I wanted to swap b58 into my E36 but because of the ECUs are new and not much knowledge out there, I decided to go with M54B30 turbo. Good luck with your project, subscribed to see next episodes :)
That’s really cool Jake. I hope to attain your level of knowledge on bmws at some point. I’ve done a m54b30 swap on my 318ti e36. But still have so much to learn. Especially with the newer vehicles.
Sounds like the start of a love story. Man and his machine. A very fast machine to be. One correction. You “are a competitive racer” not was. I can’t wait to see and watch this transformation
Looking forward to seeing this at the track. Any thoughts on an electric hydraulic pump (the Volvo one is pretty easy to come by, there's a Porsche one too)?
Absolutely. But I love the steering in this car, it’s not just a brand new e46 m3 system with the cooler as well as a new pump. I also shimmed the pump bypass to depower the pump so it runs cool and has a customized feel. But I’m open to electric
Short answer, I think it’s fun to shift on track, it’s like dancing. Some local tracks im shifting 13 times per lap, so it’s the challenge. Long answer, gain 20-30whp and 100lbs lighter is preferable to me. Also I can probably downshift faster than a zf8. And more to go wrong on the track with more moving parts. So yeah thanks for asking
@@Hole_Motorsports they work well on the new m3 and if you just want to shift that’s a good reason but no one can shift faster than the 8hp and even if you can get close you still loose all your boost every time you take your foot off the throttle also at 500-700hp you are more likely to have a clutch failure than a problem with a 8hp
@@M-PASTAthat’s totally true. I was disappointed when then stopped using the DCT (50ms shift times) and started using the 8hp (200ms) but I get it now that the M cars have awd and so much power. When the m240iR came out I wanted to build an N52 hp8 racer but my team said no. We thought the downshifts were vague and unintentional. Myself and all racers have all missed shifts so let’s hope that doesn’t happen either. But reliability / simplicity / thermal stability and ease of this swap. Manual is the clear winner to me. And lastly, watch some of my Palmer / NHMS laps, you will see some hot boi speed shifting. I wish I could time it. Maybe I can with TH-cam studio.
I’ve been waiting for someone to do some retrofit swaps with the B58. Excited to see this done.
Great video! Looking forward to following this. Jake is going TURBO!!!!🤯.😎🤙
🤣 that’s what i been saying hahahahaua i think he got the bug after he took my 335is for a rip

I have mine e36 swapped with b58 and 8hp
Just subscribed. I have a rhd e36 wagon begging for a b58..
If you’re going turbo why not go with the 8hp automatic so you don’t lose boost every time you shift

M54 swap it with a zf 5 speed and m50 manifold with zhp cams
