Redshift Shockstop Seatpost into a D shaped frame - is it possible?

  • Wendy wants the comfort of a Redshift Shockstop seat post. The snag is that the Redshift seat post is round and the Liv Devote seat post is the D shaped 'D fuse' type, as featured in many Giant frames, so appears incompatible. We take advantage of needing to check with Giant in Lincoln to make an 85 mile round trip.

    Can you post pictures of the dfuse adaptor that allowed you to insert a shock seatpost?

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, Kevin. This is a link to the D Fuse adaptor shim Redshift supply. redshiftsports.com/products/seatpost-shim. As you will know, your D shaped seat-post fits into a round seat stay. This shim reduces the diameter and allows you to fit the Shockstop seat-post into your existing seat stay, using the existing D Fuse clamp. If you need any further advice with this, you will find Redshift extremely helpful.

      @@kevinedward-jt2vs On Wendy’s bike only the seat post is D shaped. The tube it fits into is round. That shim just allows for the difference in diameter. If your setup differs it would be best to drop Redshift a note.

    One final point (can’t stop me now 😏) that ties in a few issues that I learned along the way watching your videos and hands on…is that when I moved from the heavy mountain bike with few gears to the Ribble with battery, I found I lent on the battery more than I needed-which now I think about it, was infact down to not using the gears more efficiently.
    I found that as the bike was much better than any I’d ridden before, the effort needed to peddle it was less, so when it got hard I just put the battery on while on the wrong front cog. It was only when I started using all the gears at the low end that I found I didn’t need the battery half as much….which brings me to your video on specifications highlighting the longevity of the battery; I can get 3 rides on one circuit I often do before I fully charge it again, which will help the life of the bike. 👍🏻

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you haven’t already done so, you can adjust the power setting from the app. I did so in the green power mode and gained about 10 miles more range without any noticeable difference in assist. Correct use of the gears will also extend the life of your chain etc.

    Smashing video Roy, as per and the standard is more than perfect. When I got my Ribble GRL Al e in 2021 I installed the Redshift seatpost and stem and have never looked back. I had a carbon frame bike prior to getting it which absorbed a lot more shock than the Ribble aluminium frame so it certainly justified the expense, also I have gone onto tubeless tyres which softens the ride a lot at around 55 psi. I’ve had an Apple AirTag for the past year and is still running on the original battery, works well, no probs. Looking forward to more of “Wandering Wendy”🤣🤣ride on👍😊

      Installed them both on a Ribble Endurance ALe, Ribble Endurance Ti and Kona Sutra tourer. If found though that the front stem suspesion was not really needed as a light grip on the handlebars was all you need, so removed it from all bikes. The rear suspesion is great as allows you to stay seated .

    You and Wendy were discussing how to properly use the gears. The city I ride around is relatively flat, no real hills to speak of and definitely no mountains. Even though I ride a tricycle, I got one with seven gears. On a couple of occasions I've had people ask me if I use the gears. Yes, on every ride even though there are no serious hills. The roadways have slight variations in elevation which often necessitate my shifting gears, especially in headwinds. After all a trike is hardly aerodynamic. I went through all that to make the point that gears can be beneficial whether or not a route is hilly.
    'Wandering with Wendy' is a great title! Wendy, you be sure to use that when you do your own ride video. 😊
    Do your respective spouses ever ride with you? Any chance you could persuade either or both of them to at least make a cameo appearance so we can meet them?
    I am envious that both of you can ride long distances in summer heat/humidity. I'm waiting for cooler weather before tackling longer rides. 😌 During these summer months I'm content to ride evenings for an hour or so; it's still hot but the UV index is much lower and there's less sunshine.

      Geraldine -- Hi. I'm another woman rider who rides alone. My wheels are three (a tricycle) so there aren't any other trike riders in my vicinity.
      I sure sympathize with you about some of the drivers I encounter. Thankfully though the vast majority of them are very respectful of me riding in the street.
      One almost 'problem' I do notice is the driver who believes they are helping when they overlook some of the rules of the road. Example: I'm signaling a turn; oncoming car with right of way stops, motioning me to go ahead and make my turn. A polite gesture, right? Until the car behind #1 comes around and smacks me as I turn! (Thankfully I notice that 2nd car and make sure I don't become roadkill.)
      Stay safe. 😊

    When I got the Ribble with the battery assist I did feel a bit of a fraud…but have thanked god for it many times as I do all my riding through the Peak District, and Winnats Pass would have poleaxed me without it. (The hills just appear continually)

      Commission from Ribble - I wish 😀 The only reward I need is the knowledge that I’ve helped someone to go places they wouldn’t have managed before. They are some amazing routes you are riding, especially as you only started last year. Just one word of warning though. While the Redshift seatpost will take out the bumps and vibrations, it won’t stop that ache in the sitbones. If you haven’t done so, it would be worth checking that your saddle is the correct width for you. If it’s the original one it may not be as I’ve never been comfortable on an OE seat. After that, it’s just a case of conditioning yourself to the seat over time.

      @@RideWithRoy Incidentally, the two points you raised in this latest video would indeed seem good ideas to cover. The gear issue from my experience meant everyone assuming everyone else knows what you do resulted in me knowing nothing about the shimano gear lever system integrated into the brakes. People obviously scoffing at my incompetence, but I had a bmx with 1 gear as a child and latterly a very average mountain bike I acquired off my father last year that had 6 gears on one cog and a clear indication on the handle bar as to which gear you were in. When the Ribble arrived I actually had to turn back to look up how to change the damn gears, and there was nothing in the documentation.
      Secondly the bike locking; I’ve as yet never had to leave the bike having never stopped at an establishment, but the further I go the more likely it will happen and I had started to think about it. I’m not a complete fool (hmm) and think common sense might prevail, but I’m not too arrogant to watch incase I’d overlooked something…and as far as which locks are best btw, I have no idea.

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, and thanks for the question. I plan only to look at locking technique as opposed to quality of locks. I think most locks can be defeated with an angle grinder while most people just keep their heads down and pass by. I don’t have specific bike insurance as I don’t leave my bikes unattended so rely on my home insurance extension. One type of insurance I’m looking into is the ‘get you out of trouble’ cover. While I don’t need it, I know many inexperienced cyclists are anxious about breaking down or even having a puncture. It’s a bit of a minefield looking into the various exceptions. The other insurance I feel is worth considering is third party liability. Imagine moving out into the path of an overtaking cyclist on a £10k bike and writing it off. Fortunately, membership of British Cycling or Cycling UK includes this cover.
