did my whole first playthrough with a greatsword.
I str8 beat so many DS3 bosses without dying even once using a greatsword. Elden Ring I used Curved Swords. I miss the great combos that Greatswords have, being able to lunge & stab, swing and smash gives great flexibility but I cannot deny the power of the CAW CAW!! JUMP ATTACK!

agreed, His too greedy, fighting with the slave knight Gael needs more patience it took me 10 minutes to beat that boss.
@@augustoventosa1949 I don't think Gael is the hardest. His fight is so engaging you don't feel the passage of time. sister friede however, punishes any greed aggressively.

You can jump out of the elevator halfway and there's an area to explore with a fire demon mini boss.... I think the area has a lot of stuff for upgrades... Definitely worth doing

Elden Ring is the easiest. Ds3 isn't bad, you just need to calm down and separate enemies instead of mindlessly walking into a crowd of them

Had more trouble with DS3 than Elden Ring & DS1, nothing compares to the nightmare that is DS2 though, traversing that map had me losing my mind.

At the blacksmith you can reallocate your estus and get ride of the blue charges which are for magic, it'll give you more health charges
he also uses the uchigatana's weapon art, which does drain FP, so he probably has a few ashen flasks for that
You kick when you press to move forward and attack at the same time. It takes some getting used to moving first or attacking stationary. The kick is for when an enemy holds up a shield, it throws them into an animation that can get you a crit. If they look big or heavy, it probably wont work though

I started playing this game recently and spent almost 3 hours straight playing the Abyss Watchers until I killed them. Keep trying and thank you for making these videos!
The weapons and drip you get afterward though🎉
I got stuck on the dancer for days, then changed to a heavy great shield that staggered his attacks, it's a game that needs the right equipment at the right place sometimes

BTW go back to the beginning of the undead settlement when you reach the gate that two dogs come out of go the opposite way until you go through the Archway then talk to one of the corpses once they disappear go back to firelink and look around for them and talk to them the service he offers is related to an Ending and also to get more of it do you have to die multiple times
A couple more tips that you would miss go back to the elevator walk on the pressure plate to send it down the moment you step on it jump off and wait for the second one and go all the way up talk to the NPC on top of the tower then if you go back to the location where you would get hit by arrows you no longer get targeted pick up every item you see as one of them does power up your flask
Go back to the Castle and that room where the dogs and exploding barrels were and pick up the item on the Anvil it increases how many flasks you have unlike elden ring go back to firelink I'm guessing you've talked to the Buff man in firelink he can increase how many you have to power it up you have to go to a bonfire and click burn Undead shards or bones
Also after you talk to the NPC at the top of the tower when you ride the elevator down look for a ledge to drop on and just do everything from there

Kicking is when you press foward and attack at the same time, after you let go of the controll stick for a sec. it is usefull to break the stance of blocking enemys with shields and such.

You need Bone Shards to upgrade the healing each flask use does. Other than that, hope ya like this game! Out of all the games you've tried this one was the hardest for me. (Excluding Lies of P, because I haven't played that yet.)
Edit: oh also! The kick happens when you press forward and attack at the same time. So just make sure you're not pressing both when you're fighting.

@@aaronjohnson9529 when you're fighting you should either be holding forward and then press attack, or press attack while not moving. Moving forward and attacking at the exact same time will cause the kick.
I kinda wish there was an option to turn it off or something, because some people go through the game entirely without using it.
Everyone said lies of p was mega hard. Tbh I found it easier than any souls game. However 1 or 2 bosses nearly made me rage quit the game. It has one flaw though and that's the throwables being op against bosses
I play with my palm wrist and chest because I'm paralyzed and ds3 is my favorite, ds1 and 2 are harder. If you want to add me I'll play through it with you

That's DS in the purest form: struggling, constantly on the verge of giving up, but then euphoric and rewarded for persistence and getting good.
DS3 and DS1 are the best imo
only because ds2 was so dang forced, miyazaki originally didnt want to make a dark souls 2
Stop attacking until you run out of stamina, you need to leave enough to be able to dodge away. Stop pressing forward while attacking, that's why you keep kicking the air for no reason. Look for some undead bone shards to upgrade how much health is regained with each estus flask. There is 1 in Undead Settlement, 1 in Farron Keep, 1 in Cathedral of the Deep, burn them at Firelink Shrine bonfire. If you want the game to be easier then get rid of the Uchi and use a 100% physical shield and a straight sword or spear. If you think boss runbacks in this game are bad then don't bother playing Dark Souls 2.
the trick for phase 2 was baiting him into doing the 3 part combo of slash, slash, then when he leaps and stabs at the ground, which also works in elden ring against black knives and bloodhound knights
Shame that you’ll miss out on some great DS3 moments by not playing DS1 first but I’m still hyped as hell to see how badly this goes
It works both ways IMO. I also played 3 before one but DS3 has so many references to Dark Souls 1 that I still often went like "Ahh I remember this" or "Ahh so that's how it was like at first".

Theres also no shame if you just want to look up locations for estus upgrade materials. you'll need them
The Abyss watchers are pretty straight forward if you bait out the back stab!!
gonna just say something you can be thankfull for, in the Firelink shrine, there are stairs on ther right of the entrance where you find a tower, from the entrance perspective, is there a tree where you can glitch jump into the cealing, there you can find another estus shard, good luck, and the boss fights will only become better (most of them) after Abyss Watchers

You can also use the grass crest shield as it has built in stamina recovery i also figured out the one handed attacks are faster but do less damage then two handed which do more damage but are slower
After putting in hundreds of hours into DS1, DS2 & Bloodborne. I found DS3 pretty easy, except for bosses like Nameless King and Dankeater Midir. I always had to summon players to help me with those guys. I haven't played Elden Ring yet though.

You're kicking because you press forward and R1 at the same time. Kick is actually pretty useful against shielded enemies because it depletes way more of their poise than a normal hit would. Most of the time you can easily get in a critical hit after a kick on a shield.
You can do this! I struggled on the abyss watchers myself and I'm now on journey 3.

Have you considered maybe trying the exile greatsword? It’s not as fast, sure, but you seem to like tanking damage so a greatsword would give you some hyper armor for your attacks. It also has a cool WA and sometimes all you need is a vibe change. Love your content.

Good lord that brings back memories, that sword was pure pvp nightmare with upwards of 1300+ dmg on a R1+WA. PvE melts just as fast it's such a crazy STR weapon.

Yeah, you can have it at +3 by this stage.
You can use bone shards to upgrade the flasks the estus shards to increase the amount of flasks other than that find and equip rings for buffs , you can also get boss weapons which requires an item to give to the guy on throne with no legs and trade in boss souls for it. If you find souls which are not boss souls use them for either upgrading your weapon or buying things or level up. Dark spirits only spawn in if you have an ember equiped which gets restored after killing the bosses or buying and using. It can also show summon signs aid you in bosses
I love the Abyss Watchers fight, it’s so cool. But yeah you definitely need to explore every area, you missed a big fight at the top of the elevator in the previous area.
7:50 love how you ignore all of crucifixion woods and skip the sage and instead go straight for the abyss watchers. if you thought you were underleveled before, wait until after that fight

Honestly I gotta say without TH-cam or google, elden is way harder hands down, but I think most of the boss fights are around the same difficulty, I personally just favor dark souls because of its tight spaces and layered aesthetic. Could just be my nostalgia though cause it was my first souls game

Another crazy thing about this game is the 2 huge secret areas. You get to one by knocking down a bridge and then climbing down it (so unbelievably easy to miss) and then to get to the other, you have to use a specific emote and wait a certain amount of time. It’s crazy

i finally beat ds3 earlier this morning and what Ive learned is that honestly...... it only was a hard game when I tried to be too ballsy and was overconfident. I did a dex build/sellswords and (was my first time playing) I leveled up and honestly thought I was untouchable , until I met the right enemy. I died so many times to Champion Gundyr/the nameless king/ The twin princes/ and Lord of cinder. But, I only died to them because I didnt take my time and study their attacks. What an excellent game it was, on to elden ring now!
also, the kick imput is walk forwards and light attack, what it does is basically breaks the guard of enemies with shields

It's always part of the fun about DS games is seeing how other people do vs the various bosses.
For me personally this boss was a first try. I don't know if I was over leveled or not but I managed to beat him first attempt being extremely patient.

you can take advantage of animation immunity whenever you open a door or a chest. case in point: you can open the door behind that rider without taking damage then light the bonfire first. then cheese him with a bow or any throwable item.

I can definitely see the Bloodborne levels of aggression in your play style. Also, the kick is when you tap forward and attack at the same time; you probably worked that out already though.

The difficulty is what makes the game so rewarding. idk how many times I stood up and cheered after killing a boss who's been beating me for hours.

Dark pyromancer build is pretty dope, I literally had a win streak of 12 in 1v1's. Rocked the onyx blade to complement the build.
In case you haven't figured it out just yet, the kick happens when you press R1 and forward on the directional stick at the same time. I think it can be remapped in the settings, but it's been a while, i can't remember..
If you push the left stick forward and light attack at the same time you will start a kick. Start moving first, then attack. Also the rule of thumb for bosses is dodge/block, attack 1-2 time's, and dodge/block (repeat till boss dies). If you do more than two attacks you will have a 50% or higher chance of dark souls punishing you for greed. (depends on boss attack frequency)
Bonus note: You should have 10 flasks at +3 by now. A little more exploration will do you good.
(Past this note are the Shard/Bone area's before the Abyss Watchers, but not specifically where in them.)

2.Undead Settlement (Shard+Bone)
3.Road of Sacrifices (Shard)
4.Farron Keep (Shard+Bone)
5.Cathedral of the Deep (Shard+Bone)

Dark souls 3 was my first souls game I ever played... It was a nightmare trying to play through it but also one of the best games I've experienced once all was said and done
Katanas are just beginning of the game weapons. You need the Flamberge, the Wolf Sword, or an Ax as a mid-game weapon. Level up that stamina too. That is what allows you to use heavier armor as well.

I also had a massively difficult time with DS3. The speed, ferocity, movesets and HOLY F***ING DAMAGE of the games enemies and bosses just break my brain for some reason. Didn't have a ton of trouble with Elden Ring, but there are so many more tools to work with in ER.
Nice job taking that step back to explore. Abyss watchers is a hard boss.
