- At 2000 pounds and 600 horsepower, its Manofied power-to-weight ratio rivals supercars. In this episode, Nicole discovers two distinctive BMW 2002s built by Mano, the man who likely started the trend of hot-rodding the sporty executive coupe in the 1980s. His Agave Green 1974 BMW 2002 powered by a built S52 six-cylinder engine and oil-less turbo is strikingly similar with its widebody and signature yellow stripe, yet precisely different from its wonder twin, a turbo-charged "roundie" 1972 2002 finished in Olive Green, powered by a four-cylinder M44. Nicole takes Mano for a spirited drive up Angeles Crest Highway and determines the unmistakable... that one of these Manofied Cars is her new favorite.
MORE ABOUT MANO:
Of Armenian descent, Mano Agulian now resides in California with his family after immigrating from war-torn Lebanon as a teenager. A full-time pastor, Mano is passionate about sharing his Christian faith and a good meal with friends and family. Manofied Cars, a play on the word "modified", is Mano's vision of the ultimate BMW 2002: an affordable, re-creatable, hot-rodded Turbo-tribute.

Which of these BMW 2002s is your pick? The dark green Agave 1974 6-cylinder capable of 600 horsepower?! Or the light green Olive 1972 "roundie" with is rowdy, visceral 4-cylinder? They were surprisingly different! But you know my favorite! Please comment, like, subscribe and share with friends! ❤
The 6-cylinder sounds amazing with its turbo. Thank you for finding these jewels.
72 Olive green is beautiful 💚
Enthusiastic, Exciting Touring Auto 🤔..A Driver ! 😉👍
The dark green hands down 😎
You totally wore those pants to match them, didn't you?
Hi Nicole . the Roundie every day , Beautiful . Say Hard to see kind Gentlemen's expressions ;) . Good on Pastor 2 .
Thank you, Nicole!!!!! This is what an automotive enthusiast show is supposed to be- respectful, actually appreciating a car for what it is and enjoying it. Thank you!!!!!!!
Thank you for watching. We appreciate the comment!!
I was just thinking last night we need another Nicole episode.
Bam, there it is and wow, what a ride.
☝️
Thanks for your patience...we're glad you enjoyed watching!!
🎉🎉🎉
I was just thinkin the same, a whole month without Nicole is just too long
I would love to see you wear some real overalls ... meaning the first overalls to make them popular ... Ben Davis overalls! Mana should do a Mazda double block engine if he wants to stand away from the stock purists! I love this channel and all the amazing episodes that are SUPER DUPER ORGANIZED on the home page!
I've had three of them back in the 80s. Even a 2002 touring. That one would be worth a fortune today.
Thank you for sharing!!
Amazing car!
This video needed the disclaimer 'No transmissions or clutch discs were harmed in this production'' You could tell when Nicole started getting into the 2nd car enough to heel toe shift it. We needed to hear more of the sound of that six-cylinder engine and the turbo. Music to our ears I agree with Mano when he said he's a fan of torque. Horsepower makes a car fast, but torque makes it quick. When Nicole says your car is her favorite that she's driven, that says a lot Kudos to you Mano. I envy the person who ends up with the 1974 2002. Another great production from NJD!
Thank you for the nice comment!! We're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
Thank you @dogatemypopcorn
One of the first cars I’ve ever seen with a $100,000 price tag that made me say: “worth it.” To be fair, I don’t have $100k to spend on a car, and likely never will. But if I did, this would be at the top of the list.
Love the comment...thank you!!
Yeah, actually seems a reasonable price for this beauty.
I love the modified BMW's and I love Nicole with her natural unmodified persona ❤
Thank you...we're so glad you enjoyed watching!!!
I drove a 70' 2002 and a 74' tii, I miss them so much. Some day I will return to them. They are fantastic cars.
Thanks for the video!
...600hp and "yeah, it's got drums in the back" --I love it!!!
Thank you for watching!!!
Thanks!
Thank you for your support!! We appreciate it!!
I was a kid in Germany when those came out. They were a blast on the autobahn.
Thank you for sharing!
As the owner of a street/track ‘73 and follower of Manofied I always have a soft spot for roundies. Thank you for making this episode!! Manofied, Son of Cobra, Koogle!
Thank you...we appreciate you watching!!!
💯
Oh, oh, oh!.... I was just thrown back to when I got stationed in Germany and bought a 1969 BMW 1600. While certainly no where near the level of Mano's beauties, I loved hurling that car in to the backroad corners. Now, thanks to this episode, I realize that the fantasies I had back then actually exist!
As always, thanks for taking us along for the ride Nicole! Mano - thank you for sharing your incredible cars with us.
Thank you so much for the nice comment!! We appreciate you!!!
BMW, 1602, 85 HP was my first car 1982. During my appentice time as a car mechanic. I loved it.❤ It was a nice but also a tough time with less money.
Nice!! Thanks for sharing!!
Awesome episode Nicole, as Always 💎🌟 Mano is King for building these and not giving a rats behind about people nagging at him for "ruining" the cars👑
We're so glad you enjoyed watching!! Thank you for the comment!!
Wow - this looks and sounds like a fun cars to drive! Thank you for sharing the experience and the sound. I live the Agave 74 with the 6 in it.
Mano seems like a great guy who is lucky to make a living following his passions!
We're so glad you enjoyed watching...thank you for the comment!!
Nicole! My dream car growing up was a 2002, and you’ve found a guy who REALLY gets these babies!! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing!
SO - even though I love the grit and grind of the roundie - and love keeping a four-banger way up there in the revs - I’m with you on that gorgeous 600 HP smooth beast!
We're so glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching.
This is such a great car show! High quality, professional and this show really shows the personalities of all the great builds that should be talked about! Outstanding episode- as usual!!
Thank you so much...that means a lot for all of us here at Detour!!!
Great, I'm in love with the 2002s, especially the tii 😉. modifying them in this way does not bother me because owning a BMW means wanting to optimize its performance. Thank you for this video and others to come. Greetings from a Frenchman passionate about beautiful cars
Thank you for the comment!! We're glad you enjoyed watching!!
That is a hot rodder's dream. Whether you're into classic muscle (me), tuners, drift cars, or whatever... the goal is more but usable. Looks like Mano's super close to the bullseye with what he's doing. Thanks for sharing. Great job! (as usual) 👍
Thank you for the comment...we appreciate you watching!!
You have this knack to find these reversioner's that craft unique motor experiences that we all want to step outside our door and get in and drive. Great show, Thanks!
We appreciate you watching, it's always great to hear from our viewers!
The sound of the engine is so brutal. I like it.
Wow! by price point, it's a better deal than a new C8. Great video. Lots of fun to watch.
We're glad you enjoyed watching it!!
@@NicoleJohnsonsDetour Keep making these fun videos. Ya'll are my favorite TH-cam Channel.
What a fantastic episode, one more time !
Thank you so much Nicole.
The 2 cars are amazing, they are all I love, an iconic model perfectly re-engineered / remastered, thank you Mano. I cannot choose between the look of the old one and the 6 cylinder sound of the second one.
I am looking forward to see the orange one in a new video.
Thank you...we're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
I owned a 1976 2002 in light blue. Stock motor but with webers and a tuned exhaust. I sold it to a friend and bought my first Porsche, a Turbo 944. I still miss that BMW. Thanks for taking me back in time.
I had the exact same car. Never should have sold it.
Thank you for sharing with us...we're glad you enjoyed watching!!
Heel and toe girl, heel and toe, hell yeah! LOVE, LOVE the channel! Subscribed. 2002 is one of my all time favorites.🥰
Awesome! Thank you!
Out of all the cool rides you've shown us, for you to have labeled this one "my favorite" speaks volumes, Nicole 🤙 thank you for yet again another(!) outstanding episode... 🤓😎🏁
Our pleasure!!! We're so glad you enjoyed watching this episode!!
Nicole, so good to watch an new video from your collection. I forwarded the link to my son in law who is a real BMW freak and I am anxious to get his comments. Mine: just stunning!
We appreciate that!! So glad you enjoyed watching!! Hope your son-in-law enjoys it too!!
🌡❤🔥🏁🏆. These BMWs take me back to my pre-adolescence, I love them. Thank you to make me dream!
You're welcome...glad you enjoyed watching!!
Great episode! Just the way I like my cars- raw and elemental and just an extension of your body. I remember watching 2002s blast around Riverside back in the day. Hats off to Mano for getting it so right.
We're glad you enjoyed watching!! Awesome to hear about your Riverside memories!
Now this was a joy, very nice work on these cars, the green beast is capable, lovevthecsound of it. Nicole you are just great, real appreciation for this mechanical art of engineering❤
Thank you for watching...we're glad you enjoyed it!!
Amazing content, amazing workmanship, and a lovely car, worth every penny. Loving the landscapes too. Maybe consider featuring some of the beautiful views for us UK viewers. There are presenters, and there are presenters who have a passion and know their stuff. Nicole ticks all the boxes, and the passion shines through in the videos, making them so much more watchable. Please keep it coming!
Thank you so much for the nice comment...we're glad you enjoyed watching!!
Hey Nicole every episode is a pleasure to watch this is my favourite channel funny ,respectful, interesting and very much mind blowing with all the interesting cars and their owners. From Canada here and I will have to get some merch Thankyou
Thanks for the awesome comment!!! We appreciate you!
Amazing. The 2002 BMW is absolutely a classic. These are awesome cars.
Couldn't agree more! Thank you for watching!!
Love that green car. Another well-done video, but honestly more than 50% of the fun is watching Nicole just enjoy it so much--absolutely delightful.
Thank you...we're glad you enjoyed watching!!
💯
Hi Nicole, I’d pick the 74’ because I was born in 74. Thanks for doing what you do. I can’t drive, I’ve never had a license. It would be epic to be a passenger in any car you’d drive. Your content is so fun, super informative and very educational. Thanks again. Have a happy and safe thanksgiving.
Thanks for the kind words...we appreciate you watching and wish you a great Thanksgiving too!!
So glad this was suggested. Killer episode, great presentation from the host and builder. ❤
Thank you...we appreciate you watching!!
🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@Manofiedcars I never caught the price of what a turbo 4cyl example would cost. What’s the rough base cost of one?
100k for the turbo 6 cylinder I feel is a very fair price!
What an amazing girl. Can drive and knows her stuff brilliant. My first car back in 1985. BMW 1602 Lux. In white. Really enjoyed watching this. Wish I was in America. Brilliant guy. Great engineer.❤❤
Thank you...we're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
My favorite BMW of all time getting a new lease on life. Outstanding review and an incredible builder, thanks to both of you 🎉
Thank you for the comment...we appreciate you watching!!
Ahhh Yessss! 02's baby. Now you're hooked Nicole. I had a 70 Roundie and a 74 Tii. Best cars. I highly regret selling both. Thanks for a spectacular episode!
Thanks for watching! We're glad you enjoyed it!
Has to be the 74. Always liked the 2002 but never really loved it until seeing this Manofied beauty. Great episode Nicole, please keep them coming.
Thanks for watching!
Another greate video with very cool cars! Love it, Nicole ❤ Keep them coming
Thank you...we appreciate you watching!!
Love the passion behind these builds, and Nicole’s passion as well
Thank you...we appreciate that you enjoyed watching!!
🙏🏼🙏🏼
“Someone is driving your car and appreciating it, it doesn’t get better than that” words of a true enthusiast. Love the build!
Thank you for watching...we appreciate your comment!!
phenominal to have a pastor with those interests as he will really inspire the youth and get them focussed. Really nice guy and you both work so well together. In the 80's my friend arrived down to my house with his 2002 TII and had just resprayed it bright racing car yellow ...he had put two webber twin choke carbs in it and a small steering wheel...he let me drive and i was instantly in love.... blank spot in acceleration due to incorrect carb jetting but that just made it all the more fun and felt like a massive turbo kicking in. My favorite classic car of all time. great vid tks.
We're glad you enjoyed watching! Thanks for sharing your story with us...love it!!
Having such an open greenhouse is what I always liked about these. Sweet cars!
We're glad you like the cars!! Thank you for watching!!
Fantastic episode yet again Nicole! Fun to see the snipet in the advertisement of you and Frank wrenching on the SC together. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to bringing us your very best.
Thank you...we appreciate your kind words!!
I haven't commented in a while (I do watch), but I had to comment here. Always wanted to get a 2002, but needing a practical car, jobs, and kids all prevented me from ever getting one. Even a stock garden variety example would scratch the itch.
I love the channel, and I love the mad cars you pick to review. Keep it up and keep inspiring us aging dads to maybe fulfill a dream.
Thank you so much!! We appreciate your comment!!
Your best video yet for me. I've never been in a BMW, never fancied one.... until I saw these special cars...my oh my !!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for watching...we're glad you enjoyed it!!
@@NicoleJohnsonsDetour Thanks for showing such lovingly made cars, these literally are art on wheels. 🏎️🏎️🏎️
Hey Mano, good to see you still holding down the 2002 fort! Sometimes I miss our old shop hijinks. Not often, but sometimes. Give Ed my best! Mahalo, Jeremy
You have showcased some awesome cars,so saying this one is your favorite is quite a statement...
Cheers..
Thank you for watching...we appreciate the comment!!
And a great compliment for the builder
Agreed! We’re grateful!
Great episode Nicole. Thanks for sharing the joy. 😊

I would use #2 for work days, #1 for Friday - Sunday. Great video, Nicole, as always.

@@NicoleJohnsonsDetour Have a Happy and safe Thanksgiving, thank you for the great videos, Nicole!!
Great car and really excellent work by Manofied. Just so you know, we gearheads did notice the color of your outfit that matched up perfectly with the green car. Great choice. Always enjoy every new episode. Keep up the great work.
Haha...great catch!! We're glad you enjoyed watching!!
I'm a Ford Fiesta ST guy, but I love all of these BMW's, amazing looking cars. The Fiesta Flash 🤙
Glad you like them!! We appreciate you watching!!
Fun fact, I blew up my old M3's turbo'd-S52 after a punctured oil pan incident. That was truly an oil-less BMW- if only for a few hours. Rest in Peace, my dear gorgeous Alpine White E36 coupe (1999-2012) 😢
Thanks for watching and sharing your story!
Wow!!
Juste à écouter les paroles du Pasteur sur la technologie qu'ils ont intégré à cette bmw qui d'origine est déjà fabuleuse.... Et Nicole de dire :"this is the best...."
Je rêve de pouvoir en posséder une un jour..!
Bravo et merci pour cette belle émission.. 😢❤
Thank you so much for watching..we're glad you enjoyed it!!
I LOVE the "roundie's" lights...but that '74 !! Hell YEAH !!!
Great up-load as usual. Brings back beautiful memories. Reminds me of the 2002Tii (74). I used to have in the 80's. Awesome machine. Again, well done....young lady.
Thank you...we're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
3 1/3 lbs per hp is insane and I'm sure you didn't wring all 600 out of it when you were driving on that twisty road. My car (the Wide MGB) had 5.3 lbs per hp and it is incredibily fast. I would love to drive his car someplace where you could let it loose. As usual, you did an incredible job finding the true auto enthusiast and showcasing what they do. Bravo to Mano and his work.
I remember your beautiful car. One of a kind.
Thank you Jim!! Glad you approve!!
@@mitwenigenhandgriffenalles16 Thanks
Best episode yet!!! Gearjammin some beast 2002's. Love it
Thank you...we're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
I love that 74’ too Nicole. Wow, what a car. My dad bought a new BMW Bavaria in 74’. That was my first intro to the BMW 6 cylinder engines. Was really strong for its time, and had a 4 speed, fun car. Putting an E-36 into a 2002 is just great!. The lil brother is a very cool car too. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed this.
Thank you for sharing with us!! We appreciate you watching this episode and glad you enjoyed it!!
Ahhh....I had a 1974 BMW 2002 Tii back in the day...was a great car!!!

The drone shots while passing over the Angeles Crest Highway bridges... great stuff. Awesome builds featured here, he's doing the Lord's work building these. 😅
Thank you for watching...we're so glad you enjoyed it!!
Love the colour ❤ BMWs rock especially green ones ❤
Nicole, you keep knocking it out of the park. Huge two-thousand-two fan but none of them stack up. I loved seeing both of them. Thanks
Thanks for the comment! We really appreciate you watching!
I owned a 74 2002 many years ago, but I couldn't keep it. I love these cars and would really enjoy owning one.
Out of all the cars & trucks that you have driven this is my favorite and I THINK MANO IS A GENIUS and I truly wish that I could own one of these cars...problem is I was hit by an uninsured motorist and broke both legs and still have a problem with one leg where I have been unable to work in a few years so I doubt I will ever have the chance but it's still cool seeing these work of arts.
We're so glad you enjoyed watching!! Thank you for sharing your story with us!!
Fantastic bring old memories back well done 👍👍✅ the best.
We're so glad you enjoyed watching...thank you!!
In the late '70's to early '80's I had a '71 base U.S. spec 2002. Up graded to factory rims and tires from a 320i. I couldn't count the number of times I drove from L.A. to Mammoth and back, including snow that measured in feet and vision was oh sh*t. So much to say about the great vision out (see above), driving position, wonderful chassis and steering, sweet little trouble free 4 cylinder. Even "space utilization". An absolutely brilliant piece of automotive engineering. And all this from the "base model"!
Thanks for sharing with us!
Another great american success story ! Hard work pays off.
Very nice cars.. seems like a great deal.. thanks for sharing

Nicole you using the heel toe technique says it all. Impressive. These 2002 cars are what made my is300 possible.
Thank you...glad you enjoyed watching!!
It's the 74' 6-cylinder for me. Those looks, that sound, I wouldn't even bother with the turbo. A naturally aspirated version would sound even better 👌
Thank you Nicole et al 👍
Thanks for the comment!! We appreciate you watching!!
Loved this episode, had half a dozen tii's in the 80's. Thank you so much... awesome!!

this video is excellent! I'm a BMW lover I had a few for the last 20 years nothing extraordinary just simple stuck 🚗 I whis I can fix at least one the way I would love to, but watching you driving that '74 BMW 2000 was awesome I felt like I was riding inside that beauty next to you guys! Is kind of sad because the Time is against me I'm 62 yrs old so is more difficult for me to that kind of work on cars, because i have diabetes, slowing me big time because the pain in my feet from Neuropathy disease 😢 but I enjoy what I can do and capable of doing on my cars, it's alright! 😊.....a least dream is free.

I built a 71 round light 2-1/2 decades ago with a close friend, lowered on steel fender flares, center exhaust Ansa tip, Recaro’s, Dodge Viper yellow, BBS wheels. For anyone building one the repair panel for the rear wheel arch on a MK.1 Rabbit fits beautifully with a bit of cutting for a gorgeous flare…mine turned out amazing took two of us ten months…before the internet….lol…love the cars in the video
