cylinder anyways. Could just see if I can take it apart and clean it out, but I heard it's a mod that smooths out the shifting so probably a mod I'd do in the future anyways. Who knows, but it looks better anyways haha. Just gotta wait for parts to come in and hope the combination of the line + slave cylinder does the trick. The joys of buying a vehicle that's sat for a bit 😂

Check your kickstand. If kickstand is down it will stall when you put bike into gear! (safety feature)

In a future video you mentioned the problem was a cheaper fix, was it greasing the shaft?

The slave cylinder had some gunk in it from sitting so long and it wasn’t able to get a full stroke. I swap the cylinder but I really didn’t need too. Just had to get the original one and put on the vice and force the stroke gently with the vice and the gunk cleared.

bike will always turns engine off if you have the stand open and you put a gear in.
